Vhagar was 180 years old and was already said to be ‘falling apart’ with pieces coming off of her, she’d only move when needed. Most of her time was spent sleeping. But hey, who knows 🤷♂️

Did Balerion really died of old age? i mean, he had a moving live and even got wounded on his left side when on adventure with Aerea ( Who came back burning up from the inside out) in the east. And the reason why Visaerys only flew him a few circles around the city and then stored him again in the dragonpit ( witch is funny, cuz balerion was the biggest ever and fitted in the Pit, bur Vhagar was to big?!? ). Drogon is not abnormally big. He is big in comparison to Rheygal and Viseryon because those too were held in captivity while Drogon roamed freely and devoured whatever he wished.

And its noted the dragons that spent the least time locked up underground in captivity grew the largest once at their fullest. There are wild dragons unclaimed. The biggest dragon and most dangerous being the wild dragon called “cannibal”. Who almost single handed led to the dragon extinction until GoT came along.
