I remember going on a mission trip to NO in high school. We were in line for like 2.5 hours trying to get some of these but when we had them we were hooked.
Ah, Cafe Du Monde. I know it well. I lived in the New Orleans area for several years back in the 90's and the beignets and chicory coffee are amazing. When family and friends visited we always went to Cafe Du Monde for the beignets and coffee and without exception they all raved at how delicious and unique they were. Such great memories.
Jolly was at Cafe Du Mond for the beignets. The beignets are doughnut like. Tasty when hot and fresh. Also, their coffee is a chickory coffee. It has a unique flavor and goes very well with the beignets. Cafe Du Mond is busy and fast paced usually with live music. New Orleans is a blast any time of the year. Almost any weekend has a Mardi Gras vibe on Bourbon Street. If you like great food, great drinks, drinking, great live music, dancing, and pleasant weather (usually hot and humid,) you've got to go!
Brennan's is a five star restaurant in New Orleans. Brunch is very casual and delicious. The dinner menu is luxurious and detailed. New Orleans has so many places dine and to experience the Creole and Southern hospitality. Gaynor will fit in well with that old British money line in her family. ;)
to hear an adult say 'ive never had banana pudding' is like hearing an adult say 'ive never worn a shirt!!!!' we are so much a like and so different. the english took over several spice producing country over the centuries, yet you dont seem to use them! there isnt a dish out there that spice or herbs cant improve! EAT MORE SPICES!!!!
Beignets don't usually have anything inside. Just fried dough and powdered sugar. But around my way in North New Jersey they had a shop called Bourbon Street Beignet that recently closed down. They had artisan beignets with stuff inside like apple cinnamon, s'mores, jelly, raspberry, blueberry, cookies & cream, cereal, etc stuffed inside. It was good, I'm sad it closed down.
when I went to school in San Francisco there was a soul food restaurant called Brenda's and they made both a savory crawfish beignet, but chocolate and cinnamon apple filled as well. Super tasty
It’s Cafe Au Lait, which is half coffee with chicory and half steamed milk. Community coffee is what we use in New Orleans. Beignets are pronounced ben-yeah and Cafe Au Lait is cafe-O-lay
@Zzachkk my bad, I just realized I can't spell. I 55yrs old and lived in Nola for over 40 years and I can admit that I was wrong. Well, maybe not wrong, but can't spell. It's coming out of my mouth the right way with a southern Louisiana accent. 🤣
Daz commenting on chef hierarchy: highly recommend Emmy winning television series The Bear, about a master chef and his efforts to open a five star restaurant.
I've been to Cafe du Monde and I didn't like the Beignets or the coffee, which is cut with chicory. But it doesn't matter--it's something you have to do in New Orleans. Bananas Foster is outrageously good. I'm not a fan of ripe bananas, but caramalized? Oh yeah! I make a mean bread pudding, but sometimes I find a bread pudding that rivals mine. I have to say, though, this is all New Orleans, which isn't exactly 'Southern' cuisine. It's a separate category, I think. Southern desserts have a lot of peach, citrus fruit, pecan, buttermilk, chocolate, etc., and very often include bourbon.
The way to get rid of the texture of the peanut butter on the roof of your mouth is to put a slice of lettuce on your sandwich. It will provides a barrier between the roof of your mouth and the peanut butter. Tastes great, too!
If Daz doesn’t like crowds, then Mardi Gras isn’t the time to visit. You definitely have to eat beignets when they are warm. Once they get cold, they get hard. When I’ve been to Cafe du Monde, and you want beignets to take away, you can only pay in cash. If you go to NO, try combining it with a trip to Baton Rouge to see an LSU football game. Baton Rouge is about 1.5 hours north of NO. If you plan to spend the night in Baton Rouge after the game, then book your hotel in advance. Hotel rooms in BR run about $110 - 150/nite with the big chain hotels. However, for Saturday night, if you book during football season, they shoot up to $450/nite. The $79/nite motels will go for $250/nite. Airbnb locations dry up, and hotels within an hour’s drive of LSU also shoot up in price and sell out. Surprisingly, hotel rooms in NO don’t increase. I learned this the hard way in Nov. LSU was playing Florida. Rooms at the Hilton were $110 on Monday - Friday and Sunday, but rooms shot up to $450 for Saturday if you booked one - two weeks before the game. It was also $110/nite if you booked weeks in advance. I spent Sat nite in NO, along with a ton of others who were there for the game. They told me this is common, which is why they stay in NO, and make the drive. Baton Rouge, like Tuscaloosa (AL) and Athens (GA), doesn’t have the hotel bed capacity to accommodate the large crowds, hence the spike in pricing.
As someone who wants to see the area probably definitely don't visit during Mardi Gras unless thats what you want to see. Otherwise it will be harder to get around at certian point. Not from there but I've visited both during and not. From Virginia in the U.S. if anyone reads and is wondering.
WHAT!!!.... never had peanutbutter!? Most Americans have grown-up with it. I can't imagine a world without peanut butter..... & jelly.... on bread, not that sweet candyass crap though. Real Peanutbutter rocks 🤘
I was sitting outside of cafe du mond one evening, just people watching, and I saw a movement out of the corner of my eye. I glanced over and was horrified to see rats running under the tables, now mind you, this was early evening and the cafe was packed. No one even acted like they felt rats running over their feet. I had been there that very morning, blithely eating beignets myself. I loved New Orleans and hope to go back one day, but I don’t think I’ll eat at the cafe again.
Peanut butter doesn't taste like nuts? Well that's kinda true since nuts is plural and peanut butter tastes like the only nut it's made of which is according to the ridiculous allergy label peanuts. Head Chef is the boss in the kitchen of a restaurant.
Y’all definitely need to go to New Orleans. It’s the most unique city in the US and has absolutely the best food. Be sure to get some crawfish etouffee and some chargrilled oysters. And try the muffuletta sandwich at Central Grocery.
I want to just try to pass along a word of advice. If millions of people across the world like peanut butter then it deserves a try. Don't simply dismiss something because you assume it tastes like nuts. It would not be a thing separate from peanuts if it was only the same. And similarly with bananas and particularly Bananas Foster,.if they are preparing a dish from bananas and millions have eaten it in their restaurant then just perhaps it's worth a try rather than assuming it's like any other fruit banana. Give people a bit of credit and first assume it's likely good.
I started to comment earlier but decided not to until you started to talk about chefs. You probably notice that Josh in particular "dissects" the food and how it is made. I always wonder if that has anything to do with his wife being on Master Chef or if it is one of the qualities that attracted them to each other.
At most New Orleans restaurants, the beignet are served with a variety of dipping sauces. Why are Josh and Olly so clueless about beignets being French. Louisiana is a former French territory. And, yes, New Orleans was named for Orléans, France.
If you go to Mardi Gras, be VERY careful and stay in a group, don't wonder off alone as it can be a dangerous place. I'm not knocking New Orleans but even the people that live there would tell you what I just did.
Mardi Gras is overrated. The parades I did enjoy were the smaller ones like in my town and other suburbs of New Orleans. Also, Bourbon Street is like a small scale parade all the time. Lots of characters lol. Lots of bars.
I'm sorry but bananas are absolutely delirious. The fact that you don't like them says a lot about your taste buds. It's like people who say they believe Donald Trump and that watermelon is disgusting. I can't take anything those people say serious.
Yeah "New orleans, Mardi graw" might be a little over the top. Drugs, topless women and sex fulled party goers. But you should still put it on your bucket list.
Trust me and millions others, beignets with a cup of coffee or tea is the best sweet food in the world. It’s perfect as is. I don’t even like desserts.
Apples and peanut butter is good and so is dipping apple slices in caramel very good. I’ve had banana fosters once and loved it.
I remember going on a mission trip to NO in high school. We were in line for like 2.5 hours trying to get some of these but when we had them we were hooked.

