Brookstone 250psi air compressor fail and autopsy

One day I WILL find a compressor that can reliably nuke pop bottles without self-destructing in the process. In the meantime, here's another one that didn't live up to expectations.
You'll see these all over eBay in various guises. Some even claim to go up to 300 psi! I doubt it somehow.
