The only reason to put a clear filter on your lens is if you are in a particularly harsh environment such as in the desert or at the beach since nothing will wreck the front element faster than sand or salt and a clear filter is way cheaper than getting your front element replaced.

I love mine. Only gripe is that it's a little bit difficult to take off as you don't have anything solid to grip as the rings move as you twist it.
