Bruce Hornsby really is a legend isn’t he .. never heard this one before .. brilliant tune and keyboard & piano tone .. thank you for the music Sir .. 👍🫶
I had the pleasure of speaking to him briefly at the Richmond airport and he was so warm. This song has always stirred me to tears because for years, I was a lost soul in the midst of active addiction. By the grace of God and the AA program, I am now married and sober over 21 years. Bruce's music is just good for the soul, and it always takes me back to my youth growing up in Virginia.
this song.... many, many years ago.... thoughts of suicide.... alleviated by this melody, lyrics, compassion, I love this... I love my life... I'm so glad I heard this, the people who cared, and how it helped me evolve into the spectacular person I've become...
This song always makes me think of the man I dreamed of being growing up versus the man that I am. I often feel like the lost soul walking in between 2 worlds never fitting in completely in either.
Yeah, me too bro. My adult life never amounted to much but at least I learned to know myself better and accept it all. And, as long we got music like this, life can’t be too bad. 🙂All the best!🙏
I wore this cassette out when I had it back in the late 80s. Shawn Colvin has one of the most beautiful, haunting Celtic voices of all time and Bruce is a virtuoso. This track is one of the most beautiful of all time. Hard to believe Shawn used to do those Irish Spring soap commercials back in the 70s.
Ditto. From a gal encapsulated in (& from) The progressive music era.. I just fwd a copy (with remix) to my 17yr. old granddaughter & 13yr old grandson for consideration to aquire in performaning a duet...
My favorite Bruce Hornsby and the Range Song. I remember playing this sitting at the back of the Cape Coast "castle" pondering with All these beautiful voices, how then can "The other ones" not learn from Him and dished so much Evil to The African. Love Will Always Triumph over Evil.
Bruce Hornsby is sublime as is this song. He should record and release it again. It, as does, Bruce, deserves to be heard. It has the potential to be a worldwide hit. Bruce, I hope you read this Post one day and do it!
I recently discovered this great artist.I dont understand some things(the language) but I can feel his heart.Sorry for my english.Regards from Argentina.
I heard this song for the first time Saturday and discovered a river of tears because (this is solipsistic to say) I felt as though this song was written for me.
I agree. Bruce is a rare and skilled musician. Great genius. Not many musicians quite like Bruce Hornsby. I could listen to his songs all day 5 ***** .
"Lost Soul" There was a man of confused and sad nature Thought no one loved him, that was not true He said he was a lost soul, didn't fit in anywhere Didn't know where to turn or who to turn to There's a lost soul coming down the road Somewhere between two worlds With an oar in his hands and a song on your lips We'll row the boat to the far shore Row the boat of love, lost soul Ever since, oh, I can remember We all tried to ease the pain Took him in when he needed some shelter Tried to make him feel he was one of us again There was one day, oh, I can remember He sat alone with a pencil in his hand All day long he drew careful on the paper In the end, just a picture of a man There's the lost soul coming down the road Somewhere between two worlds With an oar in his hands and a song on your lips We'll row the boat to the far shore Row the boat of love, lost soul Oh, dear Mary, do you remember The day we went walking downtown As I recall, it was in early December After school had just let out When I see you on the street in the twilight I may tip my hat and keep my head down You show me love, but maybe I don't deserve it I've been called but not been found There's a lost soul coming down the road Somewhere between two worlds With an oar in his hands and a song on your lips We'll row the boat to the far shore Row the boat of love, lost soul
I’ll never forget hearing this tune live in a small college gym back in the late eighties. It was the first time seeing Bruce as well. I was already overcome with these lyrics, his music, and the incredible vocals of this piece. To hear it live, the heavy synth accompaniment to the keys that has become Bruce’s trademark sound was one the most memorable concert moments I’ve ever experienced. Love this tune.
I just recently discovered this song and ive listened to it a million times. It hits so hard and reminds me of myself at one dark moment in my life and dark moments of so many people i know. Just beautiful and spot on. ❤😢❤
I hadn't heard this song before about three months ago--not sure how I missed it, but I did. It is a beautiful song, & it is made even better, due to the fact that it features another one of my favorites, Shawn Colvin. They are both brilliant, & neither gets the credit they should.
This song meets me in my own lostness. And in every body s lostness. Thank you Jesus calling, seeking and drawing us always and anywhere to our good no matter how much lost we may be.
Someone gave me a ticket to see Bruce Hornsby and the Range at Hammersmith Oden London in 1988, at a lose end so thought why not. Played the whole of first album Bruce Hornsby and the Range and Scenes from the Southside. Over 3 hours on stage and musically brilliant. I was hooked and have admired this talented mans, musical genius ever since that night. Was lucky to see him with the Noisemakers in Charlotte NC last year, still in love with his music.
No matter the time in place , this artist is the best in all times..Two great artist with a message for the times. How we long to turn back the pages not realizing all along the best is before us. As a person of color. I have enjoyed this artist for many years,, music cross lines and keeps all of us a part of the human race.
Hello Bruce. You will not remember this, but when I was in Las Vegas, you sent me a message to GET OUT! Which I did. I have a life today because of you. Thank you and Valley Roads! Luv you, L
Thanks Bruce for all the wonderful music memorys....... never ever felt you ever got the recognition for your brilliant music......but I'm still rolling with you in 2021 and beyond
Corey Pack 6 years ago I remember hearing this song as I walked the harbor one night in downtown Los Angeles and heard this playing from someone's window and found myself in perfect peace as I gazed at the city's beauty smoking a cigarette.
So harmonisch das ganze Musikstück. Besonders das Gesang der ersten und der zweiten Stimme überragt in Ihrer Schönheit aber dennoch im Ernst der Traurigkeit.
I looked this song up today because I've recently come to the realization that I am truly a 'lost soul'. No, not in the insipid way that christians think of the phrase; but as a man who has 'found himself' to the extent that he has been 'lost' to the world. In fact, I believe that Jesus was a 'lost soul' in just such a way. I am not to be pitied, but congratulated. I am now truly free. BTW, wonderful song; and while Scenes From The Southside is my sentimental favorite Hornsby CD, Night On The Town is no doubt the best one.
Hard to believe that this wasn't a hit & isn't well known. Such a powerful & beautiful song. Totally one of BH's very best. Has me in tears & reeling as the words really hit me.
i'm not quite sure where i was when this song came out...over seas probably. i finally caught up to this little gem. lost soul has a very surreal sound to it. kind of an opposite to every little kiss, and the same vein as mandolin rain...haunting...
Hornsby was under-appreciated even in his day. He burned really hot for a few months as "the OTHER Bruce" and then other artists wanted to use him as a composer and piano player to bolster their recordings. I got this album, Night on the town in the early 1990s for a dollar in the bargain bin. It was his third and final album as part of Bruce Hornsby and The Range. This song, while not a single, was an exquisite masterpiece. Shawn Colvin, before her bried solo fame, with her soprano voice, cut through Hornsby's baritone, and his character's BS, like a knife through butter. They collided gorgeously. Hornsby was creating characters worthy of the stage.
Never knew there was a video for this song. I had it playing on a random playlist here and then clicked and saw the visuals. Definitely fits the vibe of the track. Of course, I think Bruce also participated in the videos "End of the Innocence" and "I can't make you love me" in this same, eerie B/W color scheme. Also around the same years this came out.
aqui estoy toda la noche por delante en el trabajo disfrutando de tu hermosa musica , un maestro !!!!!,abrazos enormes desde villa gesell bs as argentina !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! saludos walter radowan

