I love the night is surely the best slow rock song of all time. I never get tired of hearing it and and the beautiful guitar work and vocals/lyrics are some of the tastiest music that you"ll ever hear!
Thanks for this clip. Blue Oyster Cult are an American Treasure. Totally original and groundbreaking in every aspect of their music. Way ahead of the pack. Buck is simply the Greatest. NOBODY comes close to his virtuosity and melodic playing. This band is timeless.
It is a shame, that is for sure. Add in his composing and singing skills, and Buck gets my vote for greatest rock n roll musician of the last 50 years. Yet only an enlightened few know who he is.
The extra verse is: "Now I never rise until the sun falls, and my vision knows no walls. I'm looking for ladies walking alone. They forget the day, when they hear me say I Love The Night."
I saw them a several times but they never played this live when I saw them! Ahhh, BOC! Straight ahead 70s rock pre-PC sensorship when rock was loud but eclectic, cars loud & fast, you could tell a girl she was hot (or a fox!) and not be considered an "attack on women", we worked hard, earned our way & played even harder! Thanks for sharing this killer clip. Peace out my felloe Rock & Roll refugees!
BOC is the most talented American rock band bar none. Buck is the best American guitarist. They (the original line up with the Bouchard brothers) could more than hold their own against anyone. Certainly the most unique band and they excelled at any type of rock n roll they recorded. Never really made a bad album. Should be in the R&RHOF because they are totally what rock n roll is about.
There are very few bands that I get sick of listening too, this isnt one of them. From Buck to Albert and Joe, truly amazing musicians and imho, Buck and Al are in the top 5 for their respective instruments.
The first time I heard BOC was in 72 when my friend bought their first album because of the artwork. We listened to the whole album and I was hooked. The vocals and the guitars was what got me. I've been their fan ever since. They just get better but the first album will always be my favorite. They are unique.
I’m glad they started playing some deep cuts from years ago. For the true fan, nothing is as sweet as hearing a song you’ve been listening to on vinyl for 30 years finally played live.
I love this song, and to me, Buck will always be one of the best guitarists in the world, and Eric is so amazing at his age he looks even younger every year and with such energy, long live BOC ! This was a great tour with Allen, Bobby and Danny ...
Saw BOC in concert at Martin Park ..Loves Park Illinois...they couldn't do the lazer show but hell it was the music I came for. And they blew it out of the park...one of my best teen memories
I agree Steven! I forgot this song until the other day. I was having a beer with some friends, and seen it on the jukebox. I play it every time I go in there. Another song I love is Seasons of Wither by Aerosmith!
Incredible band. Seen them many times. Their music had more meaning and was always so deep. No two albums sounded exactly the same. A rarity in any band's catalogue. Buck's great! RIP, Allen.
Going to see them on September 28, 2024 in Laughlin, NV! My wife bought tickets for my birthday...I haven't seen them since 1981 back in Indiana! I am so fucking fired up...she just told me!
Ahh, I freakin fell in love with this the first time I heard it in 77/78. First time I've heard it live. Thank you HarlJHogg. It's always puzzled me as to why this song never became a hit. It's right up there with 'Reaper'.
I love this song it reminds me of great summer nights riding around Lake Fairlee, VT with my brother Eric and a bunch of camp girls in the back of his old scout. We listened to BOC all night.I hope to see BOC in concert some day. Thank you . SB God Bless
Saw BOC about 2 months ago in Halifax, Buck played a solo instrumental to give everyone a break. It was insane. This guy is a fucking guitar wizard. He melted everyones face that night. Also then came the last days of may was beyond words. Blooms voice may be going, but Buck only ever gets better.
I've seen them around 30 times myself and last night was the first time I've seen them do it live. AND it was their first "unplugged" acoustic show ever. It was aMAzing!
A close listen reveals that this song is about a man who is bitten by a female vampire and turned into one: "Her kiss that night told me it was over" (his life), "One look in the mirror told me so" (he couldn't see his reflection, a sure sign that he's a vampire).
cliff tucker or as in my case the from a woman who I believe was the devil in disguise and when we first met we both mention this song...When does that ever happen best song by BOC and non of my friends never heard it but she did... The kiss from the devil I love...