I commented to soon. Bananas Foster is frickin' amazing and my favorite desert. I miss it so much.
Banana fosters can be made at home pretty easily. Its very delicious. Rum and banana liquor make a fantastic sauce
lol I love that my state has had the most love on jolly’s channel. Louisiana we have the best food in the nation hands down

Just be careful at night time on Bourbon Street!

Is Commanders Palace still operating? I know the Brennan family owned it. The bread pudding at CP was always my favorite.
@@Hornsfan64 it should be. The last time I was in New Orleans it was still open. I could not see any reason why Commander’s would close down.
Beignets and Banana's Foster are both top tier!
Yes, Gaynor! Apples with peanut butter is my favorite snack.
I like when they say they don’t like something even though they’ve never had it
to hear an adult say 'ive never had banana pudding' is like hearing an adult say 'ive never worn a shirt!!!!' we are so much a like and so different. the english took over several spice producing country over the centuries, yet you dont seem to use them! there isnt a dish out there that spice or herbs cant improve! You don't like donuts, Daz? Whhhhaaaatttt??? lol ...you're never too old for Nawlins!!
I suggest a video of Daz trying a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Daz commenting on chef hierarchy: highly recommend Emmy winning television series The Bear, about a master chef and his efforts to open a five star restaurant.
Im surprised they didnt ask him to remove his hat in such a fancy resturant.
NOLA is very laod back. A city with a small town feel. Even the accent is similar to other major cities on the east coast, but slowwwwwed down.

