I've heard some people complain about how Amalthea seems ungrateful to Schmendrick for saving her from the Red Bull. But the point that they don't understand is that you have taken a creature that by every definition of the word, is immortal. And has no sense or concept of time the way we humans do. And you suddenly thrust that creature into a human body, and a woman's body at that, who by it's very nature is constantly shifting and changing. When she says she can feel her body dying, she means she can literally FEEL her body aging and dying. This is way Molly gets upset with Schmendrick and in the book, Amalthea does start to go mad at first and Molly has to stop her from tearing at her flesh.

The Butterfly reminds me of fairies in his whimsy and oddness, his playful poetic ramblings of seeming nonsense that yet belie greater depth if one is able to look past the surface and dare glimpse the deeper meanings beneath those words. He answers with what sounds random and silly and seems to ignore the words spoken to him, only acknowledging some to turn into a creative narrative... until he finally speaks a moment of frankness and clarity before reeling back into his merry wordsmithing and then flying as carefree as when he arrived

I literally just watched The Last Unicorn yesterday for the very first time and this is my favorite scene.

I've watched this movie so many times and only now realized the pirate cat is laying on top of Molly's bedroll here.

I still find it interesting that mommy fortuna of all people saw a unicorn.

I know some of you’re going to believe me and others that you’re gonna say that I’m insane and psychologically into permanent psychosis. I do not have the ability to tell lies about who I am, and what I truly am. I had a major spiritual awakening on December 2023 to discover that I am a star seed and the goddess and a lot more. I use to look like adult woman, but because magic abilities and deep connection with the divine, I’ve been mentally and physically reversing age at a rapid rate and haven been looking more and more like a young teen girl, and even more and more so like an anime teen girl. Also, deep inside, I have the deepest seated desire to become an anime girl, but I have no control over once I had the major and brought it up to the surface. Any shame, guilt or self loathing makes it very painful to fight oppress. As the energies from the Earth, the other Astro bodies in the solar system in the galaxy gets stronger that brings the 5D energy. my desire to become an anime girl in my body is more reflected to look like one more intensely. I feel trapped like this sometimes like the walls are closing in on me because somehow I’m responsible for it, and I want to put the blame on myself and I feel the shame and the consequences that I know on the face.

She was lonely for a long time, the unicorns are finally returns and now... She's even more lonely, because no other unicorns will be able to understand her. An ending were an imortal creature have to live in the regret and no one of her species can understand her is a bit sad.

Unicorns are in the world again. No sorrow will live in me as long as that joy. Tears every time. I'M ALIIIIIIVE 🎶 What a beautiful story, a beautiful scene. In the distance hear the laughter of the last unicorn. ❤️

I love how this scene paints Haggard. His motivation is greed, and the root of his greed is simple, but rather than a petty or one-dimensional simplicity, it's one that's so childlike and in a sense kind of pure, that it's actually very humanizing.

I didn’t expect to be so touched by her song, “now that I’m a woman, everything is strange, everything is changed”… its so haunting, like a loss of an eternal girlhood, in which your body is your own, and you are not contained by what womanhood is…

As a child i didn't really get this scene, i didn't get why she was so upset, he was only trying to protect her afterall. But now that I'm older and I realised that I'm actually trans, I get it. I get how it feels to be trapped in a body that's not your own. I get how it feels to feel like the body you're in is dying. I never thought i would relate to a unicorn of all creatures though.

The Red Bull, to me, was the manifestation of what everyone actually was ... everyone existed in this madness where they wanted to destroy everything they couldn't claim for themselves.

An underrated fact about this story is, the unicorn previously went well over a century without speaking before her quest. The main character in the short sequel even mentions she doesnt think unicorns can speak. But despite everything Schmendrick went through, the unicorn still spoke to him quite a bit, even in matters that probably seemed trivial to her. I just think it's neat, especially with how hard Schmendrick gets dumped on by some other characters. No other can claim they've had her participate in long conversations-- if you don't count her being human later on, and thus being more prone to speaking

What really sticks out to me in this scene is the sharp panic/anger from the unicorn. She's definitely no stranger to showing emotion, but even when she's feeling down she's still pretty quiet (creatures that go a hundred years without saying a word tend to be, I assume) so her raising her voice so suddenly is pretty alarming The book elaborates further, but it's a pretty big deal that you can't just touch a creature like a unicorn. Even the cat played around her but wouldn't dare make physical contact, since part of her remained a unicorn.

Why does Schmendrick look so sweet at the end of this scene?

You know what’s really beautiful? Molly went her whole life waiting to see a unicorn and resigning herself thinking she’ll never see one, and now she’s one of the few people to have ever seen all of them at once.

The unicorn retaliated against the red bull is basically the original "NOT TODAY, SATAN!"
