In this lesson, we take a good look at what we do in every day speaking to realize that it is possible to hit higher notes that might have been previously "off limits" before. Singing begins in the mind and can limit our vocal abilities in unnecessary ways. Let's learn how to not let our minds limit our range!
I have tried to explain this phenomena to many friends. Where a person's natural speaking voice does affect where they sing naturally and figuring out how speech can help you understand going higher or even lower. Delivery of the lyric itself and vowel shape is more important than people like to think. I'm no expert but it's good to hear these things I've noticed echoed so eloquently. Great series of videos 🤘
AWE SUM, if our voice (the sound) is a mixture of vocal chords vibrations, muscles and air flow, how can you say that we cannot train those ‘ingredients’ to expand vocal range? We can practice our vocal chords to vibrate faster, and with greater amplitude therefore, to increase vocal range.
Nelson Brilhante - That clown doesn’t sing. We are all born with potential range, not usable range. Just because a person can squeeze out a C5 doesn’t mean they can sing it. In an untrained state they may only be able to sing a C3.
i don't like this symbol🤘. its satanic stuff.. earrrggghhh
@@Dandontlie Or it's "I love you" in Sign language ;)
Stop
Any other phrase that doesn't make neighbors call the police?
haha... really anything will work... my kids inspired this one, cause that's what they say to each other in the phase they are in (many times a day)
"These pretzels are making me thirsty"
lmao!
Lmfao....I'm dying here
literally had to turn it down, got paranoid they might
Fun Fact: "I told you to stop" is actually a cover. It was my mom's hit single when my brother and I were kids. Nice Cover, Chris! 😂
We perform this song in our house as well
I used to practice this song on the daily
It's also Melania's favorite song and phrase.
I bet "hit" was literal
The hit follow up was "Would you like me to give you something to really cry about?" :D
Johnny Sinns giving singing lessons after hearing so many high pitched voices :)
haha most guys should understand that comment
HAHAHAHA WTF
He's a freaking legend 😂
My actual thoughts.
Hahaa
"I told you to STOP!" - Steve Carell
That's perfect lol
ua-cam.com/video/4hlfCdNBlME/v-deo.html
It reminded me of him too lol
No I won't you stop it 😂😂😂😂
"Oh God, please NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
Me : *Trying to sing*
Chris: I TOLD YOU TO STOP DOING THAT
ok ;;
I did as well I am wondering if the pitch was an F?
I love how your falsetto sounds like Mickey Mouse
Dylan Duke hahaha that’s so true!
Totally
I was doing the exercises and my wife said I told you to stop”
I said I’m glad you’re doing the exercises too lol
HAHAHA! ...YES!
Amazing tutorials bro!
Behold, the most vanilla Rage Against the Machine song ever.
Quite True!
Holobrine He’s totally killing it with his Zach de la Rocha impression
After doing this exercise for about a minute I broke my record for the highest note I've ever sung, awesome stuff!
My neighbour was passing by my door, this I had the volume up too loud. He knocked to ask if everything was okay lol. I promised there was no DV going on, and I was alone, asked him the video.
HE suggests to you to consider a better phrase - he was upset and said he was tempted to call the police instead of knock.
I promised him I would pass it on.
I'll try the lesson you're giving, good job
If it was a "more neutral" phrase, I wouldn't be able to entertain myself with all the crazy stories people share about their practice experiences :)
I got an ad saying that UA-cam videos won’t help you learn to sing and then they said to buy their VIDEO lessons! How hypocritical and ridiculous is that, and for the record I’ve learned a lot from your channel on how to fine tune my voice. This advert keeps coming up and it still pisses me off! 😂
Force vs flow. This is what allows me to hit high notes. You have to be relaxed and just let your voice naturally go there without tension. Tension/strain will mess you up and give you a bad pitch. Glide they're and ride the wave. 10 years of singing experience and it took me that long to discover it. I stumbled upon this by accident. This takes massive concentration and I recommend people practice sensational awareness in order to get this. I have to articulate though but that is also another thing that people are missing. A good mind-body connection.
