I just finished transcribing Bernstein's solo off this recording. His playing is always so melodic! Here's a link if anyone is interested: westheobald.com/peter-bernstein-transcription-all-the-things-you-are/
I don't know why are people saying that Larry Coryell's solo is bad. I'm Transcribing it and it have very good lines... I'm pretty sure that everyone can learn a lot from that solo. You can hear the bebop influence in there, you can hear how to play "strangers" tensions in those II-V-I. I wish I have that musicianship and resourses to make my improvisations sound like that. Bernstein's solo is also good. Two different sounds, phrasing and resourses there. Anyone who want to learn improvisation can take the good aspects from BOTH solos. Just my humble opinion.
Coryell is one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of the last 50 years. The stupid comments you are referring to are from musical illiterates. There are plenty of great guitarists that I do not enjoy. But I still respect their talent an dedication.
Hmm, I did not really enjoy Mr Bernsteins solo or comping very much on this piece. However I do respect his great abilities and musicianship. As for Mr Coryell I think I will take more seriously someone like Vic Juris when he calls Coryell "Maestro" and "one of the great improvisers of the 20th century". You dont like someones playing great. No need to be disrespectful. Particularily whwn that person has been a major influece on modern guitar.
Beautiful playing❤
Jim Hall was the master of the understatement.
Beautiful! Jim Hall has always been one of my favorite guitarist. Ron and his fellows are great! Thanks from Italy
Magnífico!!!
