    Angus, it's nice to see that you've updated your 3D printing book. I'd purchased your first book back in 2017 when you'd released it and it really "upped" my "game" in terms of printing.
    Hopefully your updated book will do the same for those who are 3D printing novices and/or shine new light on the hobby for us seasoned veterans.
    Great work as always. 😁

    Thanks Angus for doing this. Over the last cuple of years I have got so much help from your videos and website to make my FDM printing work for me and my Ender 3 Max. i think one of the best design tips I got from you was sacrificial bridging, which has made it so much easier to print recessed horizontal holes without support material that can be impossible to remove. I look forward to reading through your eBook!

    Video idea I had: testing the extremes of different nozzle sizes. Essentially seeing how small or large you can set things like layer height or line width to see if a nozzle is still reliable at the extremes or if it’s better to just swap it out for a properly sized one. Suggesting this cause I’ve wondered if it’s still actually possibly to print things like .12mm layer height on a .6mm nozzle. I know around 5 or 6 years ago you did a video about why nozzle diameter is important, but I figured you could add your modern understanding of it to make something really interesting.

    • @frankenmint
      @frankenmint Рік тому

      I did some .16 layer height prints using .6mm nozzles earlier tonight... it's possible, but I suspect it cleans up FAR better if you run the appropriate nozzle...my prints were acceptable, but not exceptional quality for those smaller sizes, I found my larger sized prints looked nicer (naturally due to being properly sized for the nozzle)

    I made a post on this video yesterday. Its a great resource . I especially like when you provide a link to a video or other resource where you expand on complex topics in the book. The extra visuals and a more detailed explanation is welcome. Initially some of the hyper links would not work for me because I was reading the pdf in Kindle. Recommendation to others.... don't do that. Open it in Chrome or Acrobat Reader or something that recognizes the links and allows you to open them. Also, a physical copy would be nice to have but a physical wouldn't support the hyperlinks which IMO is a serious value add to the electronic version.

    Instant buy! I second the other suggestions that you try to find a way to offer hard copies, but I also know that publishers can take a major cut. The one that comes to mine for books like yours is No Starch Press, they have a lot of small-production books for hobbyists and beginners. I looked up their publishing agreements and they only offer 15%(!) on hardcopies and 25% on e-books, the 15% can also be 12% or even 10% with an $5,000 or $8,000 payout. Even considering e-books only, 25% is so much lower than what you can make today… I can see why authors wouldn't bother with publishing companies.

      The practical thing about a physical book is that one can easily pages backwards to look up something while you are actually trying to implement it. With an ebook juggling between projects and reading wastes a lot of time. This is always true for technical projects. The problem can be partly solved with 2 monitors linked to your computer. The aforementioned notwithstanding I still applaud Angus' inputs. 👏🏻

I'm not sure how easy it will be to see illustrations if there are any, or if it needs to be in color. I could read it on the computer, but reading on a computer is not a pleasant experience. How will your book read on a Kindle and do you have any plans to make a paper book? There is a lot of value in your experience with 3D printing and I think it will benefit a lot of people. My concern is how easy it will be to read.

    Consider my P1P order yesterday me jumping on the Bambu hype train lol, after a crappy Ender experience and lackluster MK3 clone experience I really just want prints I'm happy with from a machine that works well and reliably, the one thing I've realised is I don't have time for the printer itself to be a hobby it needs to be a tool and that won't come cheap.
    Regarding a resin printing ebook, I hope you know what you would be getting yourself into, the best and most complete guide that I ever saw when starting with actual real world testing being the first to disprove multiple long-held assumptions was Adonael's Resin Printing FAQ. But never underestimate the shear toxicity and stupidity of the resin printing community, even they abandoned reddit at some point and no longer update that guide citing the fight against misinformation a losing battle, I messaged them and apparently it gets something like 1k views a week still though, there is definitely a demand for solid up to date information!

Other than curmudgeons like you, how many people actually buy stuff printed on paper any more? In a 2022 poll of American book buyers only 37% bought exclusively print books. But by all means, let’s have a poll and find out if people sophisticated enough to be interested in 3D printing are also so nostalgic for outdated technology that they want to hold dead trees in their hands.

    Here’s a tip for giving better tips: solicit input from others. Your vast audience knows things that you don’t, which is almost inevitably true in comparing collective intelligence to that of a single person, no matter how smart and educated he or she is.
    For example, yesterday I learned something about silica gel desiccant I’ve never seen conveyed by any expert in years of reading about that topic.
    Here’s a better, more compelling example: the 3-D printing community is largely fixated on fused-filament fabrication printers. What’s beyond the horizon is more interesting and more capable of producing practical real-world objects vastly quicker with better material properties at less cost.

    Looking forward to seeing more of what is to come in the future with all things 3D Printing.
