That's called staggering, it's not a bad beatmix. Staggering gives the sound a more echoing effect by adding a slight delay rather than a flanging effect which is more tightly beatmatched with even less delay. You're not the only one who has mentioned that but there are more ways than one to make sound effects other than using the mixers effects or buttons on the software interface. That's the way we did it with vinyl and it still works with CD & MP3. DJ RuDe Keep Spinnin'!!
I'm using two laptops. One for gigging and the other for practice and everything else. Google Toshiba Qosmio X305 Q708 and X305 Q705. My USB hub is a seven port powered hub. There is no lag or latency whatsoever. Just make sure it's powered and a high speed USB 2.0. The Serato unit should be plugged direct, everything else is OK in the hub. DJ RuDe Keep Spinnin'!!
Hello Paul I'm a aspiring DJ, barely got my feet in the water, and I have to say thank you very much. Though I still need to some how acquire all this equipment, once I do I'll use what you just showed us a few years ago. I really enjoy your channel and have subscribed thank you very much!
Using Virtual DJ with the CDJ-400s is exactly the same as using CDs or Vinyl. The music doesn't play through the laptop top, it plays through the CDJ-400s so that you can connect them to a mixer which is connected to your amp & speaker system. The laptop is only used to control the software and provide the music, it then passes through the CDJs like as if it were CDs... DJ RuDe Keep Spinnin'!!
I am not experiencing ANY latency issues at all. I set up my system at a gig and it's good to go everytime. What are the specs on your computer and are you using a legit or cracked version of VDJ? This makes a huge difference DJ RuDe
No, the signal processors are not needed at all for your RMX, or mixer or anything. I only use them to add reverbs and harmonies to vocals in karaoke. Your EQ processes the output sound frequencies, that way you can contour the spectrum of sound for the room you're plying in. I have a dbx DriveRack auto-EQ with a RTA mic that does this automatically. Don't worry about DSPs, they are superfluous and not needed for your application. DJ RuDe
Yes, they are still assigned through the "F" keys. Virtual DJ 6.++ is also fully Midi-mappable meaning you can assign any keyboard keys and buttons on your player to do what you want them to do. DJ RuDe
@RudeDog66 You are wrong, if you want to use Serato Scratch Live with the CDJ-400/850/900/2000 you will still need the Serato box but you will not need the time code disc. It doesn't control Serato via midi but though HID which is something that Pioneer created. You will still need the Serato box to make Serato active and to transfer the audio to your mixer.
Yes, they will work with any non-USB CD players or turntables, but you have to have a timecode interface box and timecode CDs. The Numark Virtual Vinyl package or Serato SL1 package is what you will need in order to use your CDJ-1000s. The Virtual Vinyl package comes with Virtual DJ (Cue, same thing) at no extra charge. DJ RuDe
hey bud great video, finally about to buy such setup,......................quick question whats the specs on your laptop to see if i have the right specs to run it on mine, also i realize you are running the cdj's through a USb hub??? how is that working for you?? is it flawless, no lag??? thanks again
Yes, it 'spretty pricey but the other one is what I use for gigging and it's a dual core and it's less than $1500 USD. You can find a laptop for running VDJ that's dual core 3 gigs of ram and has a decent video card for about $799 USD and probably less. I get no interference or any other problems running hard drives through my powered USB 2.0 hub and I have three externals connected among other things! I have 3.5 terabytes of hd space! DJ RuDe Keep Spinnin'!!
I would get the DJM-700 of the 2 due to the effects and extra channels. The difference between the Serato SL1 and SL3 is is 24 bit sound over 16 bit, USB 2.0 over 1.1 and the ability to record or add a third deck as well as the SP-6 sample player. DJ RuDe
hey thanks for this video its great lots of good info! but i had a good question for you...i was lookin to purchase two cdj 400's and wasnt sure what mixer i should get with it djm 400 or djm 700? which one is better? also is the serato sl1 same as serato sl3 what is the diff? will they both work the same as shown in the video?? if you could please let me know thanks so much!
I agree as a dj I have to use my own custom set-up, it's like riding someone else's skateboard in a contest, and the trucks are too loose, you're gonna skate like shit. same goes for mixing, I love my cdj 400's I LOVE EM