Welcome home brother.
I'm glad you made it. I hope your blessings continue.
So glad you're still with us! Isn't the power of music wonderful 😊
I've thought for so long that this was me too......thanks for still being with us.
Thank God. You are much more important than you realize. I've had 2 friends die from suicide. It wrecks everyone. Don't do it.
Hornsby is a genius. So many classic songs. Legend.
Indeed
I never realized until today that Shawn Colvin sang on this, too--great team!
The name of the lady please
My dear oldest son is a "Love Lost Soul". He is 31 and has recently moved back home. This song is inspirational to me and my wife.
I love this music, it is so peacefull and it gaves me power to go on with life, even if its hard, i love Bruce Hornsby's powerfull music
This song always makes me think of the man I dreamed of being growing up versus the man that I am. I often feel like the lost soul walking in between 2 worlds never fitting in completely in either.
As long as you have God, the commitment and reason to work towards being the person you want to be, you can become it
Yeah, me too bro. My adult life never amounted to much but at least I learned to know myself better and accept it all. And, as long we got music like this, life can’t be too bad. 🙂All the best!🙏

I think we are all lost souls from time to time. This song ever time I listen to it, gets to me.
Me as well! Beautiful!
We're all lost until we realize..JESUS gives us safe harbor....
Absolutely. Getting lost is part of the journey to finding our way.
The main business is to save our souls and get back where we belong. So Bruce is spot on.
Allot of meaning here
Your not human if this song does nothing to you. I cry when I play this song. What a talent!KEEP ON ROCKIN BRUCE!
It has done nothing to me. Still good though xd. Not touched. Not happy.
You know a song is good when it catches your heart. This is what this song did to mine.
+allsportsbandfan That old dog ruins it for me.
What a lovely song performed in a duet with such searching words and so much expression.
A real delight to listen to.
There is so much that i would like to say, but at 62 i want you to know that I am that lost soul and this song has truly blessed me! Steve
Gets me every time! So haunting, sad and beautiful.

