Blake Bites: Why does William Blake say that All Religions are One?

  • In his first work in illuminated printing, Blake writes provocatively that "all religions are one". While this has been taken by some to mean that Blake believes all religions are the same, in fact it refers to his idea that all religions find their source in human imagination.