I'm not sure I understand your question. I mix using the controllers not with a keyboard and mouse. I'm an old vinyl user from the 80's so I actually know how to use turntables and CDJs. The software is a just a more convenient way to play these days. No crates of vinyl, not books of CDs, just hard drives. I still beatmatch using the sliders on the CDJs, not the Sync button, I scratch and do other tricks with the CDJs, so yes, I actually use the them, not the mouse & keyboard. DJ RuDe
i had the older version of vdj and it didnt work with my players... after installing new vdj everything works fine.. i wasnt asking about your beatmatching ;) are you satisfied with vdj and cdj 400? i think that latency is big and i use my cds and usb sticks... but it would be cool to come to a gig and just open up my laptop and i got everything ready to go :) cheers
I use Beatport, Promo Only, DMC Commercial, and other local DJ pools. I do use iTunes in the rare occasion when the other ones don't have a song I'm looking for. DJ RuDe
Rude, i have decided to go with the system finally, like i said upgrading from hercules rmx. I currently dj at two clubs weekly in my city,..............so need to get more professional system and use hercules for video mostly! I have one last question to ask though,............ On this setup is it still possible to trigger your samples from the F-Keys on your laptop??? i mean do they still when they are assigned to them?????
@SingJiya Depends on your idea of heavy?! I personally love it and feel like a lot is missing when I'm using someone else's stuff. I custom built and designed it to my exact standards and desires. DJ RuDe
What type of CDJs are they? If they are 800s or 1000s you will need a timecode soundcard and timecode CDs. A Serato SL1 or Numark Virtual Vinyl set up contains everything you need. DJ RuDe
@Samsunglee93 No, you need a software controller like my CDJ-400s not a DJM-400 which is a mixer. You do not need an SSL box for VDJ when using CDJ-400, 350, 900 & 2000s...
@MikeyBreaks We were not talking about Serato Scratch Live, this video is about Virtual DJ. Some people still don't understand that CDJ-400/350/900/2000s don't need a sound card with VDJ because these CDJs have their own sound card built in. However I did a video about using these CDJs with Serato Scratch Live and in the video I explain that you must have a Serato box like my SL3. That video is here on my channel if you look through my list of videos. DJ RuDe Keep Spinnin'!!
No, only CDJ-400s, 900s & 2000s will work because they are USB/MIDI/HID controllers. CDJ-800 & 1000s do not have USB control. You can however use a timecode solution to make it work
@ef6854 With CDJ-800s there is no USB so you will need a timecode solution such as Numark's Virtual Vinyl or a Serato SL-1, these have a USB interface that controls the software
wa'tup Dj Rude, just wanted to ask you, where do you get all of your music from, Itunes? where would someone go to buy music, is there a certain music for dj website? good looking out.
hey! so, by connecting the USB cables from the Pioneer into your laptop, your laptop will recognize the Pioneer or would I need to install something by Pioneer so it can recognize it? I will be using Traktor Pro 2!
I responded to your questions as a reply to your PM. VDJ 6+ needs no assignments for CDJ-400s, it is automatically detected and is plug and play. Follow the soundcard settings I outlined in the PM to make sure your sound settings are correct and you are good to go! DJ RuDe
there`s one thing i don`t get . how is the mixer connected with the laptop ? is it also with a usb just like the cdjs. or the fact that you connect the cdjs with the mixer(by those analog audio cables) means that the mixer is also connected . And if so will the actions that you made on your mixer effect on virtual dj (on the screen) thanks
wikid man,...........I am a sold Virtual DJ user aswell,..............I have used serato before,...............but time-codes were very unstable so prefer to stay away from it!! THanks again, .................the system specs are like mine so i should be good!
We have connected cdj 400 with Vdj but it has nothing to do with computer sound card right? The sound that goes out to the mixer uses Cdj soundcard am I right?
can u have a cd loaded in deck a and b while the software is workin just in the event the computer crashes and quickly switching over to the cd to avoid a loss of sound?
@djlowtek You don't have to do anything except plug the CDJ-400 into your computer, push the USB button and VDJ automatically finds it, it's all covered
can u have a cd loaded in deck a and b while the software is workin just in the event the computer crashes and quickly switching over to the cd to avoid a loss of sound