My girlfriend told me to stooooooooooop watching this video.
I'm starting to hear Michael Scott losing his mind about Toby coming back 😂
haha!!
While I was trying to sleep. "I told you to stop doing that" keep on echoing to my mind. Help
haha
I love that you don't care about being ridiculous to make an excellent point VERY well. It seems like all of your videos take this great approach.
Your lessons are so addictive, man. I already feel like I improved some aspects of my singing techniques just by watching your videos. You also seem to be extremely humble and an awesome dude. Keep ‘em coming!
This was the funniest singing video I have ever seen.
You haven’t ceased to amaze me Chris! I also found that C5 note. Doesn’t sound fantastic or singable yet, but it’s quite amazing how we speak so high yet can’t sing it 😂 let’s see how this goes
I love when you crack yourself up when you’re doing funny sounding exercises. These videos are so helpful. I’m not a vocalist by any means. I actually just really like to sing in my car and stuff and my girlfriend always tells me I should try to learn more. I love ‘trying’ to sing Layne Staley or Alice In Chains. I would love to see you do a video on whatever song of theirs you think is most interesting. Laynes voice is awesome I hope one day I can replicate that grit and range.
Your videos may as well changed my life. I’ve dabbled in recording my own music and I’ve always wanted to be able sing higher (baritone👋🏻). Your breakdown of compressed head voice totally unlocked a new range for me. Im hitting pitches way higher than I ever thought and making them sound punchy enough that you can’t tell it’s falsetto. So cool. Thank you.
Dude you make learning more about singing hella fun
yay :)
Thanks to this explanation of yours I managed to stop squeezing high notes out of my throat (literally). I can't thank enough for making managing own voice possible in such a simple way 😊
Glad it helped!
I can't thank you enough for giving out this quality of advice for free! 💗💗
I wouldn't have made it as far as i have today with my voice if it wasn't for your love of the craft and belief that the proliferation of it should be obtainable by anyone with passion enough to seek it out.
Neighbours: i told YOU TO STOP!
me: i told YOU to STOP
OMG you have the most funniest and even amazing tips to sing better. I'm so happy I found your channel. I've been surching for so many things to help me, like apps, online courses and all was making me feel like it was so much responsability and little boring details (I know they are necessary tho) that they were making me very anxious and I have this problem. I'm a very anxious person and I always end up no practicing things because I'm afraid it will take too long for me and I'll never be able to learn. I know, it's a lot of stuff going on in my mind, but your videos gave more confidence somehow. I don't feel so much under pressure. Yesterday I gave up singing a cover from a band I love, because the vocalist screams and I'm bad at screaming. Then I said to the guys from my band that I couldn't do it and I changed the song. Than I just watched you video about how to scream and add distortion to the voice and I was here following you, doing the exercises. I realized that If I had seen you video before I wouldn't have give up. It would have taken few days of practicing. Anyway, thank you so much! I'll do the cover for sure in the future. 🤘💙
This is great!
Keep being you. You're good at it.
oh man, these videos are so refreshing from a technique perspective, and also super funny and positive! hope more people discover this channel
Subscribed straight away! Loving this. Thanks so much for the way you deliver this without giving a fark about what anyone else thinks about You! This is great.
Thanks!
Really good approach with your vids man, this channel will grow pretty quick, keep it up!
That is the single most helpful piece of singing advice I've ever heard.
Subscribed.
Meanwhile, an entire SWAT team has assembled outside this guy's house
Haha
Literally just found your vids through your “learn how to scream” vid, and am gonna binge ALL of your videos. Had an accident that hurt my vocal capabilities a while ago and have stopped singing consistently because of it. But this has definitely gotten me back into what i love.
I really wish I discovered these videos 3 years ago when I was starting to distort my voice and expand my range.... (not that those things go hand in hand) instead of doing permanent damage to my vocal cords!
Great stuff! Excited to binge watch this channel!
One of your videos randomly autoplayed while at work. So glad it did; you explain these concepts really well! Subbed, keep up the great work man.
