Very cool to see the dear you fond at 20 min in. It really does show that this system can find a dog.

Yep, after 3 weeks on the run, she came to the customer the very next day in this same area.

Its a Fawn around here ( Texarkana ) that lost its spots about a month ago. I found a Buck losing its velvet a few days ago. Looked like a 4 point.
Also. I noticed my Mavic 3 ( regular ) early in the morning just after sunrise, if the rear sensors are facing the sun they go off but there is nothing there.

Yep, I thought I'd missed the spotted fawns around here.
Great point about the sun/glare...probably blinding the sensor.

An airtag on the dog would possibly have helped. But this is a pretty sparse area and people with cell phones need to be near by. Still it's a good idea to have some sort of tracker on all animal pets.

Be cool if we had something we could mount to the PSDK port and scan the area for the tag(not sure if an airtag has that range) to supplement the thermal. Could be real helpful when the canopy is super thick with is almost all of spring/summer until the leaves drop in the thicker wooded area.

@@STRThermal My Airtags can be picked up from about 50 feet in my house. They advertised a range of 30ft. You could fly really low and slow with an iPhone dangling from the bottom of the drone and pick one up. You'd want to be as close to the top of the treeline with the iPhone though.
I put Airtags on all my dogs. The battery lasts a year and its just a 2023 watch battery. It will at least give me some idea of where they are if they get lost in my neighborhood. It has a setting that notifies anyone around that the item is lost and gives them a phone number to call. Its $25 well spent in my book.

I think every dog should have one, but at a 30-50ft range, most wooded areas are gonna be out of range even if you're flying dangerously low. But in the odd chance a lost animal ends up outside someone's house, the airtag could provide the breadcrumbs needed to direct a more focused aerial thermal search. I'm sure the tech will continue to progress.

Seems like this thermal vision on a drone is every hunter’s friend! Lol
I take it you can search an area for deer with your thermal drone and hunt that area, correct ?

Depends on your state hunting and drone laws. In my state, Alabama, there are no drone specific laws. It is legal to scout from a motor vehicle. Also, per the law, as soon as you park the vehicle and shut the engine off, you technically could shoot a deer from that vehicle(from private land for instance, laws related to distance from public roads apply). So likewise the drone can be used to scout and the hunt can happen, technically, immediately upon landing. Private and public land enforcement can be quite different. Personally, I have not used it for my own scouting and get a lot of enjoyment out of helping other people, deer recovery, scouting/survey.

In NC, its illegal to use drones in any part of the hunt. You can use a thermal scope, but you can't use any motorized vehicle during any part of the hunt, even recovery. I don't see an ethical problem with using drones for recovery a deer after I shoot it, so I do that when I'm in an area where there isn't a lot of traffic.

Yep, I think the number of states that allow drones for scouting is very few. Alabama enforcement agencies have previous likened drone scouting to scouting from an ATV or truck or boat. Of course, that was before inexpensive thermal drones.

@@STRThermal Yeah, these drones only have 640x resolution. The military had 1080x resolution thermal 30 years. As the technology gets cheaper, it’s going to be trivial for guys to scout all the best deer and target them.
NC even outlawed fishing using a drone. I used to sit on the beach and cast my line out 300ft using my drone.
