Good stuff. As a long time bassist who woefully avoided working on any slap technique for years, these patterns in your vids have quickly unlocked a whole new voice for me.
bloody hell this was awkward at first but after a month or so im feeling pretty chuffed with myself thanks mate you`v really helped me improve on my speed
Still practicing this stuff.. Making good headway too. Thank you for your amzing videos. Im not naturally inclined to slap so its been challenging. Never could ve started it without your vids.
That is one brilliant breakdown. Not only that but your explanation is so smooth patient and you give us that feeling that we can do it haha ! You are brilliant thank you much great guy !
Thank you for finally taking the time to breaking this down in detail. I remember I asked you on your first video if you could. I am really looking forward to practicing this over and over and hopefully getting it down...again Thank you!!!
Thanks for this new advice ! Its a very interesting line and I tried to practise it like the old video, but made a faulty sequence after the two triplets before the slap-pop on the same note thing. It sounds funny, not bad I think, but I hear the difference... I think I got it now with the new video like you but the old fault is so much "inburned" that I cannot fix this if I play fast... Thanks for your inspirations !!
Excellent video, well explained and man you are fast. Having trouble with the last 2 minutes of the vid where you use your pinky for the top E then slap with fingers 2 and 3. Will keep at it.👍
Great tutorial! But that are no triplets but but straight 16th. Ahhh ... OK, just read your comment below. OK, but I still think it's a bit unlucky to change the definition of a well known musical term. I think "pattern of three" might be a better term.
@@cambridgebasslessons Aha! Damn haha... maybe that's why it only occurred to me after the fact that it might've been you, do you still live in/around Cambridge? I'd love to book a few lessons to get some hinters on improving my slap bass technique, and also seeing if you might be up for playing in an upcoming project (pop/fusion) I am working on down the line.
Is it best to kp the action low or high when slap pop? just started to learn and find it be so much fun then Pic. Then again I've only been playing for a yr and believe it or not I'm more into punk and metal plus classic rock not really a funk guy but I see where it's coming from. Gd stuff
A lower action makes life much easier! If it's too low you'll get lots of nasty fret buzz! If the action is too high slapping is virtually impossible. Hope this helps
i admire your speed and all but when u go first part // triplets pluck hammer on slapp x2 plus e empty it ends on free e or e and a mute /but that palm mute when you play fast is important / wery since without no speed that you can get with it a count is same but riff ,,weight ,,shifts a bit SO QUESTION ON TOP SPEED YOU PLAY E AND MUTE //SO 1 ,,TUPSOUND AFTER E /MAY IT BE SILENT BUT IS THERE ON RHYTHM COUNT SO //PLS DO IT AGAIN SLOW AND CONSIST
YOU ARE THE BREAKDOWN THUMP POPPING STRING SNAPPING DOCTOR OF THE LOWER FREQUENCY AND YOU SHOULD BE ON THE 4TH PLINTH AT TRAFALGAR SQUARE 4 ALL 2 PRAISE ....HEALTH + PEACE 2U AND KEEP A SENSE OF HUMOUR:O)
Why is it that when, with my left hand fingers, I come down with the slap I don't get that "crack" sounds? I think my action may be a little too high. When I slap with the thumb it's there. The pluck with the right hand is fine. It's just the fingers against the strings with the left hand that has almost no sound.
If your action is too high, the left-hand hit is almost impossible. Lower your action and over exaggerate the left-hand movement, really hit it, like your slapping the back of your hand
@@cambridgebasslessons Mr. Cambridge, thank you for your reply. Just adjusted it a bit and I've got quite a bit more crack under my fret hand. Thanks from California. Hope your keeping your wits about you during the viral apocalypse
Super cool line and nice explanation but you're not actually playing any triplets. You're playing all 16ths with the odd 8th note here and there (you're starting E usually) it feels off because you're playing a polyrythem (that 6 note grouping you're talking about over 4) but it's all straight 16ths. A couple times when you show the grouping by itself you play it as a group of triplets but when you're playing it as the whole line it's 16ths
Good stuff. As a long time bassist who woefully avoided working on any slap technique for years, these patterns in your vids have quickly unlocked a whole new voice for me.
Glad to help!

Maestro
Why now all tutorials are in slap instead of musical ones? I can come up with my own slap ones
how do you get a left hand hit without actually making notes by hammering on effectively

MONSTER STYLE BASS SLAPPING ...
great, how high do you adjust the strings? the strings are always hard or very fretted
It helps if the action is low. Lighter gauge strings also help if you want to play really fast!! Thanks for watching
