I’ve seen several videos from around the world people using those. They actually seem to work pretty well.
Watched some guys in California in a snow storm using these and rooftop tents.
Going to be some awesome videos in the future.

I have this awning and the walls. And its by far the best awning i have owned so far. Took a batwing off for this one from naturnest. We had it in 50mph winds so far and its a stout unit.

Yes absolutely
They sell two types one for the drivers side and one for the passenger side. Im worried about your roof and the paint. You are going to get a lot of vibration while driving. If there was a way to space your brackets up another inch or two. Or move it back more.
Thank you Sean I put a rubber mat between it in the truck it seems to work but I have a new rack that’s 23" that should get it up off the truck much better
