watched your video yesterday..had same issue with live stream and no recording or blue light. purchased a WD 3TB BLUE on Amazon for $43...it was truly as easy as your video showed to replace and saved me $340 for a new DVR from Swann..once replaced i went to main menu and clicked on system and new disk showed up..clicked on it and the option to reformat disk showed up..clicked YES and within minutes it was up and running fine

Hi Mike. My XVR for my security cameras is not recording. I'm getting message "No HDD". I believe that's that the hard drive is not functioning. How would I go about fixing my problem? Do I buy a new XVR or do I just replace the hard drive? I'm mainly afraid that it what I do, it won't connect

If the hard drive is replaceable pull it and buy another and install it. That’s what I had to do with mine. Make sure you get a hard drive for dvr’s

I am a nearly 20 years cctv installer, the reason HDD failes , to avoid noise most 4ch dvrs has no fan because they are used at home in bedrom or living rom or attic, if the area is warm and HDD on a continous recordin ,HDD never gets rest heats up and damage, first turn the recordin on a motion second add a fan on it , (look at one of my video) problem solved

They are messing with our equipment thru their smartgrid. They been taking out what they want, to mess w us. Our power partially went down the other day, then came back on right away. My security camera wasn't acting right at first, and I turned it off and on a few times, and it started working fine again. Then they did it again yesterday, just a partial off in the house, then back on, and now the security system keep saying it is searching for signal, then it says, signal unavailable switching to power save mode, and the screen goes dark. I never used it online, and refuse to do that, so why is it saying it is searching for a signal? It won't let me get to any of it's other controls at all...I have tried all the buttons etc and nothing is working.

Hey man, i notice that you put your DVR on or near the speakers, that might be the cause of having bad hard drives, the speakers have strong magnets which might have damaged the hard drives.

@@djronthemechanic3695 Thank you. Someone in another video had the same problem and another person suggested changing the power adapter. I did and the hard drive was detected! @@djronthemechanic3695 I had an error showing the HDD was unformatted and later that it didn't exist. I did see someone saying they cured this by replacing the 12v power adapter but I ignored that and replaced the HDD since the DVR would power up and work but just showed no HDD.
The new HDD arrived and now the DVR won't power up at all. I've now discovered that not only was it the PSU that was on it's way out (and not the HDD) but I could have easily traced the fault by swapping the camera PSU for the DVR PSU as they are identical (the camera one has a splitter to power four cameras). I've put the old HDD back in the DVR, powered it with the old camera PSU and it works fine. No cameras working because the bad PSU is now plugged into them. I now have one bad PSU and two good HDD's.
I could have saved £70 on the replacement HDD and spent (at time of writing) £5.99 including delivery from Amazon for a replacement PSU. That's now on it's way and I'm confident I'll be back up and running tomorrow having learnt a £70 lesson..
Hence this post to save others making the same mistake.
