- Abandoned Winn Dixie - Reidsville, NC. It's not everyday you'll come across an abandoned Winn Dixie store. However in North Carolina, due to the company leaving in 2005, many of their former stores remain empty to this day including this one which sits behind a dead mall that is nearly in the same shape.

We lost our Winn Dixie here in SC also in 05-06. Our old store is now an IGA store. I miss Winn Dixie My favorite store from my childhood. The company is based in Jacksonville FL of which they still have stores there.
The ones where I live in upstate south Carolina left around that time too😢
you guys should do a video of the kmart in Madison NC that closed down as well.
In the late 90s my sister was pushing buggy around fast as hell and broke a whole bunch of wine bottles in Winn Dixie store. The old Kmart building is now a storage place
Check out the Near Abandon Oak Hollow Mall in High Point, NC now owned by High Point University. By the way Winn Dixie ditched in the Grocery Shake Up with Harris Teeter and Kroger Stores traded territories
Dallas/Fort Worth had a bunch of Winn Dixie stores. They've been gone for over 20 years.
The JC Penny had buckets catching leaks when it was still open.
I’m from reidsville brother! I have a lot of fond memories of Winn dixie and pennrose mall ! They had an amazing candy store next to jc penny back when I was a kid.

@@Face_Reality not at all! Everybody is friendly and welcoming! You have a few bad apples of course, but it’s a lot more good folks here than bad!
BMW. Peanut shack. Had the red pistachios. Spent many a day in the arcade across from eckerds. Eckerds had the best cheeseburgers.
@@Face_Reality not bad but my truck has been broken into a couple times. Not really violent but certain areas you should make sure you put up tools/lawn equipment and lock vehicles at night. That's kind of anywhere you go though. Reidsville is fine, kind of boring but several larger cities a few miles in all directions

This Winn Dixie had sold these tound tortilla chips that had a seasoning on them that I've never tasted again. They sold something lost in my childhood
Kmart closed in 2014. I hated to see it go cause I was not always fond of going to the overcrowded Walmart.

Raised in Reidsville from 1974-95
I use to shop at this Winn Dixie and also the K-Mart. Unfortunately walmart killed the other businesses in Reidsville and Eden.
We used to have a winn dixie in kentucky
My dad put the plumbing heat and air in the Penn Rose Mall. The mall and the grocery store ise to be the Fair grounds
Glad you mentioned that Abandoned Kmart, I use to work at that very same Kmart in Reidsville NC that went out of business It used to be a Big Kmart before it closed in 2014 Right where you had your camera was where the customer service desk was of that kmart. I remember shopping at this Winn Dixie with my mom when I was a kid it looked very nice inside back then, can't believe it's still some lights on in the background.

They had a live lobster tank in there. You could pick them out. Pennrose had peanut shack,eckerds, arcade,comic/card store. Loved it when I was young

The Eckerd Drug was in the Pennrose mall where Hibbet Sports was. It even had a eatery inside with barstools.

I grew up in Reidsville. Have a lot of memories of this shopping center. Those buildings had a lot of issues with leaking.

@@Face_Reality It wasn't that bad when I lived there 24 years ago. Had a pit bull , Doberman and ex military family members. Safest house on the block then.

I used to shop here. It was last used for a trade show by the chamber of commerce several years ago and Lowes had a big booth.

I’m from Reidsville. I have many memories as a child in the 90’s in that Winn Dixie. My mom using the coupons. Us begging for candy and cookies lol. I remember they had a photo lab too if I remember correctly. It closed I think I’m late 90’s or 2000. To many grocery stores to compete against in Reidsville. Reidsville is small and quiet but it’s great cause it’s small and all of the much larger cities are like 20-30 minute drive away.

Next time your in reidsville there is a golden corral off freeway drive that was abandoned due to the pandemic....also the dollar general in downtown eden, nc is an old family video i know you would enjoy...lastly check out the 'dead' eden mall...would make for a good video as well

Winn-Dixie went bankrupt in 2005, the reason why they pulled out.

This region has been horribly depressed for thirty years now, The mills moved to Bangladesh. Danville is getting a casino soon, so that will help with giving people jobs.
winn dixie was a good grocery store i miss it, i left fl. where it was at.

