    Well done video! I'm an "experienced" DIYer and needed some info on the bottom and side block install. Other videos on UA-cam simply didn't show that, but this one fit the bill perfectly! Many thanks!

    These home improvement and DIY videos are such a useful tool. I've not done glazing but I wanted to see how it is done. Not only does it cut costs but it also helps people acheive things they didn't know they could.
    I've learned a lot from watching these videos. I managed to do the laminate flooring in my home and box in some pipes in my bathroom.

    Love the instruction, it looked to me like mission impossible to replace a thermo panel, with this video, at least I know it is possible, and I may hire one to do it anyway, but I am more confident in what I am doing.

    Where can I order the replacement thermal pane?

  • @RSole9999
    @RSole9999 4 роки тому +1

    One critical measurement was neglected: the thickness of the pane assembly. Double pane, triple pane can be made with differing thicknesses of glass, so, if the replacement is not the exact same thickness, there will be a major problem. Too thick and those glazing stops won't go back in. That means, unless you know the thickhness in advance, you will need to remove the old glazing before ordering a new one.

    • @Kohltech
      @Kohltech  4 роки тому

      Good note, at Kohltech we have 3 widths depending on the window type. We suggest once you remove the glazing stops, sticking a business card between the sash and glass unit, marking the edge, and measuring that to determine glass width.

    Excellent video Kohler. I have Kohler windows and the top LowE sash on a single hung window has a blown seal so I need to replace it while keeping costs down. Your video is very thorough and incredibly easy to follow and will save me some money. Is the procedure the same for the bottom sash of a single hung window?

    Is there a tip or a trick to work from the inside only and cut through the exterior caulking - once the glazing stopes are off? I was thinking of use a heat gun the melt it, but don't want to warm the vinyl . My windows are very high up from the outside but easily accessible from the inside. I was also thinking of using a suction holder to pull on the insert to remove them...any ideas . thanks

    Is it normal that the flazing stops DO NOT come out?
    Are some thermal units "embedded" into the casement?

  • @TotalClarity

    Great video. Are there any online resources where I can buy the replacement unit? Local glass shops want about $250 for a 24" x 24" unit. The whole window this size can be bought at Home Depot for $110. Appreciate the help.

    There are many varieties of silicone caulking, what should be used to install thermal glass in a vinyl window frame?

    • @Kohltech
      @Kohltech  5 років тому

      We use GE Silicone II Window & Door Sealant here, but any strong sealant/adhesive made for windows and doors work. You'll want it in clear.

      Thank you so much for the input. My 27" x 8" thermal glass/vinyl window accent pane cracked for no apparent reason (I thought perhaps it was the waterbed in the room above). The broken window unit had no spacer blocks, and there were 2 types of caulk (one was very tough and still sticky 20 years after construction). I couldn't find any real guidance on the right caulking properties for this specialized application.
      The waterbed was long gone when I removed the thermal unit, and I found plenty of clearance in the vinyl frame. The break happened on a cold day, and the entire double window assembly seems to have been jammed into an undersized framing pocket. That pane could have been badly replaced (wrong caulk) by the builder during construction, with poor installation and added thermal and mechanical stresses. Who knows, but now caulking won't be a contributing issue to failure!
      Kohltech window construction appeals to the engineer in me. I really appreciate the advice from a manufacturer, and will look for your products when I can finally replace the "builder special" windows in my home.

    why does the caulking only go up 6 inches on the sides when replacing? (4.25 min mark on video) Why not all the way around?

    So he just did the "Fixed" side.
    Is the crank out the same?
    Why not do the crank out?
    Not all crank/casements are equal.
    I think mine is factory sealed and can not be dismantled..

    This is a great video but it does seem to show how easy it would be to break into a home then replace the glass and no one would know. Locked room mystery plot!

    • @Kohltech
      @Kohltech  5 років тому

      not really as the glazing stops are normally to the inside of the window/sashes

    • @wade5941
      @wade5941 5 років тому

      Problem is you would have to break into the home first to get to the window. And you would need an accomplice to hold the window. And the noise, how do you muffle the noise. And loud cursing when things don't go smoothly. And the dog barking... Columbo would nail you before you got the stops out. Maybe not such a mystery after all. But, at least you're thinking.

      you should be able to Google "glass repair" in your local area and they should be able to help you or point you in the direction of someone that can supply you the thermal units.

    make sure you open your thermalpane from the crate BEFORE starting any removal of trim. They packed the crate with standard crate staples and ONE DECK SCREW. if you have ever tried to pull out a deck screw you would understand, long story short, broken pane sucks
