Hi y'all. Fyi, if you have Schaller locking tuners then the butler isn't installable as the string hole in the post is immediately above the nut, unlike the standard Gibson tuners where the string hole is higher on the post. Simple solve to try, instead of wrapping the d,g and b strings with one wrap above the string hole and remainder below so the last wrap is at the bottom of the tuning peg, try one wrap below the string hole then the rest above with the last wrap at the top of the peg. This allows the strings to slide over the nut easier, without binding. I got this tip on UA-cam and find its much much better than before, my LP Standard stays in tune in the main, without any gimmicks.

My Ibanez AR420 was very bad in staying in tune, the String Butler fixed that for me (and a GraphTec saddle). Now I tune my Guitar maybe once a week, and it is only a touch. Thumbs up for the String Butler.
Arne Brüning who the hell only tunes their guitar once a week?i mean tuning only takes a minute or less. It's the very first thing that you learn when playing guitar. Learn how to tune by ear and tuning will never be a problem. Unless the intonation is way off. My uncle didn't allow electric tuners in the house. He said it was cheating. I think he was right

You did not demonstrate a “control” sample (not String Butler doing the same bends). String elasticity also plays a HUGE part (certain bends will require elongating the string beyond the yield point, in which case the string will not go back to pitch).
Another gotta haves, the string buttler! I'm taking notes. Very educational video. I've learned something new again that is a definite need to know and a must have! I'll definately be ready form when I start taking lessons.
Darrel.. Realistically... the bends that "put it out of tune were not the fault of the guitar.. Strings are made of steel and will always stretch. And I do believe thats what put the pitch flat.. You sold me on giving this a try on my "17" LP standard.. It def had tuning issues.. I am amazed that this brilliant lil contraption works so well.. I have to say that problems tuning are 98% resolved.. The other 2% I have to believe are the crazy sharp factory LP saddles which I tried to resolve w a Schaller roller bridge.. Installed then noticed the funky radius.. The LP is a compound radius leading me to believe that the radius should be about 19"-22" radius at the bridge.. The Schaller is 12".. So..back to stock.. Which I dont believe is more than 14" radius if that.. Looks to be the same bridge that comes on every newer LP. Please give me your thoughts on the issue of Gibsons lack of a proper radius bridge for their newer compound radius boards..Thanks!!
Fantastic test, Darrell. Thanks. The string butler works because when metal slides against metal, the strings won't stick. But that leaves an obvious question: Why not just install a metal saddle? You might argue, that the strings would break easier, because of the sharp edges on the metal slots of the saddle. But you can just make the input side of the slots in a soft trumpet-like shape, while keeping the output side of the slots sharp. That'll solve the problem. This could also give a better sustain on open strings.

Darrell Braun Guitar . I put the babicz on the 2009 strat . The original felt a bit cheap but I also did it for aesthetics . Being really out of date on my technical skills it was a bit more than I was remembering to set it up. I still have to tweak it in . But it is built like a bull dozer and their support people responded immediately and even at off hours. I am up at all hours of the day working so I was surprised to get emails at late night hours. I was about to buy locking tuners for my epi, but now I realise that this wouldn't help the fact that I have to tune my G a lot. I will definately get it!
I figured out that if I tune all of my strings flat, give them all a small tug (to remove any slack from the headstock side of the nut) and then tune up to pitch they stay in tune a lot better. It’s a pain in the ass though so I’ll probably still end up buying one of these, can’t believe how long I’ve gone without realising someone has solved this issue!
I Salute You, Sir! i had no idea why my G-String kept going out of tune, but then saw this on a Used Guitar at Guitar Center in Houston... wtf... how did i not know about this device?
Bought one and I don't know if this is only for newer releases but they come with some thin plastic rings you put under the butler to save you from pressure marks.
Decent solution to this age-old problem - helps quite a bit, but it is not a 100% solution - I still do have tuning instability - but has said does help quite a bit. Would recommed the String Butler.
Darrell, I believe your demonstration has caused the manufacturer to raise the price on his device. After I watched your video I followed your link to Reverb and ordered the chrome butler which had a price of $48 and change. After adding the item to my cart the price changed to $57+. I was a little pissed at the numbers changing and ended up not ordering it. Fast forward to today - and the price is now $61.00! I have 5 guitars with the 3+3 headstock and adding this product now puts it out of my range. Is this just plain old greed from the manufacturer? Chris
+Chris Oh man, that sucks! I wonder if the price fluctuates with currency changes? That's the only thing I can think of. I know there are V2 and V3 and trem versions available. Were you pricing out a V2 string butler then added a V3 which is more expensive?
Darrell Braun Guitar Darrell, I just found out that if you go to Reverb directly and search for the String Butler both the v2 & v3 are $47.00 If you follow your link it shows a price of $61. Are you getting any commissions from the sale coming from your channel? If so, my apologies because I know how much work you put into your videos and you deserve to be compensated. Chris
I understand that in theory the Gibson headstock design is not ideal for tuning stability. However, I have 3 Gibson guitars that all share the same headstock design. I have never had tuning stability issues with any of the 3. Once the strings are well stretched they all hold tuning just as well as my Fenders. Maybe I’m just lucky and got some guitars that behave outside the norm, but I doubt it. In practice the Gibson design works just fine, at least in my experience.
Would it still work with vintage tuners with push in bushings since they’re a little shorter and the bushings are smaller? Would there still be enough for the String Butler to grab onto and hold without moving around?
Ok. The gadget seems to be very cool. Specially when the headstock of les paul type is poorly designed (my scheter is an example). A comparison with the same guitar with no string butler would be instructive.? Regards Darrell! Love your channel.
I just bought a Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's, It sounds amazing, but I notice some open chords aren't perfectly in tune. The string Butler appears to be the perfect remedy. Thanks for the great demo!
Some 75 bends later my fingers are sore, but my guitar is still in tune! :D