As a local North Carolina resident who grew up here in the 90s and early 2000s, I can definitely say it was the early 2000s when they did close down so you are correct and the reasoning is true .... you have Food Lions all over, you have IGA branded groceries here and there .... Walmart and Target and Winn-Dixie was just pretty much an after-thought. I can only remember a handful of occasions going into a Winn-Dixie with my mom or grandmother as they were usually out of the area for us.
Rock Hill, S.C. actually lost its Winn-Dixie before 2000. I forget the actual year. But in 1999 it re-opened as Hannaford. I have a File with the Company Logo and the file is stamped 10/9/1999 about Y2K (LoL). Hannaford's life at that former Winn-Dixie was very short-lived, however, when Food Lion pounced on Hannaford and it then went on to change over to a Food Lion, which it still is to this very day.
The interior of this store reminds me of the interior of a typical South Eastern BI-LO store (Even after Food Lion bought them out and rebranded all the remaining stores, which I may or may not still be upset about)

The Kmart in Reidsville has just closed down in the last 5 years
We use to have a Winn-Dixie in Glasgow Kentucky and it was part of a shopping center with a Wal-Mart and after Wal-Mart moved into their Supercenter which is where I work at now it closed around 2005 well it was sold to E W James and Son and then it closed and about 7 or 8 years ago it got new life with Aaron’s Joann’s and Ruler Food taking over it

Winn-Dixie is now owned by Southeastern Grocers who owns Bi~Lo and it has gone downhill in a way here in my area of Florida. There are only two decent stores here that are relatively clean inside and it's sad because since their buyout it's worse. Thankfully the manager at my nearest store that is old make her people maintain it and it stays clean.

Winn Dixie did the same thing in VA closed all the locations in 04 05 some of them still sit abandoned to this day

There are still some Winn Dixie stores in Louisiana, but many of them have closed. A couple of the local ones were damaged in the 2016 flood and they didn't reopen and were replaced with Shoppers Value supermarkets, which I don't care for.

Winn Dixie in Louisville left in the early 2000s , part of Winn Dixie issues, high prices and promotions on private label. They still have one in Chalmette Louisiana when we visit down there
My very first job was at Winn Dixie, although where I live WD bought a local chain called Thriftway.
Now it's a Dollar General Market.
Cool, there was an old Winn_Dixie in Canton NC, closed in 2005 or so, looked like it was from the 180's, not updated at all. small, was cool, though. In floods of 2004, Ivan and Francis Ts's, I had to go behind it in a muddy road to get around the flooding. I Drove from Food Lion in Canton NC were I did frozen. to Asheville NC 😀
Apparently, Winn Dixie filed for bankruptcy in 2005, which explains why a lot of their stores closed around that time.

The Atlanta Georgia area stores in 2001 became Save Rite (Winn Dixie used it as a last attempt to stay in the Atlanta area) but they to had since closed. Most later became Food Lion then Food Depot, and some were still abandoned.

If you think this is bad you should see the mall with the roses, it’s so run down and collapsing from the inside ceiling on the other end by the Belk.

There is an abandoned Winn Dixie in Eden on highway 700, not far from Reidsville, also the second Winn Dixie in Eden has been turned into a save a lot and Schewels

Walmart took over the Winn-Dixie in High Point,NC and the old Kmart has been taken over by Rose's, DDs Discounts, and Planet Fitness. I think Winn-Dixie closed down in my area before 2004. I work at Bojangles.

The Kmart was built in the late 1970's. The old JC PENNY store that you refer to that is in such bad shape is in fact the original site of Winn-Dixie. They built the new store behind the mall and move into it. The JCPenney store that was in downtown Reidsville moved into the vacant Winn-Dixie building in the pennrose mall. Unfortunately Walmart can be blamed for many of these stores closing. Also there are three Food Lion grocery stores in Reidsville what's a Lowes food and of course don't forget Walmart grocery Center. The close down Kmart at one time was one of the nicest department stores in the city with an automotive center as well which was shut down in the early 1990s

Charlie C's was a Piggy Wiggly before. It could have been Winn Dixie way back but my sister bought a house on W. Gannon and I always went to Piggly wiggly when I would visit her.

@@JackVegetables18 Oh ok, that's pretty interesting. My mom and dad live in Bailey and they have a Piggy Wiggly there still. I'm in Smithfield now and we have some great grocery stores out this way with insane meat prices.
I use to work at this Winn Dixie 25 years ago. They could have done something with this and old Kmart building instead of letting them rot..
