      Bartending is way more than these tricks. You need to have some knowledge of ingredients and drinks. You can flip bottles and throw shit in the air all day but if your not fast and have to Google every drink someone orders, then even if you do get hired, you won't make shit for money.

      @@erikkzn2386 who tf is "we"? Industry people sure, but there's plenty of people that would watch a flair bartender do tricks and think they're the best of the best, when a mf doesn't even know their pour counts or how to make an old fashion lol

    I've been studying mixology so intensely for the last 2 years, been working in bars for the last year and a half and I'm actually super proud of myself and how much I've learned as a mixologist. However, as a bartender, my flair abilities are just embarrassing haha. Everytime I try to learn, i make such a mess/so much noise hahaha.

    • @eyespy3001
      @eyespy3001 Рік тому +2

      Ugh…mixologist…
      It’s just bartending, mate. The term mixology is as corny as the term foodie. I’ve been bartending for nearly twenty years, and every time someone comes in for a job and the first thing they say is “I’m a mixologist” I know right off the bat that they’re a shit bartender. My response is always, “great, we’ll start you off as a barback so you learn how to tend the bar.” That usually separates the wheat from the chaff.

    • @manuele.itriagom.728
      @manuele.itriagom.728 Рік тому

      @@eyespy3001 well, I have to agree with that. I separate the two by calling mixology the whole process of using techniques to create infusions, bitters, etc. And then bartending as actually working at the bar. But you are 100% right. It's the same thing

    • @thegoodstuff8193
      @thegoodstuff8193 9 місяців тому +1

      Flair is not needed to be a good mixologist .. Most flair shown above is unhygienic (putting the damn bottle in the shaker) and it's hard to measure accurately whilst doing all this .

    How do you get an accurate pour measurement when you flare ?

    • @TomDyerBartender
      @TomDyerBartender  2 роки тому

      Learn to free pour. Also performing these moves you learn quickly when it's pouring and when it's not to be able to free pour

    How do you keep your counts accurate?

    • @TomDyerBartender
      @TomDyerBartender  4 роки тому +9

      Practice. You'll be surprised how accurate you can be if you just practice a little bit.
      You can always use a Jigger at the beginning to check your pours before they go into the drink

      You get to know your equipment over time...if you use the same Type of pourer on each bottle at your bar it comes down to get a rythm. I count down in my head all the time so i can freepour at work...saves precious time during rushhour 😉👈

      My advice, look for another bar to work at! I'm from Belgium and I ain't got no problems with the amounts of booze I use. I always think "gotta give them something worth of 15/20 bucks"... I ain't gonna charge ya 20 bucks for, just an example, sex on the beach without a decent amount of Vodka and schnapps! 🤣✌️

    Hi great!
    Big Up for you.
    I only want to ask you, how can you count the quantity of liquid when you do thing like the one at 5:40 min?
    Thank you !
    You are the best

    • @TomDyerBartender
      @TomDyerBartender  5 років тому +2

      Count as a normal pour. The more you do the move the better you will be able to control the pour itself.

    It's unfortunate that I'm from Norway and doing my bartending there... If the authorities saw us pouring like this we'd lose our license to serve alcohol pretty damn quick, lol, it's just that strict... Gotta measure every drink out.
    Also, the bar I work at? There's just no time for flare -- if I were to try doing napkin-tricks the people furtherst back in the queue would only get their drink come midnight, ROFL! Cool tricks though for when you have just a few guests ordering, gonna try some of it out, thanks!

    • @TomDyerBartender
      @TomDyerBartender  Рік тому

      Ive been to Norway many times and have friends that moved to work there. They all flair and used flair behind the bar and made a lot of tips. They know how to free pour and they use a jigger as well.
      It's all about perspective and using the right moves at the right time. Check out my secret flair moves video

      Sorry for the late response. But yeah of course some people will, Norway's a long and windy place, haha! But I guess the place I work at just chooses to follow the laws of Norway to the letter though. We have regular random inspections from people in civilian clothing who put marks in your records for the most annoying and ridiculous things, and if they see you doing this kinda free pouring stuff you're very likely to get at least a written warning if not a dot or two in your book if a lot of other things aren't right according to them, and once you've received either of those they are even more liable to come through more often.. It sucks :(@@TomDyerBartender

    Some of the pouring things are really cool, but most of the drinks I’m making I already have the shaker filled with ice, so I feel like trying it with ice would not be very practical lmao

    how do you control the amount of liquid with the second trick?

    • @TomDyerBartender
      @TomDyerBartender  3 роки тому +1

      By counting. Learning how to Free pour means counting when you pour.
      During the rolling part of the move, hardly any liquid pours out (maybe a few ml's) so when you pour you're able to count to achieve the correct amount