Ps your super strat video had inspired me to build one. In the makings of fantasy at this point but I am looking at a few brands but warmoth is leading the pack.
Do you have your guitars listed?
I see them in the background . Love to see them
Darrell Braun Guitar I think a good comparison of the Asian PSR to other guitars . To be honest when I took mine apart I was impressed by the wiring and shielding.
Pots and pickups could be improved but for the price they can’t be beat
That's awesome! Great mods ☺
How do you like the babizc trem setup?
Darrell Braun Guitar .
I put the babicz on the 2009 strat . The original felt a bit cheap but I also did it for aesthetics . Being really out of date on my technical skills it was a bit more than I was remembering to set it up. I still have to tweak it in . But it is built like a bull dozer and their support people responded immediately and even at off hours. I am up at all hours of the day working so I was surprised to get emails at late night hours. But it is well built and has great sound.
My 2019 super strat will use a Floyd Rose. I am thinking about that now. But I am super busy with the 4 guitars I am resetting up. 😱😬
I was about to buy locking tuners for my epi, but now I realise that this wouldn't help the fact that I have to tune my G a lot. I will definately get it!
Very good video. Thanks for sharing this information.
Thanks for the tip Darrell, im going to get one for all my guitars..
+John A No problem! ☺👍
Good on you Darrell. I'll be getting one ESP if the come in black. One great looking epi you have!
+Con Petropoulos Thanks Con!
Well I'm sold!
what a fantastic mod
2:46 "Rock solid"
I'm really impressed... with that string NOT breaking.
Hehe, I gotta get one 😎
I Salute You, Sir! i had no idea why my G-String kept going out of tune, but then saw this on a Used Guitar at Guitar Center in Houston... wtf... how did i not know about this device?
I like to call this device the “Nut Buddy”. Really lightens the load
You sir have just got another subscriber! Job well done on your videos. Thank you!
Really like the color on that guitar.
Great video as always!👏👌
Impressive stuff, thanks so much for posting this! Have you removed the String Butler to see if there are any scratches on the headstock?
+Now What1 Thanks!
I haven't removed it yet, but I suppose I should take a look ☺
I want to put a no on a standard Les Paul will it scratch my head stock
I'm also interested if it creates any marks on the head when removed. Thanks in advance! :)
I’m sold
Crazy, Gibson should consider using this system, making a contoured Les Paul, with min-E tune, neck volute, etc... a Les Paul for the modern player.
Darrell Braun Guitar
Darrell, I just found out that if you go to Reverb directly and search for the String Butler both the v2 & v3 are $47.00
If you follow your link it shows a price of $61.
Are you getting any commissions from the sale coming from your channel?
If so, my apologies because I know how much work you put into your videos and you deserve to be compensated.
Chris
+Chris Glad to hear you got the proper price! I'll update the link in the video description!
The price is a real shame... Actually, an outrage! I can build one for 5 bucks and some time ..price for this would be fair/ok at $30
Price is preventing me from buying it. I hear there’s and acrylic one in the works. I’d pay 20 bucks for either.
Build it, guarantee it, and I'll buy it from you at 30.
That’s some serious torture right there 😬😬😬😂😂😂
this + ernieball paradigm = endless bending
Would it still work with vintage tuners with push in bushings since they’re a little shorter and the bushings are smaller? Would there still be enough for the String Butler to grab onto and hold without moving around?
Man, my Heritage h150 goes out of tune when I look at it. I'll be getting this, thanks for the review!
Only Darrell can make a bend that high and not sound like an utter ear-pierce.
Ok. The gadget seems to be very cool. Specially when the headstock of les paul type is poorly designed (my scheter is an example). A comparison with the same guitar with no string butler would be instructive.? Regards Darrell! Love your channel.
If your nut is not perfectly cut, this device should help alleviate string binding at the nut.
Hey, that's my tuner!
+arcanics1971 Blue Snark owners unite! 😎
It's a Snark, it's EVERYBODY'S tuner, LOL.
I just bought a Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's, It sounds amazing, but I notice some open chords aren't perfectly in tune. The string Butler appears to be the perfect remedy. Thanks for the great demo!
No. Just take it to get a proper setup, intonation, and have the nut filed clean. It’s very likely a problem with the nut being sloppily cut.
I'm sold. I will have to look in to it for I have a 3X3 head stock on my Gretsch.
It would good to see another test in 2022 to see if time changes anything.
I got one and it works!
That guitar sounds good. I didn't mind the bends
this alone gives me the confidence to buy a les paul, i have played exclusively fenders all my life
Dear Darrell, thank you for this video. Could you please tell me which one of the two (V2 or V3) will better fit the headstock of a Gibson ES335?
