For me, Johnny's playing shares a stylistic approach akin to Hendrix. What im referring to when i say that is the extremely expressive sonic palette both guitarist's employed to enrich their respective music, its not always about notes, chords and scales but a broader embrace which includes the noises of the world, emulating machinery sounds say or the firing of a machine gun that make you ask yourself "was that a guitar making those noises" Soundscapers!
Johny didn't think of that. It's part of spanish/hispanic guitar playing repertoire, specifically rhythm playing, "rasgueo", which is done pickless. Geez, the amount of uncredited techniques I've seen makes me wonder. But you know what makes me wonder more? How you (electric player) guys think these techniques are hard. That's coming from someone who has studied Spanish and classical guitar as base. I did play electric and did so for decades, too.
Dont see anything special about it whatsoever..its typical greenwood style.... lol its laughable actually that this dude seems so in awe.... go listen to someone like Eric Johnson..for 2 mins...and then watch what both his hands do on a fretboard .....it makes us players who have been playing guitar semi / pro for 35+ years have our mouths drop in awe at the sheer unbelievable skill which takes weeks of practice.. n here we have a video where greenwood is reverse picking.. with his thumb nail...- which is used in a much more sophisticated sense in every repertoire by flaminco and spanish classical guitarists ....wooptii doo for this doofus in the video finally working something so simple out... and posting a video about it
this slinky sound is so iconic, such a cool touch to the song. nice upload, joe!

Soundscapers!
johnny is crazy when it comes to music
he really gets alot of textures out of his electric guitar
I noticed this first listen. This one of the things I love about radiohead. So many layers to the music.
I love seeing Fender Starcasters
He does the light version of this on No Suprises. Love how you can hear him master his techniques. (Another example is Identikit -> Thin Thing)
Thank you for giving us some of Johnny’s secret sauce 🙏
OMG THANK YOU IVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT FOR SO LONG
Ahhhh ive been scraping the wrong way! Absolutely love the noodly meandering guitar on this one.
Wow I have been wondering how he got that crackle sound. Nice.
that is one of those techniques you might not even hear in a mix Live. Neat for Recordings though.
I only noticed it now 😳
Love it. Also, I have that guitar, it's awesome!
Wow
Always wondered what made this
Do you have a tutorial for the whole songv
Is it muted while you scrape upwards?
@@jakeyboy2929 yep! And you’re basically not looking to put any more pressure on the string than to brush by it, so that nothing sounds out

Lmfaoo you are braindead. You sound like another one of those people who associate sheer complexity and notes played with musical quality.
Worst guitar playing I have ever heard.
