This is awesome and you guys are both dope but... a Japanese chisel made in England for a Canadian samurai. There's something fantastic about that.
... I think they just gentrified something 😂
+sheldon winters pahahaha! Thanks man!
sheldon winters best comment
Agreed. How the digital age has changed our world....
sheldon winters cultural appropriation much
Does this mean Alec is in the Samurai Brotherhood now?!
Samurai Blacksmith?
Was there ever any doubt?
I love how he lined up the beats of the music with his hammer blows... beautiful cinematography!
+evilcanofdrpepper thank you sir!
I had no interest in black-smithing. I do however love watching beautifully edited videos and even before his channel started growing his video editing was on point.
Alec, your editing and videography (let alone your blacksmithing, which is excellent) are really top notch. The choices of music, and editing the videos so that the blows of the hammer or power hammer are in time with the beat make each one really engaging to watch. Keep up the awesome work!
Brilliant! It's great to see you hand-crafting tools for other traditional trades!
I'm using chisels as a woodworker and I was clueless about how hand-forging them looked like. I cant' wait to see the end of the process!
Thank you for this great video, your editing skills are quite impressive and this one is the best so far imo. Cheers.
You and the Samurai should keep collaborating, you guys are great at what you do, and you're both very entertaining.
Inspiring work as usual! Nice to see you linking up with Samurai Carpenter - two greatly skilled artisans working together, should lead to great things!
Absolutely awesome! A Japanese style chisel for a West Coast Canadian - from an Englishman!!! Way too cool.
Glad you two guys found each other. Keep up the incredible work!
Sweet! I came here from Samurai Carpenter channel! Great work Alec! I've now following you as well! I love talented makers and builders! Kudos!
It's amazing that you, as a craftsman, made
A beautiful tool for another craftsman to make beautiful things. You've broadened my horizon by giving shoutout to the Samurai carpenter and once again blown me away with fantastic and inspiring work, thank you Alec steel
this guys just seems so chill and humble! id love to just hang out with him for a day!
Hi, I'm 13 and I've always been fascinating by blacksmithing and your videos made me realize that I had the tools to start so I just want to say : thank you. The only tool that I had to get was the anvil but an old man who lives in my village gave me a ~200kg anvil from 1848 so know i can truely start and all that because of you, I hope you'll read this comment (I'm french so sorry if my English isn't perfect)
Dude that's awesome, good luck!
thanks
That great! It's cool that your anvil has a history. Now we need videos of your trip into blacksmithing. You can be the next UA-cam star!
Your english is fine! :D
thanks lol
I just wanted to comment on how much I enjoy the UA-cam craftsman community. You put in the effort to watch others, get in touch with them, and make some pretty awesome projects. It's a real treat to be able to watch the production of your collaborations, and see the influence you have on each other. Thanks for the awesome video, and I can't wait to see the finished product
It's so satisfying watching the scale come off the metal in that power hammer
Got me at BC, Japan! A Samurai's subscriber here, now a Steele subscriber. This is just beautiful work. Cheers!
You definitely! need to make a Katana now my friend!! Just imagine the beauty of a damascus blade in that style!! ...we all know you can do it😃😃
Traditionally made katanas are already damascus though
Lol49031 No they are not. Traditional katana are made of tamehagane steel smelted from satetsu iron sand from Japanese beaches. They use a tatara furnace to smelt the steel and divide the steel into kawagane high carbon steel for the edge and sides and shingane or low carbon steel for the bendable core of the blade. The edge steel is able to be honed to an extreme degree because it's hard, but it would shatter if the whole blade was that hard. The soft core allows for it to bend rather than break. There are also geographical issues with your theory. The last time I looked Japan was in the Far East of Asia, not the Middle East which is where Syria is.
lol49031 not really it is not pattern welded it's lament steal so there is only one line between the the soft Cor of the steal and the and the hard edge of the blade
I use damascus to refer to pattern welded, sorry for confusing you, tamahagane steel is still pattern welded to remove impurities
Katanas are laminated steel, said steel is pattern welded to remove impurities and to even out the carbon content
Video craftsmanship was top notch, editing to keep everything in time with the tracks added a lot to an already entertaining subject.
+hæwôôd thank you :)
two of my favorite creators working together? Hell yeah.
Sent here by the Samurai! Excellent video and incredible craftsmanship! Thanks for sharing.
Just the way you present your clips, and your talent for working with steel, you can't help but want to cheer you on and wish you much success. Great project!
This is the perfect marriage! I am excited to see what you two can do together. This is the reason UA-cam exists.
+Louis Lestini thank you Louis! I can't wait to see the handle he makes for it either!
Beautiful work which turned out to be a Beautiful Chisel. The Samurai Woodworker is a very lucky guy and I watched him sharpen it and make the fantastic black handle with silver inlay on it. He also made a brilliant leather sheaf for it which he died it to black. Peter
Fantastic!!!!! Way cool you guys are working together on this.
I don't just enjoy your content but I enjoy the way you put it all together. Keep it up Alec!
Love that you guys are doing a collab! You both have great channels, two of my faves!
Love your videos! You've inspired me to learn to forge
Alec, I might have said this before but it bares repeating. You are AWESOME!
