    We also use Bay Diesel for our yearly maintenance. They also installed our Koni shocks, and from recommendations from a friend we had them install MCU'S. ( Motion Control Units). They made a world of difference in the side to side sway going into parking lots and when tractor trailer trucks pass you , it's now barely noticeable. We highly recommend the MCU'S. They baffle the air rushing out of your airbags when changing surface levels. We love your videos. Keep them coming!

    When we were in Red Bay last January we had Bay Diesel do a four wheel alignment, center our Safe-T-Plus, replace our chassis batteries, and install Koni shocks all around. They did a great job. Love the Konis; way less sway now. They also did the recall on those rubber grommets that secure the inner rear wheel valve stems, but I had the passenger side fail on a drive in August. Phil had to secure his rubber grommets with RTV after he got new tires. He put out a video on it, so that’s what I did, and it worked.

      The Koni's are awesome! I am going to have Bay Diesel align ours next time...I think there is some play that can be taken out too. Thanks for the comment and watching.

    I watched this video while we had one of these in our freightliner dealership. I can 100% tell you the prices you paid were more than fair. everything you had done was more than reasonable. Early on the transmission service. Doesn't need to be done until 300kmiles or 5 years. Also comment with your last 6 of your vin and I can tell you if you have any recalls on the transmission. We had a few years where the harnesses inside the transmissions needed to be changed. Always remember, no such thing as to much maintenance.

      I polish the wheels myself using "white diamond". You can buy it at walmart or online. It takes a little effort the first time. I do them every few months. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    New to Tiffen Allegro Red 36qsa. I purchased a 2011 and was severely shocked at how poorly it handled. My first drive home was a horror show. The rig got pushed around by passing trucks and cross winds. The sway was unreal and porposing (not sure I spelled it correctly) was extreme. I was a Freightliner sales rep for 27 years and I always believed our products were top notch. This one not so much. Went to a frame and alignment shop I had used for decades in my home town. Chics made some recommendations. SafeTplus for the front ,Koni shocks all around, an air restriction valve for the air bags and last but not least an anti sway bar for the rear axle. Now I can actually sit back and relax while I drive with ONE HAND. My rig handles like a dream and I love driving her. What a HUGE difference in handling performance. I would think Freightliner would include these items to make their rig as safe as possible....I guess not. As a former Freightliner sales rep I'm a bit dissapointed....after the company was purchased by Mercedes Benz things really changed not always for the better I guess.

      Thanks for watching and the recommendations. I have about 4-5" of lash in the steering and I'm hoping Bay Diesel can remove this during my alignment scheduled next month. The Koni shocks made a difference and it already has Safe T Plus installed from original owner, but it just doesn't feel right. I don't think I should fight it as much as I do and while I've gotten use to it, I want it to driver the way it should. Again I'm hoping the guys at Bay Diesel can improve the handling. I definitely will talk about the sway bar and air restriction valve with them. By the way, how much did the anti-sway bar cost? Thanks again for the recommendations!

    • @markdemedeiros3239
      @markdemedeiros3239 Рік тому +2

      The air bag restriction valves...there are four of them...one for each air bag were a bit pricey.....The rear sway bar if my memory is any good was appr. 800 dollars. In all I spent 3k parts and labor. They also had to rebush the front sway bar as it was totally worn out and not functioning at all. Oh, and that 3k included the Steer safe Safety plus as well. It was a lot of cash to lay out but if I had to make that choice again today I WOULD..It made something I hated driving into some thing I actually love to drive.

    I love how ALL Motorhome owners always nickel & dime about service and upgrades. Meanwhile they dropped $100,000 - $500,000+ on the unit. I guess rich people have problems too.🤑💰💸

    Be careful with BD, we used to use them but no longer. We went in for a check engine light they installed a nox sensor for 1k come to find out 2 weeks later CEL back on, this time took to Cummins and they advised there was an active SCR recall for replacement and has been out for about two years prior BD missed this because they are not Cummins certified. Cummins was amazed because the nox sensor BD replaced is useless with new SCR. So 1k wasted. This was our second issue with them and our last. Worse part is if we didn’t go to Cummins we may have missed the recall which ends this year and would have had to pay a little over 6k for our SCR replacement.

    And shocks too! Our 2007 40ft Allegro bus never swayed and neither does our 2018 40IH Phaeton. In a wind storm going across Arizona maybe but not otherwise. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer here. Everything they did doesn’t hurt even though some you didn’t need. Total price wasn’t to bad actually but I do all my own work. Saves a bunch of money on these rigs. I enjoy doing it unless I just don’t feel like it then I pay 😊

    • @To.Be.Determined
      @To.Be.Determined  Рік тому

      Thanks so much for watching. Yes, the swaying was pretty bad and the new shocks made a bigger difference than I anticipated. I agree, they didn't need to do all the work they did. I recently had it serviced at a truck shop in NC and spoke to the owner about what needed to be changed and when. I only had what needed to be done this time and will carefully look at what needs to be done in the future. I appreciate the comment.

    I was surprised to see all the weight while on the lift being on the outer rear wheels only. Always been under the idea that was not good on the axle?

    • @To.Be.Determined
      @To.Be.Determined  2 роки тому

      I don't disagree and I feel the weight would be better distributed across both tires. I guess it's not a big deal for a short period of time. I didn't see it flexing much and confident they know more than I do. Thanks for the comment and watching our videos.

      @@To.Be.Determined It’s definitely interesting because the lift obviously is built for large trucks or motorhomes, so maybe what we’re all led to believe may not be the case but would seem logical. Did you by chance ask them about that?

    You have to look at it this way. Our RVs are basically the same as a 18 wheeler with the same transmission. They’re use to hauling 80+K pounds. 38000 is nothing for the Allison transmission. Ours is a 2018, 48K miles all highway cruising. If you start and run it every 30 days and even drive it is best you really don’t have to mess with the transmission for like 100K filter maybe but fluid no. As for the dryer ok I get it but again if you drive it like We do at least 6000K a year that moisture gets cooked out as well.

      @@To.Be.Determined We are fellow FTers and have been since 2012 in a Phaeton. I tend to listen to the manufacturer who made the part (in this case the transmission). Allison recommends a fluid and filter(s) change either when the Prognostics advise it, or at 5 years. I think you could have stretched the change another year (I think you said the Red is a 2018?), but changing it after 4 years certainly won't hurt anything.