Hi Chris, this was a great technique. Most of us ain’t aware of our speaking voice and when applying emotion and expression, will enable us to shift our voice to a higher register.
You have such a confidence poking through the lens and I now love your voice.
I have noticed this over decades but always forget to implement it, such an awesome lesson, thank you! Subbed! 🤘😁
This is a really educational video and you put into words something I'd been semi-consciously aware of, and also your example at the end was REALLY funny. I'm a big, big new fan of your stuff, man. Kudos to you for putting this kind of thing out there!
This is gold. thanks yet again Chris.
Thank you Chris, my progress really started after watching your videos. My global understanding, singing feelings and my range increased thanks to your comments on the nasal and mixed voices, and I am starting to reach the fried areas but without mastery yet. For soon, thanks to you. Again.
Chris--I really want to thank you for this video. I've enjoyed singing for many years, but was always frustrated by not being able to hit higher notes and always having to transpose the key downwards. This video really unlocked something for me and now--even at the age of 49--I can finally sing several songs that I never could. I need at least half an hour to warm up my voice, but the progress has been wonderful. I even managed a passable rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water while loading the dishwasher the other day. Thanks again!
Glad to hear!!
I was doing the exercise and he told me to stop doing that...
me too. what should we do then?
Stop ✋
that {TOLD} is an A4.
you welcome.
The whole nasal resonance thing exploded my mind
Chris- that was a very smart video. I love using techniques like your, “I told you to stop”, to get a singer somewhere without them even realizing they are doing a singing exercise! Lots of times singers have all the pieces for what they need in their songs in there regular speech. It helps so much to identify it as you just did!
I see a lot of strong points to this idea and im gonna try it.
Because basically our speaking viice is also our singing voice. Is there anything else? of course none but our own voice. So i agree to all of this. Thanks for sharing bro!
Right!! Soooo much available in our speaking voice if we let it inform our singing. Most people keep them separate which is very limiting.
Man... I really love the way you see things!! Please don't stop doing these videos. Im used to sing really low stuff like bossa nova. And I'm trying to sing higher... The way you see things is helping me to get those high notes but I'm still in a G and sometimes it's a weak G.. Please keep going!!
I can hit the notes in falsetto easy, just not in my head voice
I just tried this today. Revolutionary. Thank you, thank you for sharing!!! Game changer!
I can't...i can't stop the watching your videos man they're amazing! Thank you soooooo muchhh!!!
Man that was hilarious I never knew singing had this funny side to it. Iv sung for fun with my guitar for yrs and I'm pretty good nothing like u am not going there. And iv never really done any practicing like this, I make up songs and match my voice to the chords I play and make up words. This way of practicing is so new to me, iv only just started watching u and I'm blown away by the techniques, sound really helpful advice and it has to be said uv got a great sense of urself to not let it bother u that it might sound or look silly till u get it right. It puts a lot of people off singing when they can't hit the note straight away so they think they can't sing
Love learning from u I'm sure I tried to enroll in ur free course bu can't seem to get on to it for some reason al keep trying and keep watching and having fun with this super helpful thanx
Thank you very much! Great tip 🤘🎶
I had to say Sir..
Your Channel is the BEST singing lessons Channel i stumbled upon!
REally!
I'm a self-teached Singer, and your videos had helped me to implement my capacities and understand the principles of singing, in a way any other other Channel Couldnt! Your Methods are so instinctive and natural, so anyone can really learn and understand what you're saying.
I reallly cant Thank you enough for this amazing work, and for Sharing with us all this great stuff!
Keep this amazing Work Dude!
My complements from Brazil!
Your videos are gold thank u master Saitama
I was doing this, but my wife told me to stop! Awesome lesson!
this was brilliant, thank you
i love your channel, it's been very informational on helping develop my voice. And more and more I'm noticing some of the stuff you say cracks me up when I think about it without ANY context, now my abs hurt but i still love your videos.
This is cool, and very helpful!!!
