- It didn’t take much to convince John Mayer to take a little vacation earlier this year. Always touring and connected, the renowned musician was itching for a break from it all. So we sent him to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and put him in his favorite vehicle: the Land Rover Defender 110.
The world has changed a lot since those meandering days we spent in the northern California redwoods. But our deep appreciation and respect for the wilderness has only increased. And Mayer’s adventure underscores something that’s as true today as it’s always been: We all need to go outside.

The best advertising a company can get is John Mayer talking honestly about it.
If you've ever seen John Mayer talk about his PRS guitars or other products he endorses, you'll know that he isn't talking "honestly" about it. Not saying he's lying, but he's definitely very aware that he's marketing these things when he talks about them. Otherwise a very solid dude and obviously a killer songwriter and guitarist.

Just that when I went to take a selfy with him, he took the camera and said, "Let me do this my arms are long and perfect for selfies." lol The guy was genuine, everything just flowed and the camera crew were on minimum days at school. I kept asking myself, how is going to be a commercial ? There's no lines and we are always just talking about what we like to do in nature..... Little did we know, we'd be inspiring a whole new generation coming up. The outdoors is where it is at, of course a little JM to go along with our adventures. Be cool, Jack Trout

I will love to see a netflix show about john talking about nature and stuff, hes well spoken, his interview in hot wings and about his watch collection shows how much of his thoughts are about and it's great, the conversations this man can take you, damn!!!

I would like to thank The Atlantic, Jason, Eric, the Film Crew and John Mayer. Working on this commercial was a dream come true and the Film Crew was just classic! Just so everyone knows, very little if any was staged, the lines were completely improv and I found a profound chemistry with everyone that was there that day on the Smith River in Jedediah Smith State Park Redwoods, California. Because of John's fun loving jovial approach to life, everyone there was set at ease, it was just fun and most of the time we were laughing at some joke he made so it was funny too. John's talent goes way far beyond writing music, he is like one of the Beatles in an interview where the jokes just flow. Who would of thought in my lifetime I would be chosen for this small part as the fly fishing guide. I am honored but more so, I hope we inspire more of you to get out into nature and explore our great nation. "The only thing that's perfect is nature, everything else is naturally imperfect." Learn a hobby and get out there, the outdoors should define everyone these days.

For anyone wondering... The song is called "A Simple Song" - he wrote it for himself for his birthday. He talked about the process of letting a song go once its finished. Simple song was suppose to just be for him.

@@markk6151 for me Room For Squares, Heavier Things, Continuum ...I love Battle Studies as well, but I feel like it's been a slow downhill ride since Continuum. Paradise Valley & Born Raised have some great songs, but I feel like every album since Continuum has gotten less "exciting" ...He's a super exciting person, but I'm not surprised anymore like I was through those first three albums where it really felt like we are along for an artistic ride that was going to shake the earth in a totally beautiful way. It felt like he had something to prove in the first 3 or 4 albums. Now it feels like he's just "Chillin".

It’s absolutely heartwarming to see how genuine John is, such a true character with so much knowledge to give to the world. Definitely has had an important impact on me and can confidently say for many others ❤️

Do you really think Landrover will give carte blanche to John to say whatever he wants? Ofcourse not. Advertising companies have to present the commercial before it is even made.
@@colaboytje I never said it wasn't scripted but it's very obvious that a fair amount of it was John just being John as well. It's perfectly normal for advertising companies to allow intelligent people such as him to put their own spin onto things.

Nothing was staged, I was there and there was no script, every line was improve. John Mayer is the "Real-Deal."
What exactly is "Genuine" about getting paid to do an ad for Land Rover? Had he done it for free, then THAT would be genuine. Had he just taken a camera into the woods alone and shot this video, then THAT would be genuine. Does nobody else grasp this concept?

No. They did not. I was there last week. But, if we keep putting out all the small fires and allowing the fuel to build up, eventually it could.
This is a beautiful video. My wife and I took a trip to Eureka and spent a week in the sequoias and redwoods (just before the birth of our first son) in 2019. This experience takes me back to those peaceful, quiet times. A much-needed pick-me-up, as this year, the State is on fire and blue skies are nowhere to be found. I absolutely love the combo of these three things! I own a Land Rover LR4. Being a Colorado native, it is the absolute perfect, most comfortable and capable vehicle I've ever owned. l love nature, the outdoors and exploring them in my Land Rover is one of my favorite realities to transcend to... Couple those two things with my absolute favorite human being and musician, John Mayer?! I am in heaven! Thank you for bringing this union to the world❤

the sad thing is massive polluting vehicles like landrovers have contributed to the changing climate that has made these fires worse. he's helping sell the problem, and pretending he cares about the environment.

I made this journey, leaving my VW bus parked at home, and hitchhiked by myself, met a traveler along the way to hitch with, stayed on a farm in Miranda, then continued on to Oregon... hitched back to the farm, say the guy, and after two days headed back home...was back at work at the Radio Station by Midnight Saturday/Sun 2ks later!