cliff tucker, the way I read it was that another lover told him that their relationship was over, and while out grieving that, the lady in white came to him and started the initiation/seduction into the vampire way (you can't really call it "life" ;-) While he was with her he looked in the mirror and the lady in white had no reflection. This version is notable in that it has the extra verse not shown on the BÖC website that includes "my vision knows no walls". It's a pleasurable shock to hear an old familiar song with a wonderful "new" add-in! Just saw BÖC a couple of months ago in Paso Robles, despite it being 'just' a county fair the staging and sound were very very good and the show quite enjoyable. "Missing" verse (Albert was quoted that they made Buck leave it off the studio album): Now I never rise until the sun falls And my vision knows no walls And I'm looking for ladies walking alone They regret the day when they hear me say...
You know it's a about a vampire when it says "I live to see those rays drift away" meaning she can't wait until the sun rays dissapear i.e. the Sun to set so she can come out.
I was there that nite @ 4th&B in downtown San Diego. One of the best shows Ive seen them play from both setlist & performance standpoint and Ive seen BOC over 30 times in my life.
you're lucky. this song is one of the "unsung" BOC classics. this live version is nice, although i prefer the studio version which in my mind is a 80's masterpiece. as good as any rock ballad ever. would love to find a studio extended version!
I love this song and this BAND, for decades... I didn't know there was a long version (duh). Where are the lyrics? BOC lyrics, Buck's guitar, their harmonies, mood, meaning = indescribable beauty.
Absolutely one of the top talents ever in music, Rock or otherwise, Donald Roeser (Buck Dharma) is shamefully under appreciated, as is B.O.C as a whole. But Buck's excellent composing, outstanding vocals and unequalled guitar mastery makes the lack of recognition so egregious, especially considering he's been performing professionally for 50 YEARS! What a travesty.
The Lady in White refers to Lucy from the Dracula movie, and most likely the book. It's been a long time since I read it though, so I can't recall how closely the movie references the book.
Don'quote believe 1977 leaving Kiel Auditorium coming down the parking lot ramps everybodys car windows open with K-SHE rockin this tune by Blue Oyster Cult! What a Bitchin concert with a Bitchin encore. 😉🤣👍
Harl, this is Skipper309 from the old AOL BOC days! Thanks for posting... after 40 years it still feels the same as if a brand new song. You turned me on to this extended version back in the early 90s. Hope all is well with you - namaste my friend.
Six shows live in two states for me and I've never seen this song played. What kills me is I missed this show and 4th and B is in my freaking home town. A friend who goes to a lot of BOC shows with me complains we can never hear many of their songs live because they are addicted to turning EVERY song performed live into a ten to twenty minute "jam" so at the end of the show you've only heard ten songs or less. Kinda true. Anyway, great song and my wife's favourite BOC tune. Vampires.
RoeserFan1 they were great. They had a bass player who was with them in 90s & early 2000s and he was really enjoying himself. And once again Richie Castellano nailed last days of may
"the day is okay, and the sun can be fun, but I live to see those rays slip away"
Hearing this song takes me back.
I love cruising around on summer nights with the windows down listening to this song, just like I did back when it first came out.
Such a fantastic love ballad! This is Blue Oyster Cults best tune! I listen to this song with tears in my eyes!
Big fan 40 plus years....3 concerts in the 80s and this is my favorite.... Bucks guitar riffs are incredible ......love the entire Spectres album .
What a tragically underrated guitarist...
It is a shame, that is for sure. Add in his composing and singing skills, and Buck gets my vote for greatest rock n roll musician of the last 50 years. Yet only an enlightened few know who he is.
Yup. The guy is a genius.
Buck is Not tragic!!!
Buck is worth North of $10 million & gets to do what he loves doing everyday .... by my own experiences that is FAR from tragic.
Best American lead guitarist period!
The extra verse is:
"Now I never rise until the sun falls,
and my vision knows no walls.
I'm looking for ladies walking alone.
They forget the day, when they hear me say
I Love The Night."
!!! I wonder if it was included only in their live shows? I have seen them live twice but I'm fairly certain I didn't hear this one played.
I think there are more alternate lyrics too though. Or am I hearing it incorrectly?
Huh... is this song about the POV of a serial killer or something?
@@pentalway Nope, it's a vampire story.
@@pentalway nope about Vampire
I saw them a several times but they never played this live when I saw them! Ahhh, BOC! No other band comes close.... Awesome band.
That was about the time I heard them. They were kind of known by word of mouth on Long Island. I now love them more than ever.

