  • The MV Guemes is the sole ferry operated by Skagit county, connecting Guemes Island to Anacortes. The Guemes holds 21 cars and 100 passengers. She is 124' 0" in length, 34' 0" wide, and has a 7' 0" draft. The Guemes was built in 1979.
Guemes Island is a triangular island of about eight square miles north of Anacortes across Guemes Channel in northwest Skagit County. The name was given in 1791 by Lieut. Juan Francisco de Eliza, for the Viceroy of Mexico, Don Juan Vincente de Guemes Pacheco y Padillo Orcasitas y Aguayo, Conde de Revilla Gigedo. Various portions of the count’s name were given to other locations in the Pacific Northwest.
In this video, the Guemes is seen making a complete round-trip between Anacortes and Guemes Island.

What a mighty little ferry. After seeing the larger ferries, what a treat! Thank you!

It really is a mighty little ferry! And soon (hopefully) Guemes Island will be served by a new all electric ferry.
