      🌟HAWG! True, but I’m not feelin’ waiting to eat it. 😂 And it has to be cooked properly before being put into the fridge.

      🌟HAWG! I’m sorry I meant COOLED properly. Giving it an ice bath to bring the temperature down before refrigerating it. I showed that in this video ua-cam.com/video/mjwiw0oBUG8/v-deo.html skip past roasting the okra to see it.

    I cook your Gumbo recipe every year for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Every year it is a huge hit! Our friends and co workers love it. My husband and I are active duty Army, so we move around a lot. Many times we have Soldiers who can't go home for the holidays. This dish really makes them feel at home. Especially, the ones from the South. Keep doing what you're doing. I love your channel and it helps bring joy to many people who are finding homes away from home ❤🤗

    Gal, you got it going on!! That looks delicious. My wife is Mexican and I always envisioned she and I making a dish to go with all my country folk in virginia at holiday time. My Gramma just passed at 93 a couple weeks ago - she was like the matriarch - wouldn't tolerate change.... But this would be perfect. My wife and her family already make"posole" , a Mexican stew or soup with seafood. I think yours is great.

      Look up posole.... Hominy, pig feet, veggies, and whatever else you want really. There's a white (chicken broth or stock) and a red - seasoned heavily.... But all good with so many ingredients. Avocado on top, plus lime.... But your gumbo looks perfect. Enjoy.

    Great video! Not too wordy and 'praisy'. Makes me SAVE TO WATCH AGAIN, WHEN I cook it. I'll give it a try and share it.❤❤❤

    My nephew wants Gumbo for our Christmas dinner so I'm glad I watched this video to give me a different way to prepare the okra. Thank you.

    I’ve been so scared to try to make gumbo but this recipe makes me want to give it a try

      Erika Coleman I used to be petrified myself. The first time I made the roux it smelled like burnt popcorn but it tasted normal-weird I know lol. I’ve been perfecting my recipe for three years and now I can make it in my sleep. And my roux doesn’t smell burnt anymore lol. Just try it out and over time you’ll get better and better I promise.

      Erika, you can do it. Just cut the recipe in half and ease yourself into it.

      Appreciated the relaxed narrative that you use to discuss the ingredient prep & assembly of the dish. Make a seriously fabulous Gumbo myself. Born & raised in Chicago...by many roux making relatives.

    I'm from southern Louisiana and the first thing taught as far as cooking was grits, Second fabulous thing was Gumbo. Great job, turned out great I see. Pay attention people this is how it's done.

    That looks so good. I can't get with that slimey Okra either

    • @NecrochildK
      @NecrochildK 3 роки тому +2

      Typically, you cook gumbo long enough that if you're using okra, it cooks the slimeyness out of it.

    This updated recipe is EVERYTHING! My first time make gumbo I used your first video a few months ago and that turned out really good. I made it a few times after that. Then today I saw this and made this with the updated recipe and I absolutely love it. I liked the idea of having the chicken browned and placed in the pot instead of the oven. I also love love love the Liquid Grab oil as well. Thank you so much for this and keep up the good work.

    My youngest daughter and I came all the way from Seattle to Los Angeles, to spend Christmas with my oldest daughter. She wants me to teach her how to make gumbo. You gave some great tips that I can’t wait to try today; and helped me to remember a few more things we need to get. Happy Holidays! 😁

      STL CHIC Not really, I lost the clip of the flour hitting the oil but you saw 2 clips of the roux going from one color to the next.

    THANK YOU for telling us the pot size! nothing worse than buying and prepping all the ingredients that look like they will fit and then trying to reduce a recipe or have it spill over. You are an angel!
