Yeah, if you don't need too, I wouldn't recommend it. Took me a few months to gather all the parts/ tools and do the work. It's a massive project, more work than I thought. These UA-cam videos make it look easy eh? 😂 What's wrong with your car?

The thimble on the adjusting barrel makes the pressure the same as opposed to using your feel to think you are using the same force easch time. If the mic is calibrated (zeroed) on the check standard using the ratcheting thimble then the checks of components using the same ratcheting thimble will be taken consistently and accurately. Different mics may have small differences in torque from the thimble but if that torque, and thus pressure that may load and deflect the mic, is that used for calibration and for the measurements accuracy is assured.

My experience so far: between oil changes i never had to put oil in either my old BMW 320d e91 (M47D20), my former e92 Coupe (N53B30) and my current M140i (B58). I always drive them warm and on the Autobahn i prefer to go top speed when possible. So Oil has never been an issue for me.

You are lucky to not have any oil issues. The N52B30s did not have the oil consumption issues. M47d20 I think only had timing chain failures. But I'm not a diesel guy (yet) 😂

@@buildanddrive I do have oil issues... with my Alfa Romeo Twin Spark, she certainly consumes a lot of oil. As for the Diesel, it's a great commuter car. I went through city and country roads keeping the consumption down from 5.5 to 6L diesel/100km.

I know a man who jumped out of car twice in Autobahn and he survived so everybody you can do the same.

I have a VW New beetle that actually improved on oil consumption slightly, using engine flush and Anticarbon. It wasn't serviced for 20,000KM, so I reckon the Oil control rings were clogged. I will keep flushing and trying to clean it out.
How was the power of your N52?

Power is awesome. Back to 100%. Good throttle response and after I fixed the disa valves, it had great torque again between 2k and 4k rpm.

great video! but to clarify: does the engine in the video is the one in your bmw or the one you've bougth on ebay?

Do you know if there is a new part number for the new piston design?
I'm rebuilding my n52 right now, and ordered new pistons with rings from ebay, hoping the oil holes in these piston are already ''updated''.
Thanks for all the video's, very informative.

Is it the same problem for the same car engine N53?? (523i LCI 2007). ??? I’m burning 1 liter of oil every 2k kms, she have 300 000kms old. When engine is cold, i’ve white smoked, engine’s lamp ON and engine idle strange..

This is normal. Smoke is probably water vapor and 1L/2000kms is pretty good imo
