Excellent video in a stunning location! Of all of the UA-camrs that have landscape vlogs that I follow, I definitely like how you explain your compositional thought process and display your images the most! The way that you show the raw file transitioning into the edited version helps to spark my post processing juices up a notch, if that makes sense? On a side note, I would definitely be willing to carry some extra lenses for you if it meant getting to experience these shoots that you undertake. Just sayin' 😁
Adam, you are so right to talk about the enjoyment of using a camera, for us amateurs ( me -not you of course!) its a huge part of the reason to keep going out there. If you don't enjoy a camera you wont use it, just like a sports car or a hi fi, no matter how technically good it is if it doesn't put a smile on your face it wont bring you happiness.
Thanks for the comparison, I am currently using XT3 which I enjoy hugely but looking towards GFX 50 probably so its vital that its not a step back in the fun factor.
Thank you Adam! I recently acquired the GFX 50s II and the 35-70. In my initial testing of the lens I have been overwhelmed with the fall images I have taken. The out of camera color and contrast are exceptional. Thank you for spending time on this lens. It confirms the so call kit lens is very good!!

Such a wonderful video Adam. The day you spent in the forest with that fog was spectacular. And those trees are so unique. The images coming out of that Fuji were off the charts. The detail and rendition are second to none.
Good to see the 35-70mm lens being used on the 100s. Since they don't offer it as a kit lens with the 100S, I wasn't sure it would stand up to the resolution. I'm currently testing it on the 50S II, and it's surprisingly good at any of these smaller landscape apertures. Might make it my lightweight waterfall lens. Hike in to get waterfall pictures with just one lens and an ND Polarizer, seems like a done deal.
Your one of the few photographers that I enjoy their videos. Maybe because I’m a GFX shooter too

I Use the 100 and the Angle Finder is what seals the deal ...so much fun and aids me so much in Composition ...i too have the 32-64 and love it so much..
I know there'd be more context to this, but I had a good belly laugh when you mentioned that a seemingly remote group of trees in the seemingly remote forest was a popular location for party goers. Obviously more to it than that, but I enjoyed it. :)

I got the 100 with the tilt adapter and the l bracket for 5k. It's big, but it was cheaper than the 100s so it was a no brainer. Fuji has a known issue with that tilt adapter, mine hasn't had an issue, but you may want to send it in. I converted my 50r to infrared, and having both cameras is fantastic fo my work.

Adam I really appreciate your work. And I do like the way that you describe things how they appear to you. I’ve been a Nikon shooter for 50 years my latest camera is a D850. I am very tempted to jump on board with the 100 S
I have a Mamiya 6 x 7 film camera and those slides are exceptional with the detail. I do have many Nikon lenses as well go to. And in your humble opinion you said it would be hard to tell the difference between the Nikon and the Mamma Mia. I really do appreciate your honesty. I live on an island in southeast Alaska so it’s hard to go to a store to hand hold one and look at it but maybe I need to get online and rent one for a couple days.

Just acquired a GFX 100s with the 80 1.7 and the 35-70 which is a bargain now with 50% off ! Will receive all that gear in the week. Will later add the GF 20-35.
'only' a 50r owner myself, but I bought it largely because of the wide range of in camera aspect ratios, specifically the 65:24 aka 'xpan' format. AF is poor though, so I have a Sony A7R/S system for when I want/need AF & IBIS etc.....the two systems really compliment each other very well. When the 100s was announced, there were some generous 'upgrade' trade in options available & I seriously did consider trading in the 50r & Sony gear & migrating fully to 100s, which has better AF vs the 50r. However, when I analysed it, for my needs/wants, consolidating what I already had down to a 100s would probably have been a down-grade in some areas & would have cost me alot more (I only have one native GF lens - I adapt old manual focus lenses to the GFX alot, but if consolidating, I'd have wanted a couple more native GF lenses for the times I want/need AF - & this bumped up the cost considerably, ~doubled it). I'm still very happy & content with my line up of kit. Sure the 100s is significantly better than the 50r in many ways, but I feel very well served already with the 50r + Sony A7R/S combo.
oh yeah, and despite the age of the sensor in the 50r, the files from it are still a joy to work with.

Great video as usual with your commentary and explanations. Perhaps with the gf 35-70mm and the planned 20-35mm release this year you could replace your 23mm and gf32-64mm.

Beautiful images, Adam. If I were you, I'd choose the GFX 100s for the weight savings but keep the 32-64 mm as it is a slightly wider lens. The wide end is equivalent to 25mm. I have the 32-64 and consider it the best zoom I've ever used. I have a GFX 50R and am considering a 100S but am concerned about the files sizes eating my hard drives and possibly needing a new computer as well. My 2018 Dell is fine with the files from the 50R but I expect it would struggle with the larger files from the 100S.

Adam, Always enjoy your videos! Thanks. I'm shooting with a gfx50s and they'd have to pry the angled viewfinder from my cold dead hands, it's wonderful. I use the 23mm, 32-64 and the 100-200 and like them. I like intimate stuff and isolating things in the landscape and recently started using a canon 100-400 with a fringer adapter, so far it's worked perfectly, no hiccups. It covers the fuji sensor and bonus, the adapter has an aperture ring!

