Ok, I called ICM and talked to a technician and he clarified something about that 4 minute delay, and he is right. If the a.c. contactor pulls in and sends voltage to the soft start and if it senses bad voltage like low, high , frequency not 60HZ etc it will go into fault. If everything is correct it will start the compressor within a few seconds. That's the way mine is working. My AC is close to the back deck where I enter the house and if I hear the contactor click , ill pause for a second and wait for the compressor to start if it don't the red fault blinks for 4 minutes. Most of the time it starts within a few seconds.
My ICM870-16A does not have a 4 minute start delay unless it detects a fault on the previous startup. Mine starts the fan and then the compressor right after that. Yours is flashing the fault LED.
would you be able to weigh in on any noise reduction as a result of the soft starter? My 4 ton AC has a pretty loud "click + buzz/rattle" at the moment it initiates. I was wondering if that can actually be alleviated with this ICM870-32A
So either way once you set the thermostat ac will not turn on for 4mins. That’s a long delay most thermostat already have a 4 min delay from restarting compressor
The microair has some very nice extra features but costs much more. I just received another brand of soft start that compares price wise to the ICM. I’ll make a video of it shortly. Also the air handler runs during the 4 minute delay. So it will take 2 on time delay units to make the ICM 870-32A work like I want it to.
I forgot to add the section in where I tested the amps before the install. You can see that on my other video where I test the ICM870-16A. It was 93 amps without the ICM.
Who the hell needs that? AC condensers manufacture haven't used or needed that for 80 years plus. New bullshit to sell! New Amana's 16 seer comm models suck!

The click won’t change because that is the relay engaging. The buzz and rattle reduced by about 25% on my 3 ton 20 year old Amana.

Or least can be set to whatever. The microair easy start is way to go. Seems like if that is not able to change.

4 minute wait for the compressor to start???
Plus that device is over $200 NO THANKS..
I saw 1 minute of the video and that's it. It's 120⁰ where I live. Who the fuck can be without the compressor for 4 minutes?
That's 4 minutes on to of the delay of thermostat

The soft start is great if you want to run your AC with a portable generator. That is why I bought and installed it.
