1812 Overture Tchaikovsky / Arr. Dr. Robert Childs Grimethorpe Colliery Band Conductor: Dr. Robert Childs Narrator: Craig Roberts Hamer Hall, Melbourne, Australia August 2015
when I was 15 16 years old playing 2nd euphonium for North Skelton Silver Band we played this in competitions at Sunderrland Empire. We knocked the dust out of the theater firing pyrotechnics. . 👌👍👍 great rendition.
In high school we did a marching routine to “1812” for a football game. The canon shots where done by a police officer, firing blanks into a 55 gallon drum that was tilted and had the top cover removed. We then played the piece for a concert. Used the drum and pistol which were slightly off stage for the canon shots.
I remember playing this in 1975, we used muzzle loaded pistols for the cannons. It was quite effective and the sound and smoke made for realism. It was the best of times, before trust was taken away from decent people.

Muddy audio, but you can still tell this is a FABULOUS brass band and that the acoustics in this hall are wonderful. Very, very enjoyable.
