  • I was asked a few days ago how much wool was in my purple bag and if 50g is enough wool to buy for a project so I made a video to hopefully give you an idea of how much wool to order for your needle felting projects.
If you like videos like this please dont forget to come back every Wednesday for more BenMcFuzzylugs needle felting supplies reviews.

when I first started I used synthetic polyfill toy stuffing as a core too that is cheap as chips I think I got 1kg for 6 quid but now I use 100% wool and I felt really firmly so I think how firm you felt affects the amount you use, on the piglet I made which was a foot tall and a real life looking piece I think I used 200g easily but it was a big piece and felted very tightly. For first smaller pieces that are felted softer I think you are right and 50g will do a project. If you grow to like it and start making big pieces and selling them then you will end up with a couple of bin liners full lol but to start I agree it is safer to buy maybe a small kit that does maybe 10 colours of 5 or 10 gram balls.Lots of kits around like that and a lot contain a foam pad, needles and finger protectors within the kit too.

yes I have heard people using the toy stuffing, I havent tried it yet - but the majority of my items are about 3 inches tall :D
I didnt reallise your piglet was a foot tall, that is amazing :)
and yeah I think Im well over a couple of bin liners of fleece - I have it spread over 2 rooms, Im kind of scared to see it all in one place

you can use the toy stuffing to fill out the armature it felts really well with the needle then I used to just add a good layer of my main top coloured wool

Yes I imagine that would be really cost effective if you are making larger sculptures - also I keep bags of my trimmings when I do long haired sculptures just to pad out as well

Yes thats almost exactly how I make my curls - I let them dry overnight but otherwise thats how I make them ua-cam.com/video/twsxXOCpKhI/v-deo.html

Thank you so much! I was just wondering - where do you buy wool from? I have looked for it everywhere online and can only find wool for knitting in the UK. I know this video is from 2017 but if you see this (or anyone else who knows anything about needle felting) please let me know!

Most of my wool at the moment is from 'World of Wool' or 'Wingham Wool' but I am looking at other companies too. If you are in the US 'Felt Alive' is supposed to be quite good too

Is cardid wool in a strip like the tops.
I'm new, having a go a wool dreards. I need lengths of wool that I can cut the tops seems perfect 🙂 I'm just being nosey about the bigger bag xx
    Thank you ❤

It can be in a strip but more often it is like a fat fluffy sheet - but carded would not really work for dreads I dont think, everyone I know who does them orders tops
