  • I am in Houston Texas at South Coast Welding Academy doing the Looking through the Gap technique, which was taught to me in 2010/2011 by my Piping Superintendent "Mike Ho" who was a Welder from Brunei 🇧🇳 or, atleast he took training from Brunei Institute. Got his B Pressure ticket in 1980. When I worked at the JV Drivers Fab shop, you either welded using this technique or you didn't weld there. Mike taught me on 18" carbon Piping using 5/32 filler metal, with a slight 1/16 land.
since then, I have showing as many Welders I could this particular technique because it has made me better, and in the very beginning helped me learn Inconel better.

How are you avoiding your auto lens from flashing when looking through the gap?

Come on Travis, back in the day you used to do this without a welding helmet. 😆 Always enjoyed your old welding comedy videos

I was taught this technique in 2010/2011 using 5/32 and a 3/16 gap., but had 1/16 land on 20" Piping. Just how we were taught years ago.
