You just can't keep a 5 land hand with no 1-2 drops. That doesn't make any sense to me. The deck has 23 1-2 drops. You can mulligan and your chances of hitting are very high.
Feels like in the end of game 1 you should be drawing at sorcery speed, especially since you had a bunch of green 1 drops that'd let you get a card deeper for the unsummon.
In some turns you definately should have attacked, and you did not, just because you could not kill your opponent in one turn........ You don't always have to kill them in one turn Seth ^^
I'm playing a very similar deck on Arena. Tip: less lands. WAY less lands. I think I'm running 21? And I still get flooded between Adept draws, Kumena draws and explore draws.
explores first time, sees creature, puts it on graveyard, explores second time, finds a land.... he should have realised that he should have only explored it into the graveyard on the second try as that would be a garantueed second counter.
That god pharaohs gift player was pretty bad... They could've had turn five gift, would've ran over this fish draw if he knew what he was doing :P it shouldn't have been that close
Yeah, part of the reason he got banned is because he made two land drops in a turn and when someone called his out on it he said "two explore" (and Jadelight Ranger explores twice).
Hi Seth, what about a deck that contains counterspells only? Like a Lullmage Mentor Merfolk deck. Here is a list with all modern counterspells: deckstats.net/decks/39584/899256-list-of-all-counterspells-in-m/de
Ya see, this matchup is kinda funny as I’m currently playing Esper GPG but I’m also building my own version of U/G merfolk in standard. I play tested a bunch and merfolk has the better matchup. It’s extremely fun to play. Not quite sure as I’m definitely not a standard guru, but it seems a bit more synergistic than this build. tappedout.net/mtg-decks/18-01-18-sle-standard-ug-merfolk/?cache=2018-01-19%2001:14:30.716594
rene ziesig Deeproot Waters is unfortunately a trap. Merfolk is best built as an aggressive, tempo driven deck and taking turn three off to get what amounts to increment value after casting more spells is way too slow. It does work well with Kumena but hurts the deck as a whole.
It might be fine in the board if a counter-heavy control deck becomes relevant; get that down when you think they're on just Essence Scatter and either they counter it or you get value even if they counter your fishfolk later. But that's making a lot of format assumptions.
I don't usually comment since I'm not that great of a player, but you played this deck horribly. Missed attacks with Kumena (unblockable) poor sequencing on the draws with Kumena, missed attacks to stay in alpha range...just bad.
Aggressive deck full of explore creatures...keeps 5 land hand.
I'm so annoyed by his playstyle. It's like does this on purpose...
Matthias Binzel I think he does....
Matthias Binzel agreed
This entire match was cringe worthy.
How do you get "chupacabra" right but "bomat" wrong
He pronounces Bomat wrong on purpose (most of the time).
maxiewawa he does it on purpose...
Where's the cool thumbnail?
KOO-MEH-NAH. NOT Kyoo-mah-nuh. That isn't even close to right. Please, Seth.

This deck does not really seem like what an actual merfolk deck should be
"Ku-MEH-na" not "Ku-MAH-na" grrrrrr
meh
lol, normally I dont mind his mispronunciations, but this one does urk me.
Kuhmana-matata ? xD
Too few lands on turn 3 for the real Bertoncini
Adam Session more like Bertoncheaty amirite? #2explores
Dyslexiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Seth is so dyslexic.
he puts the sexy in dyslexia
ENOUGHT IS ENOUGH!
I've had it with these merfolking merfolks on this merfolking plane !
I really hope we can see a modern build of b/g merfolk sometime. With kumena it seems like it could really get going now.
In some turns you definately should have attacked, and you did not, just because you could not kill your opponent in one turn........ You don't always have to kill them in one turn Seth ^^
Ahh, the RNG of shuffling, you're guaranteed to get flooded to hell if you run low land count, and mana starved if you run a tonne.
Much Abrew About Land Draw... This literally made me cry with laughter.. Shit happens to me FREQUENTLY!
Hahaha merfolking around ...😂
Or merfucking ;>
I'm playing a very similar deck on Arena. Tip: less lands. WAY less lands. I think I'm running 21? And I still get flooded between Adept draws, Kumena draws and explore draws.
If you are going to bottom a spell pierce (game 1) on the scry, you probably should have sided it out....
sorry, game 2
I think that Spell Pierce can be good in the matchup, just in that specific situation we really needed more Merfolk to start drawing with Kumena.
I feel like 24 lands is too much for a deck with 4 at the top of the curve
16:34 alright deck, you can stop now LOL
You should've kept the speaker
I wanted to play kumEna in my ug folk, but i must try this kUMANA now.. and also KUMANA'S Speaker..
Scavenger Grounds needs to be in here if not the graveyard dino.
No thumbnail art? I feel sad inside.
Edit: Aw Yesss it's back!
Side in the expertise and bounce tokens/gpg?
Im convinced Saph is the nerdier alter ego of Matt Pat...
I can't believe how much you were flooding the entire match with a 22 land deck. I guess it's a flavor win if nothing else.
explores first time, sees creature, puts it on graveyard, explores second time, finds a land....
he should have realised that he should have only explored it into the graveyard on the second try as that would be a garantueed second counter.
I feel like you should've sided out a couple of lands out after game 1. Maybe one. Two tops.
You could also have made Kumena unblockable. Damage and STILL drawing or pumping the team without giving loot triggers to the opponent.
No thumbnail :(
What set is this qumana card from? Is it from the intro packs?
19:40 There is no such thing as drawing to many cards 😣
thats only true if you have a lab maniac
-Quote on tombstone of guy who decked himself.
Seth, so what was that reference at 0:49?
Where is there a “Q” in kumenas name?!?!
That god pharaohs gift player was pretty bad... They could've had turn five gift, would've ran over this fish draw if he knew what he was doing :P it shouldn't have been that close
Like Alex Bertoncini? What about him? Just him being dci banned?
Yeah, part of the reason he got banned is because he made two land drops in a turn and when someone called his out on it he said "two explore" (and Jadelight Ranger explores twice).
were are those lands from?
What in the world where you thinking keeping a 5 land hand with two 3-drops in an aggressive deck :'D
Kumena is the best card in the deck, maybe one of the best in the set.
What the FISH deck!!!
Damn i was hoping for gifts ungiven
What’s this? A standard deck Seth is playing
Without field of ruin? Impossible!
silent gravestone is needed in sb
What happened to the thumbnail seth
Definitley too passive.
I thought this was modern vs esper gifts ungiven
thumbnails are broken
2 EXPLORES!
Seth would play Murfolk just to draw cards lol
why u threw away Kumena's Speaker??? WHY??? it's a 2/2 when u cast it *sob sob
nissa is very good in this matchup
Q-mana? I would assume Ku (Koo or Kuh) Me (Meh) Na (Nuh)
What happened to to thumbnail art?
Could of won game one if you tapped right, hashep oasis then tempest caller...
Koo-Men-Uh

i guess its a mistake to not play the merfolk token generator (entchantment). it fuels kumena so heavy

Rip thumbnail anyone?

Q-mah-na? Q-mah-na's speekeer? ._.)/
But "Miss-binder" was nice c;

Opt x 4.
No offense Seth, but you are not a great standard merfolk player :/
