An underrated fact about this story is, the unicorn previously went well over a century without speaking before her quest. The main character in the short sequel even mentions she doesnt think unicorns can speak. But despite everything Schmendrick went through, the unicorn still spoke to him quite a bit, even in matters that probably seemed trivial to her. I just think it's neat, especially with how hard Schmendrick gets dumped on by some other characters. No other can claim they've had her participate in long conversations-- if you don't count her being human later on, and thus being more prone to speaking
