Nice talk. Roger Voisin and Armando Ghitalla helped revive interest in Baroque trumpet in the late 1950s. I still have all the original Kapp recordings of Voisin and Ghitalla titled "Music for Trumpet and Orchestra." As a high school student, I got to play Brahms 1st with the BSO and Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (GBYSO). We did two concerts, each with 1/2 BSO and 1/2 GBYSO. I sat between Ghitalla and Andre Comb in Symphony Hall. Voisin gave concerts in the Boston area in churches with organ accompaniment. I heard him play the Brandenburg #2 one time. What a thrill. I went to Oberlin where I studied with Adelstein who had an incredibly big sound, especially compared to Voisin.
Tom Rolfs is one of the best orchestral trumpet players of all times. This interview was needed!
