They need to teach him just a little bit of better Control of his pitches . I absolutely love seeing this guy on the Mound , he’s got some NASTY stuff . I’ve always have gotten behind the Reds win or lose , their my team & being from Cincinnati I,ll back the Reds before I,ll back the Bengals any day of the week & thats because the Cincinnati Reds have more history in the MLB than the Cincinnati Bengals have in the NFL , sad but true . The most amazing thing to me is not that MLB pitchers can throw 100+ mph, but that MLB hitters can still hit 100+mph pitches. I keep wondering which one will max out first: pitchers' velocity, or hitters' ability to make contact at that velocity.

    • @thomasmiller4710
      @thomasmiller4710 2 роки тому +1

      I would guess pitching velocity. Guys could hit Nolan Ryan, and he was throwing like this young man or harder for years after he started. Aren't they startging to say that Ryan could throw 108 back in the day?

    • @jmoquinn
      @jmoquinn 2 роки тому +1

      @@thomasmiller4710 Some claim that. Although there were radar guns in Ryan's day, they apparently measured, IIRC, the speed of the pitch as it crossed the plate. Today's guns measure the speed as it leaves the pitcher's hand. The ball will slow down slightly after traveling the 60' (if anyone wants to correct me, I know it's 60'6" from rubber to plate, but it's considerably less than that from the point the ball actually leaves the pitcher's hand). Thus, some have done the physics/math and calculated that Ryan's pitches may have been up to 108 mph leaving his hand.
      The human brain can't actually see the ball and react that fast. At that point, it's muscle memory, and starting to swing nearly the instant the pitch is delivered, based on the brain's projection of where the ball will be, not actually tracking the pitch.

    "Other stuff is going to be the success for his career." Indeed, and it will show when he can get through that third trip through the order. Small sample size, obviously, but in two starts, that's the first time he's getting touched. Still, his tools are incredible. Once he gains equal command of his other pitches, he could easily become one of those guys who throws hard without getting hit hard (e.g. Wheeler, DeGrom).
    And again, small sample size, way too small to jump to conclusions. This is a guy I want to see a LOT this year. As the commenter below me says, it feels like we're witnessing history.

      @@Scheboygan8767 how many good starters are there in the MLB that only throw a fastball and a changeup. If that man doesn't add something else to his pitch repertoire his future has bullpen written all over it. Look at Chapman, he couldn't make it as a starter either. Velocity isn't gonna get him so far for so long, especially without crazy movement on the fastball and pinpoint accuracy.

      MLB hitters will catch up to it if they see it enough.
