Probably my favorite song off Spectres. Something about cruising around with the windows down in the summer night by yourself listening to this tune. Reminds me of my youth.
Perfectly said! I have done this exact thing and it is absolute bliss cruising with this song playing in the car at night exactly as you’ve described. It is DEFINITELY a touchstone to my youth, and it hits me right in my soul every time. It’s a treasured song for sure.
My wife got tickets to see BOC in Laughlin, NV, on September! 28, 2024! I haven't seen them since 1981! I am so fucking stoked! Got them for my birthday, which is a few days before the concert! I can't wait! I love this tune!
This song has been playing in my head since I first heard it way back. Great to hear it live but I like the studio version better. Buck Dharma is one of the greats in my book.
I love the night Out in the air, cool and clear, it’s free It’s the only way to be I love the night Once hidden wonders now are there to see They were pointed out to me This is the other verse not on the studio version: Now I never rise until the sun falls And my vision knows no walls I’m looking for ladies walking alone They forget the day When they hear me say...
One of my favorite BOC songs. Hell, one of my favorite songs, period! I don't think I've seen them play this one live but I did get to see another favorite off of Spectres at a club show once: "The Golden Age Of Leather."
This is one of my favorites from BOC i like prettymuch everything they play,Ive seen them 32 times in concert firt time was in 1980 in Salem Oregon jam
My 1st BOC show ever was the summer of 1977, the Spectres Tour...lasers & mirror balls, row 3, floor seats. Unfortunately, we never heard this one, that day...but this Night's doing it for me❗
I never knew they performed this live. Next to Death Valley NIghts, one of my ultimate fav's off of Spectres. Thank you for giving us BÖC fans a true gem in live performances.

There are so many great BOC bootlegs... unless you're looking for a 1983 show with "I Love The Night" on it. The suddenly there is nothing I can find. Would you know the date and venue for this performance? Thanks.
Buck Dharma stated that the Producer, the late great Sandy Pearlman, convinced him (Buck Dharma) to edit the song because he thought it would be a radio hit and needed to cut down the length of the song.
He changed the words. One of my all time favorite BOC songs. Theres so many layers in the studio version. Hard to reproduce live. I think they did a good job. Just weird that he changed the words
There was always talk of an additional verse that Buck did not use for Spectres, I have heard it elsewhere on youTube and it's typically wonderful. I don't think that Buck was entirely comfortable with the live vocals for this one or Golden Age of Leather so they were underplayed, both fabulous songs.
This is my rendition of that altered verse, it's what i could make out.. let me know what you think of what i have! "I love the night. up in the air, cool and clear so free, its the only way to be. i love the night. once hidden wonders now are vague to see, they were pointed out to me."
Two things I think of when I hear this song, one almost in a way a sequel musically to Don't fear the reaper and secondly I picture the scene in From Dusk till Dawn where Salma Hayek is dancing in that skimpy outfit with the snake on her shoulders even though she didn't dance to this but, just imagine that's all. Afterall it is a song about vampires,is it not?
@HiddenTruth666 I hear a couple of words differently. Here's what it sounds like to me: "I love the night. Out in the air, cool and clear, it's free. Its the only way to be. I love the night. Once hidden wonders now are there to see. They were pointed out to me."
Albert who was a finesse drummer (& on the studio recording in 1977) left the band in 1981. The guy who took over was a brute of a drummer (in a good way).
Bloom the weakest link of the band. Hardly contributed anything. Albert was more important and he got the boot. No coincidence the most of their albums sucked after Fire of Unknown Origin which was Al's last as a band member. back to Eric: Allen was the second guitarist.
Bloom had a massive influence at times, he was probably the leading contributor to the Fire album for example. His vocals were great around that that time (check out the concert footage from 09/10/81 for Veteran of the Psychic Wars, excellent job from Eric). Albert was a massive loss but the band (including his own brother) voted him out.
BalladOfThinMan - That should give you some idea of the strength of the band. Eric Bloom was arguably the greatest singer of the genre during the mid 70s. He was nowhere near the instrumental prowess of the other four band members. Donald Roeser was in a league all by himself. Allen Lanier could have played lead guitar in any band. So could Joe Bouchard, though he was BOC's bassist. Albert Bouchard could have played anything in any band, except lead singer. Bloom did more than an admirable job fronting the band despite what he lacked as an instrumental musician.
Yes Eric "tinkers" on guitar & keyboards ... but he wrote some good songs & for me he had a great rock voice until recent years that suited material like Astronomy, Flaming Telepaths, Veteran, ETI etc ...
@@JohnHoulgate Hi John, Respectfuly disagree.. Al sang cities on flame, Sinful love, and a couple others off AOF. He added energy to the original line up. His issues were he couldn’t show up on time among others. His drumming was awesome. Love BOC

It’s 2024 and song we heard over 45 years ago and we’re still listening and talking about it. Still fresh and relevant.

