Found a beautiful big monitor by a dumpster and everything works on it but I want to use it as a tv, I was wondering what the connection with the audio cord is called? I’d like to connect my Apple TV to the monitor and just use an sound bar with the monitor
I picked the adapters up on Amazon. I think one of them's not available anymore but there are others on there. It just depends what it is that you're trying to connect to the monitor. If it's an old VGA monitor, and you want to attach a Roku to it, you could get an adapter that is an HDMI female to VGA male for anywhere between 8 and $15. I think I was also using an old version of Chromecast which has the HDMI cable built into it. Hopefully that helps a little bit.
Hello, great video, can you please inform on how exactly to hook up an Atari 2600 system to play games on a monitor without any computer. Just the Atari system and the monitor? Thank you
I can't get my Roku TV to work as a computer monitor and I don't get why. I bought an end-to-end VGA cable, plugged one end into the computer tower and the other into a HDMI converter, and plugged the converter into an HDMI port on the TV but the TV isn't reading a signal. What am I doing wrong?
Hi, could you please tell me what all is needed in your first set up that you explained to connect a pc monitor for Roku, etc. I have a spare monitor that I'd like to put to use. Thanks so much. ( Please be very specific as to what is needed. ) Also, can you provide me a link for the speaker you are using? Thank you
+boscoitalics of course, it depends how you're going to connect your DVD player. If your DVD Player supports HDMI, then you would need an HDMI to VGA adapter. If your monitor does not have built-in speakers, then you will obviously need a pair of speakers. I would look on Amazon for HDMI to VGA adapters.
I use a Bluetooth speaker light bulb. Then, I turn off the light and listen to music or other on my phone or tablet (the latter I use for Pluto TV or Netflix or UA-cam. Be sure to get a speaker light bulb that works with a phone app. Note, I only get mono sound, but it is plenty loud over treadmill noise. And, they are cheap.
You're welcome. Let me know if it works for you. If I have a chance, I'll hook my Xbox up to my 16 by 900 monitor. I have to go to Arizona for the weekend so I may not have time.
With any monitor, you need to be able to output the video of whatever device you're connecting to the monitor. So the monitor needs some sort of HDMI, VGA, component, composite input are two name most common ones. For example, if you have an Xboxwith an HDMI out and a monitor with a VGA in, you need to convert that signal with an adapter. Hopefully that makes sense.most of the time it works but there may be situations where a monitor does not support that.
DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN USE YOUR SMARTPHONE AS A ROKU REMOTE & HAVE THE SOUND GO THROUGH THE PHONE AND THEN THROUGH THE BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES 🎧 AS LONG AS YOUR PHONE IS ON THE SAME WI-FI THIS WAY ITS CHEAPER/ EASIER TO USE I TYPE IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE OF MY BAD EYESIGHT
Muhammad Ariff it depends a little bit on what you are trying to connect to your monitor? For example, if you have a Roku, and it has an HDMI output, and your monitor has a VGA input, then you need an HDMI to VGA adapter. Maybe something like this? www.amazon.com/dp/B00SW9JI9A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_lIyJAbFV9D549 just make sure the ends of the adapter will plug in to your components properly. Hopefully that helps.

I do not understand what anyone would go to hdmi to vga when the monitor has a dvi port even if you got the cable free I would still buy the adapter to go to dvi dvi has a better picture
I am using a 32" asus monitor for my pc and then TV at night, mainly because I don't have space to put my TV as well. I hooked up a roku to my monitor so I don't need to leave my pc running but I am having an issue with using a remote for the sound. I bought a cheap soundbar with a remote but its crap. Anyone know of an app on a phone or an adapter to add an ir blaster to the monitor? I also looked at a roku stream bar but it has some mixed reviews.
I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the dish box. You may check the settings in that box. It could be the cable you're using isn't compatible. I just don't know. Maybe try a different monitor or try to connect a different set-top box to that monitor using the same cable. You need to narrow down whether it's the cable, the monitor or the box that's giving you the problem. The only way to do that that I am aware of, is to tried different parts or maybe try to do a search on the internet for it. If you haven't already tried that. Good luck. Keep us posted if you solve the problem.

I use this with a VGA cable, and HDMI cable, and a Roku. I would probably just use a cheap pair of computer desktop speakers with this. They will plug into this adapter.VicTsing HDMI to VGA with Audio Adapter, Gold-Plated 1080P Active HDMI to VGA Adapter Video Converter Male to Female with Micro USB and 3.5mm Audio Port Cable for PC/Laptop/DVD www.amazon.com/dp/B00YC7U0NE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_UU38AbGHF5X3K. Hopefully that works for you. There are probably other ways to accomplish this, this just happens to be the way that I did it.
will this speaker accept a 3.5mm jack? I see in your video you plugged jack into speaker ( in the first set up you showed us, not the set up for your treadmill ) so sorry for the questions. You're very kind.
Any videos on how to use a monitor as a TV to watch local channels?
this is very outdated i recomend just using a moniter with a hdmi witch goes into it and works normally like the setup into a tv
Most full hd qhd 4k monitors HDMI ports.
Perfect answer. Perfect demonstration! Thanks

You could have simple used a DVI-D to HDMI cable for your first setup since that monitor supports DVI-D
+Juan Asandro I agree, that would have been simpler.
Juan Asandro i used that cable but now i have no sound
Nice video! Would you mind sharing the list of tools you had to buy?
I'll try to remember this weekend to list some links down in the description below.

Can you just connect a phone from that hdmi as well?
I don't know. I don't know if many phones that support HDMI out.

can you turn a monitor to just watch dvds? I was going to have 2 monitors but i didnt like it so i want to use it just for movies in my bedroom.

Do you think it would work from an Xbox One to a monitor that does not have 1080p resolution? e.g. my Samsung SyncMaster BX2031 (max res: 1600x900)
I would think it would. It would really be based upon whether the Xbox one can do that resolution and I think it can.
Thanks for your help!

Does turning a gaming monitor to a tv damage the gaming feature of the tv such as the 2ms response time.
No
Will this work on headrest monitors with just usb for cars and trucks

Does a 17"inch monitor work with a VGA to HDMI cabble?.
I would think so.
The display size wouldn't change anything what you need to focus on is the ports, converters, and monitor GPU (if it accepts the signal or not)

Hello I used HDMI TO VGA cable to connect to a Lenovo monitor with a set top box(dish) but no output (pictures or videos) can you solve that

All that you have to do then is change your resolution on your external device. Hope this helps.