First time hearing this today. Just thought I’d comment for you to revisit if you haven’t already. Take care!!!
so profound, Bruce's humanity is so apparent, and Shawn Colvin voice was a perfect choice for harmony
I love pulling up old favorite artists and listening to the songs the radio didn't play. So many missed songs. One of my new favorites💞
Listen to this every so often since I discovered it 9 years ago... it definitely resonates
I agree. Bruce is a rare and skilled musician. Great genius. Not many musicians quite like Bruce Hornsby.

"Lost Soul"
There was a man of confused and sad nature
Thought no one loved him, that was not true
He said he was a lost soul, didn't fit in anywhere
Didn't know where to turn or who to turn to
There's a lost soul coming down the road
Somewhere between two worlds
With an oar in his hands and a song on your lips
We'll row the boat to the far shore
Row the boat of love, lost soul
Ever since, oh, I can remember
We all tried to ease the pain
Took him in when he needed some shelter
Tried to make him feel he was one of us again
There was one day, oh, I can remember
He sat alone with a pencil in his hand
All day long he drew careful on the paper
In the end, just a picture of a man
There's the lost soul coming down the road
Somewhere between two worlds
With an oar in his hands and a song on your lips
We'll row the boat to the far shore
Row the boat of love, lost soul
Oh, dear Mary, do you remember
The day we went walking downtown
As I recall, it was in early December
After school had just let out
When I see you on the street in the twilight
I may tip my hat and keep my head down
You show me love, but maybe I don't deserve it
I've been called but not been found
There's a lost soul coming down the road
Somewhere between two worlds
With an oar in his hands and a song on your lips
We'll row the boat to the far shore
Row the boat of love, lost soul
Thanks for the lyrics!
Thank you …

What?
Got out of what?
Gran músico gran pianista maestro...grande
Just heard this song in a tribute video for Robin Williams. Fits so well sadly. Beautiful and heartbreaking all at once.
Great sound really makes a person think about life and how amazing it is. If not we become a lost soul. Mental illness and addiction takes our soul.
Beautiful song so moving
The lady just finishes the song with her vintage like voice, wow. One day just one day Bruce i will get to your league.
You witness pure music genius watching this .. the magic skills of Bruce with the haunting voices singing .
Bruce Hornsby & the Range, the very best from Brazil years 80.
This very song touched my gentle heart,i love this song

I heard them sing this song together at Wolf trap Farm Park many years ago. It ran chills through me..... Very moving song
So love Bruce Hornsby. This song speaks to my soul.
This is a fantastic song. Takes me back to my younger days in NC.
Hermosa interpretación hermosa voz de mujer muy bella canción.
She and Hornsby played it on letterman in '90 and it was great
I told her so on her Facebook page that she was great then and her recordings are great also all these years later.
Wow! First time hearing this song. Beautiful!

You're not the only one.....

What a great song! they´re both fabulous.
Yo aún mantengo en mi poder el cassette que compre de este grupo musical ....y me parece un lujo tenerlo aún ....
Someone out there who like piano, synths & the likes, could agree with my love 4 this kind of TUNE! BH&TR, sounds incredible in that way!
Love this tune, it sometimes sums up who and what I am!?
i'm not quite sure where i was when this song came out...over seas probably. i finally caught up to this little gem. lost soul has a very surreal sound to it. kind of an opposite to every little kiss, and the same vein as mandolin rain...haunting...
I feel sad whenever I hear this song, i remember my grandmother she died 16/11/2017, RIP, mammy, :(
Discovered this artist today. Glad I did.
All I can say is this is damn good song. You can the passion and sorrow for who they're talking about.
This song is like mirroring us in the mirror ... me too. Thank you, Bruce and greetings from Chopin's country
Masterpiece!
What a man total quality hero long may he give us such good music long live bruce.
old school day
Un altro capolavoro.....Brividi!!
All of us are souls looking for their " harbor" ...a security one or , at least , a place where you feel more comfortable !
Reminds me of a beautiful song by Rachel Holder, 'In Your Arms
yep..
I love this song even though it takes me back to 2004 when I was a lost soul most of that year.
Sadly I am feeling like a lost soul again since my Mom passed away 3 months ago.

Bellísima balada. Ambos la cantan hermosamente y además la música se lleva el alma.