This is an 80s song released in the late 70s! It was ahead of its time!
Saw them live in the 80s I think
This song has been playing in my head since I first heard it way back. Great to hear it live but I like the studio version better. Buck Dharma is one of the greats in my book.

beautiful lyrics! thank you from the future.
Buck`s guitar play is outstanding. Not from this earth.
I first heard this in 30 years ago ... I could NOT get the bass riff out of my head ... amazing
I'm having that same "problem" now 😅
One of my favorite BOC songs. Hell, one of my favorite songs, period! I don't think I've seen them play this one live but I did get to see another favorite off of Spectres at a club show once: "The Golden Age Of Leather."
the solo is just plain sick, incredible

Beautiful.
Stunning
if you are talking about MFP on long island you just made me CRY.....what a great place
Agreed. My favourite on Spectres, too, and one of my all-time favourite BOC tracks.
One of the best live performences
Gotta say I loved that haunting song back in 78 one of my favorite songs
BOC's best song.
Nice - I saw them in Arkansas in 83 and they played a long, stretched out version of this song, beautiful, like this one.
Que música, senhores!
🤘🎸🎶
I have seen this band more time than any other ! They ARE the soundtrack of my "Formative" years ! GREAT BAND !
Thanks for posting this! Always good to hear live BOC from the pre-camcorder days.
Fkn great song.
Far out! Way old BOC! This is good stuff whomever posted this!

Wow! How Beautiful Is That? Saw Them Many,MANY Times Around The Tri State Back In The Day but Never Heard Them Play this favorite. Thanks For Posting!
Like a friend once told me..."the Cult will always rule."
Buck, The guitarists' guitarist.
I've seen them 3 times and I've never Buck in better form and just unbelievable soul
Man, this is the real music n great fucking preformance! I think i would cry if i was there, great, MASTERPEACE!!
Jovan Nećakov I’ve seen this live and it’s quite emotional 😭 🖤
I seen them play this about five years ago. I forgot they had done this at the time. So good. Great band. Still sound as good today as yesteryear.
made sure the DJ played this song at my wedding
One of my favorite songs by the BOC❤️
Buck is a smart guitar player.
Great band , great song.
Only 3,080 views? I'm responsible for at least 1000 of them. :-)
Thats an Amazing amount of BOC shows! I've seen them twice.

Very nice. What BOC always needed was two Allen Laniers on stage to really fill out the songs.
Totally right on! Thanks!

It certainly should have been a hit.
I think the other lyrics in the extended version don't really add anything though, and it's better shortened.
A San Francisco station used to play this song in the eighties . But only on Halloween. Lol
Sandy underestimated the Philistinism of the music industry.
This is awesome! Please post some more. Thanks
Brilliant stuff.
My Fathers Place-I was at this show.
Lucky you. Sort of the end of the beginning if you know what I mean.
one of the few good mid 70's groups prior to punk
I had been curious about that. Buck Dharma himself told me there was another verse that had to be left off of the studio cut for length reasons.

BOC all day!!
They did that in a lot of places.
Def. the best track off of Spectres. One of my favorites from BOC.
How many songs about vampires did they do, anyway? Four? Five?
Nosferatu was one, also off of Spectres. Tattoo Vampire from Agents of Fortune.

It was like death but nobody died.
This sounds like it was recorded after Al left the band.
GOOD?
How about one of the best?
guitar solo is epic, where is this from?
Spectres
Awesome song,I wish they would play it like it was on the Album instead of adding more riffs...sorry I'm a purist.
I just don’t understand why there aren’t any snare fills in any live versions of this.

I fucked that all up but you get it
Check out my cover version of I love the night if ya get a chance, it's stripped down vocals & a 12 string