I also have the GFX 100 and I am going to keep it around for the extra pound, I like the 2 batteries .... I have the 23mm, 32-64mm, 45-100mm, 110mm, 100-200mm, 250mm and the 1/4 tele as well the 110mm and 250 stay at home in my bag for my kind of landscapes ,,,not sure if I should sell them but they nice to have when I do fell like using them. I just bought a star tracker to try out too............... Sounds Like your going on a Great adventure with a Bunch of Great Guy's cant wait to see it.

Beautiful images in a really dreamy location. Very very nice work. No doubt the 100s is the place to be for landscape. Lens choice is always tricky and also depends on location. On a recent trip to the Dolomites I ended up shooting mostly with the 100-200 and (less) with the 45-100. My current kit for landscape is 30, 45-100 and 100-200. I use to bring the 23 but it is heavy (and wonderful) but often too wide. The 30 works in 70% of the circumstances and one can always pano a shot with it. The new wide zoom coming up sounds ver interesting. The 35-70 works very well but a bit restricted in range.

Wonderful video, very calming and inspiring. The image tell a wonderful story of colour and life. I have been debating for months to switch over to the Fuji. The hardest thought for me its the financial loss of my older gear. I had to subscribe just because of the inspiration. Thanks!!
Great video Adam, absolutely beautiful conditions & trees. I absolutely love my GFX100S, the files are impeccable. You mention that the images would be the same as a newer DSLR when printed, I guess that’s true to a certain extent (if both prints are the same size A2 for example). But the physical image size from the GFX100S is much larger than the physical image size from full frame DSLR. So they prints can go much larger. Again, beautiful camera & beautiful conditions you had here. Loved all the images, fifth one was my favourite 👍🏻

Very interesting that you find the Fuji files easier to work with than the Nikon files. I found exactly the same thing with Sony A1 files compared to Olympus files. The difference in dynamic range and noise between the two systems is significant. I always bracketed the Olympus landscapes and I don't think I'll need to do that very often with the Sony. Total file space on the computer drives may, therefore, actually be less for the Sony projects than for the Olympus. My post processing time is also reduced some. But the weight and size difference is also significant. Thanks for another excellent video.

If I was made of money I'd have the 100s with a few lenses but since I'm just your average Joe I'm happy with my Nikon Z7, 14-30mm f4s, 24-70mm f4s and 70-300mm.
I find with the GFX 100s when using the aspect ratio settings, you can't just shoot a RAW image, you also have to have a (approx.) 30mb jpg image as well. I hope a firmware update eliminates that issue...

I liked the shoot interspersed with tlak of the camera. Even though I will never come close to owning a really high-end camera, I do find the talk very interesting. Very nice photos btw.
Those two cameras at 13:00 are more $ than all of my camera gear combined haha. Great images for sure out of the GFX 100 models, but for that much I’ll just stitch two images from my 5Dsr to get the 100mp 👍

Really nice to get a photo centric perspective on a camera from a pro-landscape photographer, since so many reviews of hybrid cameras are giving over much of their review to the video centric features they often miss the use ability aspects of the camera. The opinion on the view finder for instance - I so appreciated that also being a spectacles wearer and also using rarely using the back screen. And seeing it demonstrated and discussing on the reliability - these are the niche things overlooked by other bloggers. Enjoy your next trip! By the way, where is Kevin these days - didn’t see his face like it just consumed the dregs of a shower trap for a while…maybe he blew himself up with one of his farts!
For landscapers, studio-shooters, etc who are considering these 102mp models but can't afford, the 50s mkii is a great camera... also no iso noise, IBIS, great colors, plenty of resolution, and easy files to work with.

I use a 50S and as much as I'd like to move up to the 100 I simply don't need it and even simpler, I can't afford it 🤣 Love the 7 trees at the end and the Arbutus are bonnie.

Great video, happy to see the fog stuck around. I’m interested in your thoughts on the 30/3.5. I own it and think it’s quite exceptional, as well as being light and compact. An alternative to the 32-64 could be the 30/3.5 and 50/3.5 which together are still less weight.
Amazing pictures! I wonder why no one ever posts the specs of the camera/lens they use to film all of their videos. We see 90% video in almost every camera review, but have no clue what it is. This isn’t your fault alone literally everyone reviewing photographic cameras with video footage neglects to post the information. It’s beyond me haha
Thank you Adam for another great and thoughtful video! Question for you. I see that you often use f/16 and your subjects are tack sharp left to right in pano, and the background is beautifully out of focus - do you have to focus stack left to right or is the plain of focus at f/16 enough?

