  • Restored NASA documentary about the Western Test Range (Vandenberg Space Force Base). It covers the launch of a Thor-Delta rocket, with the participation of the Canadian Space Agency.
AI upscale (Topaz AI) was used to resample the film to full HD resolution. While it works in most cases, some artifacts are present in some sequences.
To prevent any issues, original music was removed or replaced with generic themes from UA-cam's library.
Sound and image cleanup, conversion to original 24 fps frame rate, geometry correction and AI upscale and color restoration by RetroSpace HD.

The Western Range (WR) is the space launch range that supports the major launch head at Vandenberg Space Force Base.  Managed by the Space Launch Delta 30, the WR extends from the West Coast of the United States to 90° East longitude in the Indian Ocean,  where it meets the Eastern Range. Operations involve military, government, and commercial interests. The WR has been operated by civilian contractors since its establishment, following the precedent of the Eastern Range.

Today, the OSHA personnel would have had massive heart attacks if they saw that.

Did 4 launch campaigns there, 2 things stand out from then. Should we go to Jocko's or the Hitching Post? And remember to put your order in for some tri-tip to take home :)

As a pinball machine fan, that's good to know. I've seen a vintage police radar gun with them too.@@sQWERTYFALIEN2011

I can't believe they were going to try to launch a shuttle from that base. The block house was 100 yards from the pad.🤣

That was a bad idea. The plan was scrapped when the Challenger safety report was released. The Air Force then had to depend on expendable boosters to put satellites in polar orbit.

@@robertcampbell6349It doesn't help the situation that NASA was going to launch the shuttle for everything (a bad idea unto itself) and the fact that they were going to use the filament wound style SRB'S for their launches from Vandenberg Space Force Base.

@@foxmccloud7055 Yes, NASA putting all its eggs in the Space Sbuttle basket was a terrible idea. And, NASA lied about the economics of the shuttle to keep the program alive. Eventually, NASA began to believe its own lies and cancelled expendable launch vehicle production.
