Crystals are pretty stones. If you love them as rocks because you like stones there is no issue.. On the other hand the rise of paganism in this culture understandible given the loss of Christianity
There is the issue is of St. Hildegard of Bingen, who was known to use them for healing benefits, she was a well renowned scientist of her time, a great visionary and widely, even unanimously esteemed by the Church at the time.

hey Father I had a quick question, I have a friend getting into crystals and I want to understand more how I can defend my faith because they explain how crystals are natural so there created by God, therefore it's good and their more so connecting it to the faith saying how it's okay and to use them for their "energy" would love some feedback.
You can never go wrong looking at the Catechism. I would suggest looking at where it talks about offenses against the first commandment. Of course the first recourse has to be to prayer and penance for your friend. God bless.

If someone is using them for health issues and is a devout Catholic how can this be wrong? I am really confused! I think the burden is now on the church to explain this one. As I mentioned in the video, there are no known actual benefits to "using" crystals for healing and such a practice looks for spiritual healing apart from God, therefore Catholics should refrain from such practices. Ancient and Medieval christians saw certain stones as having actual physical benefits (Aquinas, Hildegard, Augustine, Albert the Great etc.) The reality is that their understanding of the substantial properties of these stones was simply incorrect ( they saw them as valid medical treatments or things God could use). However, none of the above saints would argue these stones have power in themselves apart from God, which would be a first distinction between then and now. A second distinction. Today those same saints would agree that those stones are unlikely to produce anything more than a placebo effect and thus it would be either physically silly or spiritually dangerous to use them.