I have found it hard to get rid of the full-fat 100 despite the dreadful buttons and dials. The tilting, much higher resolution evf is a much better instrument than the unit shoved in the 100 to get it to market and supposedly keep price down. I don't get it. With the original 50 we had the choice whether to spend the silly money on the title adapter. I did. I never regretted it. It carried over to the 100. Henceforth, it looks like we will not have a choice. It is quirky but it is hugely advantageous in the field and in bright light situations.
Great video, Im always so confused about Fuji I want a medium format for print quality but the lenses are a turn down i love 16mm and I love 400 on a Full frame.

Good points. i am looking at the 100(S) with a 45-100mm for portrait work and its a good range for other things. what are you thoughts on that lens ?
It is an excellent lens! If you are not put off b it’s weight, it is so versatile!
I think the thing to keep in mind with the lens focal lengths on the GFX....& converting them into full frame/35mm equivalents, is that you are only really considering the angle of view....not the 'perspective' or balance of relative size of objects near to far with different focal lengths.
For example, in the 35mm film days, I always gravitated toward 24mm focal length. For a period I had a 17-35mm L 2.8 & I found the 17mm end was great for its field of view when in tight spots, BUT, it overly emphasised objects close to the camera & distant vistas almost disappeared....where as, I found this 'balance' of relative sizes of near, mid & far ground objects more pleasing with the 24mm....but I missed the field of view or 'width' I could fit in with the 24mm vs the 17mm.
Now when I put my 24mm (24 TSEii) on my GFX, I get the 'best of both worlds' by virtue of the physically larger sensor - I get close to the field of view (width) that I got with the 17mm on 35mm film/FF sensor, AND I maintain the relative size of objects from near, mid & foreground that I personally prefer & appreciate with the 24mm focal length.
Its a subtle but important thing to keep in mind when considering the equivalents on 35mm film / FF sensors....(& I know Adam will know this already, but felt it worth stressing).

Very pertinent video for me as I have just upgraded to the 100S from the 50S mk1 and am considering my lens options for landscape. Currently have the 32-64 and 100-200. Currently thinking of acquiring the 20-35 when it comes out to complete the trilogy. The question I am mulling over is whether to stick with the wonderful 32-64 or broaden the range by with the lighter 35-70 or more so with the heavier 45-100. A first world problem.
Been thinking about getting the 45-100 too: too big! Certainly a great and versatile lens, but you don’t need it all ….. covered. I also have the 45mm, which is really good and as the 23mm is a bit on the expensive and heavy side, I am also waiting on the wide angle zoom. But that’s just me. Take the time and have a look at what 2-3 ranges you’re mostly shooting your best images, maybe this may help your decision.
Well it’s certainly good that you’re getting a lot of enjoyment from recent "investments". You said it though…. in the end you probably can’t tell the difference. This just shows us it really is about the experience of doing photography that makes happy. Antarctic sounds exciting. No RAIN!
Thanks for the video. It was great getting your perspective as a GFX user. I actually rented the 100S last week to try out in comparison to my X-T4. As former DSLR owner the size of it is appealing. And I did love the pano crop feature. I do have one question, how does the video features compare to the X-T4? I meant to try it myself but ran out of time with the camera.
Apparently Capture One handles the Fuji files on the XT series better than Adobe; is this also true with the GFX series?

So beautiful these pictures! Is that polished looking orange the bark on these trees? Or do they loose their bark whilst they get bigger and the parts under the bark emerge like it is at Plane trees?
I was considering buying this GFX100 used because I like the folding viewfinder. But it ended up being a Shen Hao 617. I'm not ready for digital medium format yet because even used the body and lenses are very expensive...

Does the GFX 100s show a histogram on the rear screen? That seems like a great feature I’ve seen you use on the GFX 100. (In my opinion, go for the lighter body with the wider lens. Maybe Fujifilm would give you a deal on a trade-in - and repair the faulty angle finder. Or you could hold the 100s for ransom! 😙)
All Fujifilm mirrorless cameras show histograms both on the rear screen and in the electronic viewfinder, which is very useful to nail exposure and protect highlights in bright sunlight

10-24, 16-55, 55-200, 70-300 are known as excellent landscape zooms. Some people shoot with primes, where 14, 18 F1.4, 35 F1.4 when stopped down to F5.6, 90 F2 excel.

Diffraction limit on the 100 megapixel GFX ?
I have the GFX 50s ii and the 35-70 lens. I was aware that the depth of field is considerably different with medium format cameras so have been focus stacking at f11-16. My question is how much focus-stacking do you do with your wonderful images. Thanks Adam.

As for the loss of the tilting viewfinder the Hoodman H32MB may be a partial solution, see ua-cam.com/video/R6cXXQbq9W8/v-deo.html at 10m50s by a photographer who uses a GFX100 and 100s. The extreme edges of the field of view aren't that clear though and the rubber eye guard doesn't seem to be interchangeable. With the zoom not being wider than 35mm for landscapes a possible option is to stitch 2 images together using cylindrical projection to avoid stretched edges/corners. I'm waiting for more details on the 20-35mm zoom. Hope all goes well with the Antarctica trip.

I love medium format. At this size of sensor depth of field is not a huge problem. I often stop down to f16 which usually does the trick