Thanks Chris, this is very helpful 👍
Man you guys are so good at singing and also great at explaining things 😊💪
Lyrics:
I told you to stop
I told you
I told you
I told you to stop
I told you to stop doing that
I told you
I told you
I told you to STOOOOP!
I told you to STOOOOP!
I told you to stop
I told you
I told you to STOOOOOOOOP!
I told you to STOP!
I told you to stop
To stop
To STOP
I told you to stop
Do what I told ya
Do what I told ya
I told you to stop
I told you to stop
What are you doing? I told you to stop!
(Not going for any pitch)
I told you to stop
I told you to STOOOOOOOOP!
To stop!
I told you to stop!
Stoooop.
This has cracked me up really good. Well played.
Thanks... I've never had this explained to me before.
Perfect approach 👍
Amazing and beneficial --thanks a lot.
Great stuff!!!
Really enjoying your content man. UA-cam recommendations got me here and even though i already do some of these things I didn’t know exactly how I was doing it to explain to others. I’m not trained on notes though, I just hear a note and I can sing it. Same with writing music. I’m primarily an unclean vocalist and the video on how you do it helped me know exactly where that sound was so I could comfortably switch in and out without changing my volume. I learned to scream by copying the voice from the grudge and shifting it farther down, then when I found that region I just shifted my air flow to change pitch. Not sure what the technique there is. My yells however are very close to your video but I dip in and out of a fry scream with them to make them feel less like a technique and more like someone aggressively mad. My band mirror my lies has a song called malleus est Mortis where I do almost every unclean in my arsenal.
Thank you so much Chris I really appreciate what you’re doing, your videos made me a much better singer, thank you so much❤️🔥
Genius. So simple yet effective
I thought this was clickbait, but it turned out to be fun and entertaining. I like how you stumbled upon this and conveyed the information. Nice. New sub
Nice! Welcome!
Sweetness. Will be putting this to use!!
I'm singing a lot of countertenor stuff in my new band which I've never done on official music before. Hopefully this video will help me pull it off live.
You are the vest men! 👍I understand perfectly everything you say 👌 thank you very much
Very clever observations
Got a good laugh AND some very useful info. Keep up the great lesson videos! :) Subscribed.
I live in an apartment complex and I want to do vocals but am embarrassed by what the neighbors might think is happening.
Thanks for this man!
Awesome, Thankyou 😊
My god, U are helping so much man. Amazing breakdown.
thx for your video! Its much better example than other..for me for sure.Im trying to find the mix voice in myself since I started singin'..over 20yrs:) Im going to practice day by day..w'll see ;)
omg this was *exactly* the puzzle piece i needed to finally find my mixed voice! thank you so much you are an awesome teacher!!
You're so welcome!
Thanks for sharing this treasure.
Great teacher
Thank you for this, while for the past few months I've worked immensely to improve my range through exercises and my range has improved a lot but still much more to be desired and this video helped a lot
Wonderful!
You are a legend! thank you bro
Fantastic maaan! New here and love your techniques!
A lot of good points.
Like how this ties into the video about finding you own voice by singing some made up phrase (and not emulating someone from another song). You're not emulating, you're exploring. Chris a smart guy.
Repitition legitimizes. Even if its just a random yelling.
Thank you!
This video, I followed along one time. Wrote a new song and recorded it the other day, tried the technique and was able to reach an exciting new vocal sound. Enrolled in your 12 week course today. Thank you very much.
Haha, a Perfect way to see it from another perspective. Thanks!
Hey Chris. Your video was recommended to me organically by UA-cam. You're moving up in the world.
this helped me more than anything else on YT
Enlightening. Brilliant! Career changing!!
Nice :)
that is really good to get at the voice, very freeing
Cool. Thanks brother. I have always been a stickler for drop Db but my main gits for recording have forced me back up to standard. Need all the help I can get. Will be watching all your Vids.
This is gold! Now i cant stop.
I told you to... !!!
I would totally purchase the "I Told You To Stop" song. Just let me know when it is on iTunes
Amazing !
