This raag is technically Bhimpalasi, except that it has a slightly different Vadi - Bhimpalasi has Pa, this raga has Ma.. The Thillana composed by Maharaj Shri Swathi Thirunal in this raga (it goes like - Geetha Dhumiku Thaka Dheem) is a Super Hit Composition..
Agreed, Bhimpalasri and Dhanashri are perilously close to one another to the point of being almost indistinguishable ! Extending the example from Gagan mein thaal……. Geet dhuni ku taka dheem and the immortal Tagore song Bipulo torongo rey…… notice the tonal similarities with “Padmanaabh tumhari leela” and “Taai dulichhey dinokoro chondro taara” !