Seriously, you're videos are incredible not just from the gift of you sharing your blacksmithing ability, but also the editing style of your videos are excellent! You are also seem like really great guy.
Great build on this one too. I have been watching Jesse for probably 6-8 months now and I'm sure he will enjoy using this chisel.
Your techniques and craftsmanship are really amazing!
Thats how i found you, I subscribed. You're not a old grumpy guy, so as you get older keep your same attitude you've got good energy. I'll be watching you from now on I'm a very interested wood worker, former heavy equipment tech.
beautiful work mate! keep up the good work. ive always dreamed of running a shop and getting into smithing
From the Boss of Steel to the Boss of Wood!! Makes sense! Looking forward to see the final result!
I'm in love with the editing you do on all of your videos. Seriously fantastic!
Great soundtrack. Awesome blacksmithing skills. Tremendous editing. What more could I ask for? Well done.
"...British Columbia, Japan..."
*Japanada
You are so friggen fun to watch. Articulate and entertaining. Skilled and exciting. You give Smithing a whole new meaning.
Always a pleasure to watch you work.
I absolutely love both channels, this is awesome thanks for doing it.
REALLY cool work....that goes for the steel and the video cutting !! loving this video!!
So glad I found this channel.
I'm new to this channel and I already love his smile!!
Your videos are very enjoyable and relaxing to watch, keep up the hard work man.
Alec your editing is phenomenal! Keep up the great work!
I love the samurai carpenter you both are the most amazing at what you do. loved your projects for as long as you have been on UA-cam
Jacob Mcallister it's fascinating just how many people subscribe to the same channels. I love carpentry and timber craftsman work, which led me to begin researching steel work. Now I spend just as much time welding etc. as I do chiseling and sawing. Probably more, but only because I've had a bunch of projects I needed to do (like rebuilding an old box trailer for work).
Matthias Wandel, Samauri Carpenter, Alec Steele's channel, Colin Furze and a bunch of others focussed around steel and/or woodwork.
was forwarded here by our favorite Samurai.....love your enthusiasm and obvious pride in your craft. two thumbs way up!!! Easiest sub! Greeting from Texas!
Glad to see you colab with the Samurai, I've been watching him for a couple years now and he's amazing. His tiny house series is awesome.
This is probably said all the time but Alec Steele is the best name for a blacksmith ever
just came over from the samurai carpenter and dude, your video production is incredible quality. Great cuts, music and love the sync between beat and hammer slams ;)
I have an interest and a small bit of experience in Blacksmithing. I really enjoy your charismatic personality! The projects you take on are very interesting and entertaining. Your efforts in cinematography and video editing do not go unnoticed. Thank you for what you do. I will continue to watch! I really enjoy the Samurai Carpenter as well. I think it is very nice when UA-camrs collaborate.
+Scott Lasher thank you sir!!!
I can imagine a collaboration between the Samurai Carpenter and Alec. Maybe a Steele Forged Damascus Tanto blade featuring a custom Samurai Carpenter carved wooden handle? a work of art indeed.
I just found your channel and I'm absolutely hooked! I don't blacksmith or anything I just find your videos very captivating :)
+Kylie Powell Thank you Kylie 😀
I dig the music in this video. As always, cool project and informative.
THANKS FOR DIRECTING US TO THIS CHANNEL SAMMURI CARPENTER. THE YOUNG MAN INSPIRES PERSISTENCE AND ENERGY!
Seriously, you must tell us now, do you do all of your own videography, because all the camera angles look absolutely stunning! Love your videos, mate!
Dude! Your a total bad ass . You collaborating with the samurai EPIC !!! Subscribed.
I heard about your channel from the Samurai's video. I just spent most of my evening watching your videos, amazing.
Never thought after having a new born baby that it would be your videos that keep me awake all night what an amazing talent you have I've built a tiny micro coal forge pretty pathetic but your excitement for your craft is infectious I would love to get into this craft you are a inspiration sir thank you
dude, he's going to love this!!! I love his woodwork. I'm actually learning some skills from watching him.
You sir make some amazing pieces. The work you do is absolutely impressive to say the least. I found your channel a short time ago, and at first I only browsed your videos. Now I look forward to them whenever I get the chance to sit back and watch UA-cam. I enjoy watching your skill and technique grow with each new challenge. You have inspired me to venture deeper into my builds, (I'm more on the wood work side of the house) but I'm sure you have done the same with others in their own ventures. Learning that nothing is as satisfying as creating something with your own hands is a skill within it's self. People like you help others realize this. Great job man, and keep up the good work.
+ClayAlan Sanders thank you sir :)
Two excellent craftsmen.
Holy amazing video production and cool project, can't wait to see the finished product!
coming from the samurai's channel, amazing stuff. I believe I'll be joining you more frequently. thanks!

+Gonzo6994 thank you sir!
Absolutely an awesome video!!!! Music was great. Narrating on point. Good job.
Perhaps a piece of tool steel welded on the flat as a cutting edge ? Like many other Japanese tools?
you made samurai carpenter so happy with his new toy this is amazing
This is great, two of my favourite channels!!!
Truly amazing skills, sir!
If there was ever a man that should or deserves to have a show on the History channel or Discovery. I mean shit he could make the whole show himself. Amazing job Alec!!!
