    Alec, your editing and videography (let alone your blacksmithing, which is excellent) are really top notch. The choices of music, and editing the videos so that the blows of the hammer or power hammer are in time with the beat make each one really engaging to watch. Keep up the awesome work!

    Thank you for this great video, your editing skills are quite impressive and this one is the best so far imo. Cheers.

    Hi, I'm 13 and I've always been fascinating by blacksmithing and your videos made me realize that I had the tools to start so I just want to say : thank you. The only tool that I had to get was the anvil but an old man who lives in my village gave me a ~200kg anvil from 1848 so know i can truely start and all that because of you, I hope you'll read this comment (I'm french so sorry if my English isn't perfect)

    You definitely! need to make a Katana now my friend!! Just imagine the beauty of a damascus blade in that style!! ...we all know you can do it😃😃

    • @lol49031
      @lol49031 7 років тому +7

      Traditionally made katanas are already damascus though

    • @MrHomerwilson
      @MrHomerwilson 7 років тому +7

      Lol49031 No they are not. Traditional katana are made of tamehagane steel smelted from satetsu iron sand from Japanese beaches. They use a tatara furnace to smelt the steel and divide the steel into kawagane high carbon steel for the edge and sides and shingane or low carbon steel for the bendable core of the blade. The edge steel is able to be honed to an extreme degree because it's hard, but it would shatter if the whole blade was that hard. The soft core allows for it to bend rather than break. There are also geographical issues with your theory. The last time I looked Japan was in the Far East of Asia, not the Middle East which is where Syria is.

    • @tinnyblacksmith3434
      @tinnyblacksmith3434 7 років тому

      lol49031 not really it is not pattern welded it's lament steal so there is only one line between the the soft Cor of the steal and the and the hard edge of the blade

    • @lol49031
      @lol49031 7 років тому +3

      I use damascus to refer to pattern welded, sorry for confusing you, tamahagane steel is still pattern welded to remove impurities

    • @lol49031
      @lol49031 7 років тому

      Katanas are laminated steel, said steel is pattern welded to remove impurities and to even out the carbon content

      Jacob Mcallister it's fascinating just how many people subscribe to the same channels. I love carpentry and timber craftsman work, which led me to begin researching steel work. Now I spend just as much time welding etc. as I do chiseling and sawing. Probably more, but only because I've had a bunch of projects I needed to do (like rebuilding an old box trailer for work).
      Matthias Wandel, Samauri Carpenter, Alec Steele's channel, Colin Furze and a bunch of others focussed around steel and/or woodwork.

Now I look forward to them whenever I get the chance to sit back and watch UA-cam. I enjoy watching your skill and technique grow with each new challenge. You have inspired me to venture deeper into my builds, (I'm more on the wood work side of the house) but I'm sure you have done the same with others in their own ventures. Learning that nothing is as satisfying as creating something with your own hands is a skill within it's self. People like you help others realize this. Great job man, and keep up the good work.
