Your Mimi-Me is fortunate to have a dad like you who can build him cool toys and other things, then teach him to do it himself as he grows up. Anyway, the splitter build is coming along nicely.
Ah it's looking perfect Donn, and you got MINI MAN'S approval too. Can't ask for more than that. It will be a fantastic Log Splitter when you're through with it. Thanks for taking us along with you. Stay safe and keep up the great video's and have some fun along the way. Fred.
So we all know, "Mini Me" will be welding before kindergarten. Start them young let them learn to build and make stuff, it is the best teacher for life, it either works or it won't. But the biggest take away is problem solving how to A) Make it work or B) How to make it better and work better. Take it from me, the most important thing is enjoy this time it goes by so fast I am speaking from experience my kid is 26 and yes no matter her age she is my kid.
I've been following your channel for a few years now and always look forward to your next project. Obviously you're doing something right, nearing 1 million subscribers. It's always fun to see how many "professional " fabricators comment on how they'd do it but somehow don't have a YT channel to show how smart they are!!
You're the one, building a pro version of DIY is not easy, there are always things and combinations that make you stop and think for a solution.. Keep on, cheers big time. 😉👍
I'm only woodworking, so I'll eventually do steel, but I don't have enough knowledge. A round file is good. Studying here is meaningful. Have a nice day.
A good way to make the moving wedge go up and down would be an angled slot that works like a ramp. Very low profile relative to a complex linkage system and fewer moving parts.
It's always a pleasure watching you work, you are very talented and creative. Mini me was sure bundled up, it must be very cold there. Keep the videos coming they are always excellent. 👍
Coming along very nicely !! This will be a nice splitter !! Fantastic work and excellent design !! Also your little boy is so cute !! Can't wait till the next video !! 👍👍
Donn, of you want to make a flap sander, you can use an old armature to from a heater or wiper motor. Take all the copper out, fold some sandpaper (sanding belt is better than paper), slip it into the armature with the grit on the outside, and hold it in place with carpenter nails with a bid head so it won't slip through.
Log lift is coming out sweet! Brilliant idea, all splitters need them. I wish mine had one, instead I use the most expensive log lift in the world, an excavator, LOL! This project is coming out great, I can't wait to show it to my father, he'll LOVE it! Nice to see "mini me" almost time to get him a PW50 to rip around on, yeah?
I have a couple of extra skid steer loader cylinders I plan to use for a log loft. Was thinking about putting quick disconnects on my hydraulic log splitter to use it as a power pack to run the cylinder. My saw mill is also up on a trailer and some.of these 11' LG x 22" diameter wet white oak logs push 1-ton.
Nice project . Some remarq , when transporting/riding the logsplitter, the end of that logloader being horizontal will very much sticking out sidewards . An extra hing in the middle of the lenght of the loader does solve that problem .
Hi Donn. I like to watch you constructing all of those machines. But i also would liko to see you farm renovation. When you gonna finish it? Thanks for your videos.
I built a log lifter for a friends splitter, i mostly copied the woodmizer log lifter, twice now he has lent it out to others, they try and have one person loading and one running the controls, both times the person loading has had their feet pinched under the lifter when the person operating the controls lowered it, there are labels and it is in the manual, to avoid injury only one person operating this machine.
Good splitter for clear wood. But,, Knitty or twisted or cross cutting is ruled out. You need one with the blade moving on the cylinder end. Then the blade can be withdrawn from jambed logs . Excellent for nice clear logs. I mention, constructively, for anyone about to make a splitter.
Always a pleasure to watch you work, especially the problem solving. Is there an advantage to pushing the wood against the wedge as opposed to driving the wedge into the wood? All the splitters I see in the U.S. drive a wedge.
That is coming along very nicely be interesting to see it run how big of a reservoir tank are you going to put on it can't wait to find out please keep it going
Toote arenduses, vist see vigade parandamine suuremaks mureks kujunebki. Endiselt jõudu ja uute videodeni!!!
Looks good but have you thought about transportation of the splitter with that log ramp. I feel like it might be in the way, ether too low or sticking out to far. Just some thoughts.
Location of the control handle in the main thing to me, I don’t want to have to look at it during operation of it because I want to be looking at the ram pushing
Since you only used the 2 supply hoses on this splitter,go ahead and clean the old one up,reassemble it and sell it for several hundred bux to help defray the costs of this one...
Omal on seda metalli niipalju varuks varasemast ajast või praegu ostate ? Mis poest? Tahan oma garaažis ka ühtteist teha, aga vaja leida hea metalli jaemüüja eestis
Yes if the trees are straight grain and dont have much branches... His from Estonia and being his neighbor can tell all that wonky birch with lots of branches will do is jam it self to blade like that, or welds will fail and now you have partially splitted log with hardox blade stuck in it. At most you can hope with say 12tons splitter is go for 4 peaces and straight ones that are not wonky maybe 6 or 8 but that is pushing it. If you go for say 50-100cm logs you can forget that 6-8 pretty much and hope for the best with 4. If its "flame birch" grain 4 peaces is pushing it and if its all those things mentioned you pray to god and help the splitter with chainsaw relief cuts...
While standing on that log lifter, the perfect suicide is just levers away.. My favorite blunder on this one is the attachment to the hinge. The ridiculous amount of gusseting could've been avoided by just drilling a hole in the corner of the first square tube. That way the same tube would act as stop and not kill the new part by over extension.

Love watching your mind work and seeing the outcome. It was also nice to see your family.
I had no idea what you were up to and then, MAGIC, a log lifter. Neat.
And a family too! Good for you Donn!
Another brilliant installment and incredible design and fabrication. Little mini me gives you his seal of approval
The little guy is so fortunate to have you as a Dad. Welding at 8.
See you've been fabricating in the bedroom as well, best build yet.

Nice railslide! Oh, and the log splitter's pretty cool too.👍

Looks amazing and mini-me is absolutely adorable!
Perhaps this isn't much cheaper than buying one, but you get what you want and you know it's welded together properly!
It’s generally heavy duty and stronger than factory equipment
I love your videos! They inspired me to make my own firewood processor. But now I see I need a multi function wood splitter too 😂 nice work! 👍

You should get a metal cutting bandsaw. They don't spew out all the dust that angle grinders do. Add drill press to the list too!

The eyes for the log lift cylinder don't have to be full round, just hooks. That way you can easily disconnect it for stowing/moving

what are you going to do with the log loader when it's in transport? leave it in the up position with the cylinder? nice build tho!
Thumbs up, but you should lean the top of knife a bit twords the moving plate that sends the former logs into fine burning woodpieces

Varutud üle pika aja. Teengi projekte põhiliselt nii, et vaatan varud üle ja siis olemasolevast keeran miskit (loodetavasti toimivat) kokku. 😀
The thing that split the wood should be a ring with spokes, then you can have different rings for different size wood pieces
