I am interested in weight training. I just turned 75 and am not very active, basically walking. In my 40's, I had a personal trainer at my local YMCA in NH. I was able to bench press 90 lbs before I stopped my training. Big mistake! I live in upstate NY (Fort Edward) and am interested in starting weight training again.
Find a good local gym and talk to the leader to get a good, experienced weight trainer, especially, suitable for elderly. Approach your goal very slowly. Perhaps, you should start with general exercises first, to get into shape suitable for weightlifting. Consult with the trainer and good luck. I am a year older than you but exercising in gym regularly and for a long time by using weights, but not weightlifting. I was introduced to weightlifting just recently after a trainer showed me few exercises and I like the challenge weightlifting presents. I think it strengthen my back as well.
