Am I the only who believes that this volcano is far from finished and the so-called experts don't really know what's going to happen. My gut feeling is that most residents of this island will have to relocate, sooner or later.
The experts correctly predicted this eruption. The authorities have safely evacuated people and nobody has died. There is no way to know how long this eruption will last nor if, when and where more fissures might open. The experts have been very honest as volcanoes are not that predictable. The eruption yes, but exactly where and when & for how long, no. We do not have that ability yet. If you have figured out how to tell exactly how long an eruption will last, perhaps you could share that with the rest of the world?

I guess this is one of the risks you take when deciding to live on the slopes of an active volcano. The eruption is an awe-inspiring natural phenomenon.
Volcano's give more than they take. Best soil in existence for raising the best quality fruits on. 80% of the world's population lives within striking distance of a volcano or earthquake fault zone. Can't be helped, can't be avoided, and the worlds most attractive land are in such regions. Most people are not even aware they have built on a volcano and most volcanoes stay asleep for centuries before erupting. If you live in Washington State, Wyoming, Colorado and Montana then you live in a volcano threat zone never mind Hawaii or Alaska.

But do we know how lava works? Maybe we could cool certain pathways with water and re-direct and divert the lava. Even in Iceland they built physical barriers.
I’ve noticed that no one has looked at a map of this island. If you look at its map, you will see than most of the settlements were built in the old lava flows of past eruptions. It’s not a surprise that the cities are again being engulfed by lava. Very poor planning to build on a lava flow.
...or at least to always expect the worst each day, especially when the volcano starts erupting. M surprise to watch some residents stating not hvg anywhere else to go...they shd hv a 2nd home elsewhere out of the lava path.
@@eduardosampoia5480 Not really. The entire island is shaped like a guitar pic that's about 15 miles from the northern to southern shore and 7 miles from east to west. The island isn't big enough to reliably say that one side is safer than the other. Additionally, V C is victim blaming right now using hindsight to their advantage.
Scientists: "It takes a millions of years to create an islands out from the volcanoes." Meanwhile: "Volcanoes has been spitting lava out every seconds from the tectonic plates of the earth."
The bottom of the ocean is almost 7 km (4 mi) and the highest peak is about 2,4 km (8000 ft). That's a lot of lava. This relatively minor eruption, if it doesn't continue for years, won't add that much. Furthermore, there are different ways a volcano can erupt. This is a spatter cone with a basalt lava stream. Creating new land. There are calderas that show very explosive eruptions in the past. The kind of explosions that like mt. St. Helens can blow a part of the mountain off. So yeah, it takes millions of years. Furthermore, volcanic rock is the best for radiometric dating. So there's that.
Victim implies no choice. People made the choice to live there, despite knowing the volcano has been very recently active. That was gamble, and now some people have lost. That is a consequence of the choice they made, not happenstance making them victims. I will never understand why people choose to build their homes where there is known risk: flood zones, seashores, on top of freaking volcanos…I seriously don’t get it. I saw an interview of a woman whose house had flooded. Aw, sad….ah…wait a minute! Turns out the house had flooded just years before and she chose to use the insurance money to rebuild. 🤦♀️ The second flood was far worse than the first, which had been very bad. Governments should establish funds to buy out properties in disaster prone areas. It saves us all, as a society, money in the long run. The city I live near has a flood prone valley. The local citizens, in cooperation with local governments, established a foundation that buys out the properties along the river that flows through several municipalities. The land is restored to a natural state, improved with a walking/biking trail that follows the river, and larger sections have public parks created. It improves the quality of life for residents and is quite lovely. They just completed a new section that connected two others, so one can walk for miles along the river. When the river floods, as is expected for rivers to do, no homes or businesses are affected there, now. The walkway gets covered with mud and the parks are flooded for a few days. When the water recedes, the walkway is cleaned off and life goes back to normal.

I don't understand how governments that build on active volcanoes don't have emergency funds for just these events. La Palma's volcanoes erupt every few decades, yet they act like this was a shock. They stay on the islands because the eruptions are beneficial in the long run, but they still need to be ready when they happen for the short term discomfort.
@@ryanjamesseager yes no permanent dwelling on this west part of the island, national park and farming indeed, due to fertile soil. But no permanent homes. Same in HawaI.

I would think there are methods to help direct the lava, like building soil walls possibly forming a kind of canal to the sea, similar to how they fight wildfires, you cant stop the fire but you can direct it away from properties. I dont know if they are or if its possible there, maybe it it too late for those things now.
@@TheHrb1234 I guess that would be possible if you knew where the lava is gonna come out of, but this volcano is completely new, the lava didn't come out of a preexisting crater
@@TheHrb1234 Exactly my thoughts since I´ve watched the outbreak and the relatively slow stream of lava during the first days. I do not know if there ARE already methods and plans, but an event like this should inspire people to think about possibilities to potect nearby cities or villages from the worst. Dig some trenches, build some walls, ramps or depressions to direct the lava away from houses or force it to build up in heaps and cool down instead of flowing endlessly as soon as the seismometers are starting to detect something in the deep.
He asks what's being done to save the houses from the lava flow. What an inane question. He might as well ask what is done to keep the beaches dry when the tide comes in.
Amazing imagery. But I wouldn't say destructive. The volcano is just doing what it does. No one told those people to move right under a opening that could spout lava at any time. While I am heartbroken for people losing their homes, they made that choice. They will survive and buy more material goods to replace what they lost. Why? Because the view is worth the risk to them.
It's in many ways amusing. If you live on a small island with active volcanos then you benefit vastly from it (farming and tourism) but also suffer when eruptions take place. Therefore no need to play the the role of a naive victime of nature. It's not force majeur. Just check your house insurance when you live near the volcano.

For a minute I thought you may have misheard. I listened to it again. Yeah, you heard that right. What a weird question.
I’ve noticed that no one has looked at a map of this island. If you look at its map, you will see than most of the settlements were built in the old lava flows of past eruptions. It’s not a surprise that the cities are again being engulfed by lava. Very poor planning to build on a lava flow.
It's the fertile land that people wanted to use.

The best way to keep a house safe from a volcano, is never to build near one in the first place.

Meanwhile: "Volcanoes has been spitting lava out every seconds from the tectonic plates of the earth."
Maybe not that much time then. :->
What is your point? Is there some sort of controversy about volcanisme now ?
Volcanologists, eh? They don't know nothing about anything. Just as well you're here to put the facts straight.
It toke nature millions of years to create all of it and humans destroing nature in 2000 years , now nature claims back for a new start
Man I didn’t think it was possible to victim blame for a goddamn volcano but here we are😂💁🏽♀️
Victim implies no choice.