its me again lol .. Daz you're not to old for the Mardi Gras . my grandma took me there as a kid . you will love it . not to wild

Ah yes, classic New Orleans “Bayonets”, the sharpest treat you can eat
We do love our guns! 😂
I’ve been to Cafe Du Monde and Brennan’s. I live in Baton Rouge, about a 1 hour drive from New Orleans.
WHAT!!!.... never had peanutbutter!? Most Americans have grown-up with it. I can't imagine a world without peanut butter..... & jelly.... on bread, not that sweet candyass crap though. Real Peanutbutter rocks 🤘
Beignets are delicious! ❤🎉❤
Btw Daz, I love cannoli too.
New Orleans used to be THE port for bananas. Sam Zammuray (basically started United Fruit) got his start there.
😂😂 16:15 Gaynor spilling some truth! Hahaha
Daz’s face at 01:22 😂😂😂😂
Please watch a video about Mardi Gras.
I love this man talking crap about my Americans. Some old vibes. We got them too. Love you guys
Daz has never had peanut butter?!
Mike needs to be alerted to this he earns out "get out of jail free" card.
I say bread pudding with whiskey sauce Daz. Great way to use up stale bread I've learned lol
Weird to hear that about not eating peanut butter. Being an athlete for my life and tours in the military, it's absolutely a must
I was sitting outside of cafe du mond one evening, just people watching, and I saw a movement out of the corner of my eye. Daz I think if you fry up an English muffin and smear peanut butter on it, it's really good.
I saw that Mardi Gras is a bad idea to head to those places.
I agree with people walking. Move or get out of my way. Moving sidewalks like at an airport are the worst.
Peanut butter doesn't taste like nuts? Well that's kinda true since nuts is plural and peanut butter tastes like the only nut it's made of which is according to the ridiculous allergy label peanuts.
Head Chef is the boss in the kitchen of a restaurant.
Peanuts are actually legumes, not nuts.
But seriously. Bananas Foster is the most underrated dessert there is. Not a huge fan of bananas either. It’s a must try
1:20 That's a great statement to boost English self esteem! 🏳🌈
The whole family hates bananas. lmao.
Y’all definitely need to go to New Orleans. It’s the most unique city in the US and has absolutely the best food. Be sure to get some crawfish etouffee and some chargrilled oysters. And try the muffuletta sandwich at Central Grocery.
Bananas Foster is solid gold ❤. I hate a plain banana but BF is amazing
Banana's Foster Yes please 😋😋👏👏
Ok, we need to have a “first time trying peanut butter” video.
G wants to earn some beads in New Orleans i think.. .. LOL.
Daz what’s cannoli cake ?? Is it actually a cake with cannoli in it or is it just a regular cannoli ? A chocolate chip cannoli is best ever !!!!

Gay - Brown spots mean they’re ripe 😅. No green for me. Haha
That’s when they’re good for making banana nut bread or muffins.
@@chrispavlich9656 they should have a lot more than spots when you use them to bake. But yes!
Time for office bloke Gaynor.
Daz try a peanut butter and banana sandwich
And coat it with a skim of salted butter on the outside and fry it in a pan to make ‘The Elvis’.
👍👍
weee the fun family is back with reactions . or i am the late one lol
Six inches! 🤣🤣🤣💀
I'm curious what southern Brits look like! Can there be a big difference in a country that size?
I think it’s the opposite from USA. The further north you go the friendlier it becomes in the UK.
lovely Gaynor . they say the brown part on bananas are the best for you . not me Dr. say it but i get why you don't like that part
Banana bread
At most New Orleans restaurants, the beignet are served with a variety of dipping sauces.

Popeye’s chicken did Nutella beignets for a short time in 2022.

You've got to eat beignets while they're hot. they don't hold up for long.
WHY DO BRITISH EXPECT EVERYTHING TO BE STUFFED WITH SOMETHING
I’m watching people react to people reacting to food. Strange times. Too many degrees of separation.
Second! 0:17
Stay away from New Orleans during Marti Gras. Trust me.
3 third in line

Oh god people walking too slow in front of you is so annoying...piss or get off the pot.
