I’m trying to keep my pond at 26 degrees Celsius as I would like to keep large amazonian fish (dream would be a redtail) if the pond is insulated heavily (foam insulation underneath and in the sides of pond) and has a lid, would the cost stupid money to heat my pond, pond is around 10 feet x 10 feet x 2 foot average depth
What would be the minimum temperature we should have for a koi pond during the winter months currently my minimum temperature is set at 12 degrees. Thank you
@@richieremo1 this video is 5 years old. The model proved unreliable. All pond heaters can be expensive to run. Insulation and sensible temperature settings are the only way to minimise costs.
My findings are running costs about 5 quid a day roughly...videos like this are very misleading lee as you make it sound brilliant? And good value for money.glad I watched another guy giving a detailed opinion and meter reading of running costs before I dived in with my cash.😊
@richieremo1 Never ment to mislead anyone. However the cost of running a heater can be extremely expensive and I have made other videos since this that have made this more clear. There are more efficient heaters available such as heat pumps however they cost a lot up front and may never return the savings to cover the purchase price. This is of course depending on usage. The inline heaters such as the one in this video are only suitable for occasional use and should be considered effective only to stabilise the temperature and prevent the pond becoming dangerously cold. During a mild UK winter the heater may only be required for use Dec to Feb and with sufficient installation and a sensible temperature settings this can be achieved without massive costs. Anyone wishing to significantly raise and maintain a temperature well into double figures C should certainly be looking for a more efficient option. Thanks for the comment.
Hi Lee you have recommended cloverleaf heaters. My koi are very cold at 5 degrees n i feel sorry for them. Does the 1 kw model once installed run off 1 plug? Can i turn it off in the summer n leave it as part of my set up? Lastly i read one review where the person said the thermostat is wildly innacurate is that true?
Yes the heater will run of one plug. You can turn the heater off or remove it completely in the summer. The thermostat does not have to be highly accurate. The difference between 15 degrees and 18 degrees is of no significance. Hope this helps.
Hi Lee how much would it cost to run a 1 kw heater of this model to obtain 10 degrees? Your best estimate plz. This would be in a 5500 litre pond in northern england. I've got a cover on too. I worked out that 1000 watts used every day for every hour for one week would cost approx £95. 10 degrees is quite cool though so would this be less cost? Any advice would be brill thanks
Assuming that you pay around 20p per kilowatt hour. The most it could use in one week is £33. However it would be a lot less because it would not be running all the time. It's all about insulation. The more insulation you have the less energy needs to be used maintaining the temperature.
Hello! Can this heater afford to heat the 8 hectares mud crab pond? Because of the cold weather especially in the midmorning my crabs are dying. Thank you for response..
Do you actually have one of these heaters? If so, how long has it been running and is it installed outdoors? I had a Cloverleaf heater. 2kw titanium model. It broke after one winter. The part where the electric is, isn't waterproof. When it rained it would get wet and trip the house out. Also 1.5 metres is pitiful.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with one. We ran one our quarantine system without any problem. However it was covered and only used for 2 four month periods. I was impressed with the price and range of fittings supplied.
@@leecalladine The price is incredible. So much so, that I am considering getting one, despite what happened with the last one. The best thing is... It had a 2 year warranty but I bought it and left it in the box for for 18 months. So by the time I had it plumbed in, there was only 6 months left on the warranty. I must say, the man I spoke to at Cloverleaf was very pleasant. It was installed outdoors but I did ask Cloverleaf if that was acceptable use and they led me to believe it would be OK outside as long as it was fitted as per their diagrams. To anyone reading. The heaters in the video are 2 models newer than the one I have. So in all liklihood they are probably more robust.
It lives inside the filter house not inside the pond itself or out in the elements so being splash proof is all that's required, as stated it's "cheap as chips" so there needs to be some compromise don't you think and for around £170 it's very much cheaper than other brands
I'll be honest these heaters are not very cost efficient. I ran one of these for a year on a indoor tropical pond which was insulated and had a cover so it wasn't open. for the year it cost me £1500 on its own. so yes there a good heater, but very expensive..
Yes it could cost a very large amount of money to run a pond heater. It doesn't matter what type of heater you use it can cost a lot. If the temperature is set to a high level and the pond is badly insulated then it will soon add up.

Where can I perches one?
Hi Lee. I have a gravity fed system with my pump after the filter. can this heater be fitted onto the return pipe after the pump and UV?
Yes that is perfect. All in line heaters run in that manner.
What about the 4000 lph minimum flow ?
Are they submersible or do they have to be out of the water? Only asking as my pump is under water and therefore has no piping coming above surface
What would be the minimum temperature we should have for a koi pond during the winter months currently my minimum temperature is set at 12 degrees.
Thank you
I would recommend 10c if possible. That's achieved easily if the pond has insulation and you fit a small heater such as this.
@@leecalladine
Thank you
Can these be ran before a filter
do still do a water change at this time of year ?
most definitely. Water changes always a good idea.
Can I use this with my 3500 lph pump that goes into blue barrel diy filter just saw it needs 4000lph tho was wondering if my 3500 would work
Yes almost any pump will operate in line heaters such as these.
Where do you buy this?
What's the running costs when you tested it please??

Lee I’ve just bought a cloverleaf heater. I have an above ground small pond. Does the outlet pipe from the heater just hook into the water
The water has to be pumped through the heater.
@@leecalladine I mean after it come out the heater
Yes that's fine. It just needs to be returned by the way that suits best.

No. Heater would not work on a large pond that big.
Were can I buy one from and what's the cost thanks
We sell them at the Japanese Water Gardens Stapleford Nottingham. They are very competitively priced.
Can I use 1k watts in 1500 liters pond to maintain 30 degree celcius??
It depends on the ambient temperature and the amount of insulation used on the pond.
I want to buy it please send me online link

It is extremely important to set the thermostat to a reasonable level and invest in a good amount of insulation.