The guitar playing is fucking gorgeous.
This was a performance for the ages. Just absolutely sublime.
the guitar in this song cuts through me,...great stuff,...so beautiful,...Thx BOC,...Rock and Roll will never die !!
I'm speechless .... way beyond beautiful ....
RIP, Allen.
I cant figure out who was the most awesome, Allen or Buck.. Best band ever...
This is a perfect song...Always has been..
B.O.C. fan for years. Buck does his own on this track and it is beautiful.
This song gives me chills
One of the greatest songs ever written ever!!!
Going to see them on September 28, 2024 in Laughlin, NV! My wife bought tickets for my birthday...I haven't seen them since 1981 back in Indiana! I am so fucking fired up...she just told me!
What a sweet sounding guitar. Buck made it ooze with pure extacy from the(his)heart. Like Nobody Else.
Ahh, I freakin fell in love with this the first time I heard it in 77/78. First time I've heard it live. Thank you HarlJHogg.
It's always puzzled me as to why this song never became a hit. It's right up there with 'Reaper'.
I don't think I love the night was ever released as a single. I love the song too, and Spectres album
I love this song it reminds me of great summer nights riding around Lake Fairlee, VT with my brother Eric and a bunch of camp girls in the back of his old scout. We listened to BOC all night.I hope to see BOC in concert some day. Thank you .
SB
God Bless
holy crap I was at this show! One of the best concerts I've seen in my life thus far!
Has there ever been a guitarist who is able to compose such beautiful, melodic haunting riffs in his songs?
I've seen them 25 times since 1981, Buck is a Guitar God!
seeing them again a few times in OR this summer!
Thank you so much for posting this. This song means a lot to me.Also thanks to Blue Oyster Cult for this song, eternally thankful.
who would dislike this? I mean after seeking it out and watching it...WTF is there to not LOVE?
One of the most interesting bands of all time. Under rated and overshadowed by larger flashier acts.
I loved that line up with Bobby Rondinelli and Danny Miranda. Such an awesome song.
This is so awesome!...love the revised guitar licks...its my fav version!
I've seen them around 30 times myself and last night was the first time I've seen them do it live. AND it was their first "unplugged" acoustic show ever. It was aMAzing!
WHAT A GREAT SONG BY A GREAT BAND!!!THEY EVEN INCLUDED THE RARE OBSCURE 3RD VERSE SADLY NOT USED ON THEIR GREAT ALBUM SPECTRES!!B.O.C!!!
top 10 best songs ever
With that last verse there is no denying that this song is about a vampire.
Excellent performance
Lost for words. The best

