- It was a SUPER fun first day ice fishing for lake trout on Athapapuskow Lake in northern Manitoba! I seriously can't say enough good things about Bakers Narrows Lodge, the guides, staff, amenities - they all go completely above and beyond!

that's insane getting your rod back!!! that's only happened twice for me but open water. Nice!!!
Couldn't believe it. 4 hours later and the thing ends up swimming back past us and somehow the barbless hook hadn't even fallen out of the fish, but yet it does the second the laker flops on top of the ice. Can't make it up! Thanks for watching!!

I did this my first day out this year, video on my channel, but with a master rainbow trout. Drilled like 5 holes and snagged my rod back and caught the fish.

most laker days are a bit of a shit show. adds to the fun if it doesn't ruin it.
i ice anchor a bucket to the ground and have a short leash to throw on if i have to run help someone land a fish.
my buddy loses at least a cpl rods a year i feel worse for the fish stuck to it than the angler.
That's so crazy. I guess I'm not used to fish that can actually pull gear down the hole hahaha. Lakers definitely make me a hot mess 😅 but you're right it adds to the fun of it all! Thanks for watching!

You didn't have your reels freeze on those set lines outside..?being that cold.
Half of them had drag issues in the cold. The Okumas worked the best tho because they have a cold-weather grease called "Polar-X Reel Grease" that works down to negative 50-something. I didn't realize until now that you can buy a tube of that cold-weather grease separate, so might have to do that for my non-Okumas next time. Thanks for watching!