hmmmm....i like that interpretation better than the nasty drug usage idea. lol. i'll have to look at this song some more.......
cliff tucker, the way I read it was that another lover told him that their relationship was over, and while out grieving that, the lady in white came to him and started the initiation/seduction into the vampire way (you can't really call it "life" ;-) While he was with her he looked in the mirror and the lady in white had no reflection.

Well since the next track on the album is titled "Nosferatu" I'd say you are correct!
Man! That was just awesome! I love that tune.
Just an incredible love ballad! One of the most under rated songs of all time!
What a very underrated group this song is awesome both the live version and the studio version it’s a shame tgey get so little love on the radio
Welcome to the brilliance that is BOC enjoy the ride, they have so many great songs.
Bk Swanson. I like this song and "you're not the one I was looking for " and both me and my friend Hugh like the last days of may. and 35 other songs
Now THATS what you call music.
What a beautiful song!! BOC are underrated, they’re great musicians. Love them.

Absolutely beautiful song
A superb version of an all-time classic BOC track. Thanks for posting this!!
One of my favorite BOC songs. Great Band

Ahhhhh, one of my favorite songs off of Spectres.
I was there! Seems like yesterday, and a hundred years ago!
All time favorite BOC song!
Wow they sound pretty good live!
you're lucky. this song is one of the "unsung" BOC classics.
this live version is nice, although i prefer the studio version which in my mind is a 80's masterpiece. as good as any rock ballad ever. would love to find a studio extended version!
Bad ass song # 1 American band of all time 😎
Buck Dharma shreds the "Cheeseberger!!!"
I love this song and this BAND, for decades... I didn't know there was a long version (duh). Where are the lyrics? BOC lyrics, Buck's guitar, their harmonies, mood, meaning = indescribable beauty.

Legendary!
Excelent!
I LOVE THE B.O.C.!!!
A friend of mine's high school english teacher was Eric Bloom's sister. I watched Eric and him talk about after a show. Pretty interesting.

BOC Pure Genius
Video as entered my "Hidden UA-cam Treasure's" playlist,....
Don't tell anyone!!
The Lady in White refers to Lucy from the Dracula movie, and most likely the book.
It's been a long time since I read it though, so I can't recall how closely the movie references the book.
Sure would like to see this live. After about 15 shows I finally saw what was left of BOC(Buck&Eric)do Shooting Shark just last year.
thanks for posting!!!!
Thanks for posting the lyrics
The fact that BOC are not yet in the R&R Hall of Fame, is beyond me...
would love to see comments from BOC fans about which songs they feel have the
most profound meaning, thank you so much!
Yeah 1978 Korea, should have been there, US Army.
1977,1978,1979,1980
I love the night
Vanessa - Himynameisvans what do you mean - all those songs - when I was in the Army and used blast them all lol
Cities on Flame , with R n R ,
Don'quote believe 1977 leaving Kiel Auditorium coming down the parking lot ramps everybodys car windows open with K-SHE rockin this tune by Blue Oyster Cult! What a Bitchin concert with a Bitchin encore. 😉🤣👍
I Love The night .!
a large portion of their "hits" are co-written, or written lyrically by Sandy Pearlman. Great writer too, glad they work together.
Thank you. Been looking for that.
Harl, this is Skipper309 from the old AOL BOC days! Thanks for posting... after 40 years it still feels the same as if a brand new song. You turned me on to this extended version back in the early 90s. Hope all is well with you - namaste my friend.
Even though I'm 2 years late it really is good to hear from you skipper!

Anyway, great song and my wife's favourite BOC tune.
Vampires.
Bobby rondenelli what a great groove
This song haunts me!
You got it.
Bow down to Buck... the head-bobbing master!
That's right!! I have the collection and I completely forgot about it! Thanks for the reminder! :)
💪😎👍MY BAND
I Love the Night - chilly - Still wish they would have played when they were at Prairie Knights casino, could heard at it loudest.
On that last line, it sounds like Buck sings, "They forget that day when they hear me say...."....
I've seen them 19x including march 10 emerald queen casino. I've seen them play this song at least 12 x
Rick, How were they at Emerald Queen this year? The 2017 show looked awesome.
RoeserFan1 they were great. They had a bass player who was with them in 90s & early 2000s and he was really enjoying himself. And once again Richie Castellano nailed last days of may