@mikhailcalamba2012 About $3300 USD plus tax for just the software, the Pioneer CDJ-400's and the Pioneer DJM-800. The laptop cost another $1300 plus tax and of course the speakers and other audio equipment cost a lot more...

You will need to use a timecode solution such as a Serato box & time code CDs or virtual Vinyl since the C314 is not a USB MIDI controller.
What type of CDJs are they? If they are 800s or 1000s you will need a timecode soundcard and timecode CDs. A Serato SL1 or Numark Virtual Vinyl set up contains everything you need.
DJ RuDe
good video - very similar to mine showing 2 x CDJ-400's and a DJM-800 - only I'm showing how to connect up to Traktor Pro :D
Yes, that's correct but you will need the timecode CDs as well as the interface box, such as a Serato SL1 or Numark Virtual Vinyl...
DJ RuDe
@Samsunglee93 No, you need a software controller like my CDJ-400s not a DJM-400 which is a mixer. You do not need an SSL box for VDJ when using CDJ-400, 350, 900 & 2000s...

Buen video, good video, a favoritos
You can pick up an M-Audio MidiSport Uno for about $39 US at the Guitar Center. What do you need it for? I'm using mine for my DJM-800
DJ RuDe
It does work with Traktor as well as Serato.
DJ RuDe
nice video, but i have i cuestion, where can i conect my hard drive ''music box'' since my lop top has only 2 conetion for USV cable. thanks!
im just startin djing and im gettin my first setup for christmas..im gettin cdj 400s and djm 400 is it good setup for beginner

what size coffin case did you use with this set up?? I know Odyssey has different sizes I'm just curious which one you went with
please the spanish traduction please!!!! you're a master dude
man the ram indicator is going crazy on your vdj toshiba set up what the hell was it doing in the background?

hey Rude... Digital Wiz here
have a macbook pro
2 Pioneer CDJ850 -
just watched your video realize the cdjs carry soundcards..
connected everything like you said
however a small problem... virtualdj seems to read be reading the same sound card.. not seeing any difference or number in the different options for 2 soundcard (Pioneer 850) shown for both no difference so i assume it is the same.. sound comes only from on channel too... any ideas how i can get both soundcards to be picked up?
heey man, what TYPE of case have you got in this vid and what brand/type is the laptop standart?
software can enable the DJ to do more as an artist as opposed to spending precious time doing things associated with other formats.
With Virtual DJ you only need one hard drive for both CDJ-400s to share. Without software then you would need two because they don't link.
DJ RuDe
i have a cuestion where can i connect my hard drive '' music box'' since my lap top has only 2 connection for USV cable. thanks
@ringdingdol Then you will need a Virtual Vinyl or Serato box with timecode CDs for it to work.
DJ RuDe
Keep Spinnin'!!
Digital requires a different plug whereas standard RCA plugs work in the CD/Line jack
@mikhailcalamba2012 About $3300 USD plus tax for just the software, the Pioneer CDJ-400's and the Pioneer DJM-800. The laptop cost another $1300 plus tax and of course the speakers and other audio equipment cost a lot more...
@porvenirsa1 Gracias por tu comentario , te lo agradezco !
Hey i have a question . When normaly playing my cdj's400 the second time i press play the music stops and i can go through the song and listen to every beat . But when i connect them to VDJ it's like my jogwheel is always on vinyl and i don't know what to change in VDJ . I want to change it so i can finds the first drum in the song with search button (also the search button searches +40 in pc mode and +1 in normal mode so how can i make it +1 in pc mode ( please help me )
Will the CDJ 400 display track information and so on on the display or does it just say "PC MODE" when in Virtual DJ?
So you don't need a external sound card like in Serato?
DJCity has some awesome tracks on it, or hypem
@hercules1924 Which one? Many have asked about the songs. Look through the comments to find the answers. Thank you
@terminatorjcpwns Your welcome!!

So if I had a timecode CD in my CDJ that wasn't usb compatible, it'd be the same in a sense of hooking up any turntable with a time coded vinyl?
were can u but usb cables do ubut them or they come with the cdj
If you want to play CDs you have to put your CDJ-400s in CD mode. If that doesn't work it's because you don't have your 400s connected to an external amp & speakers. CDs will not play through the computer!
DJ RuDe
Could you use the effect of your mixer to?
Except am not running a Quad core,..just a dual core with 4 gigs ram and 360 Hard drive....................you shelled out 4 grand for that laptop???...........on another note,..........did you run your external hard drive through the hub without interference???
Would this still work if i had serato sl3 plugged in aswell ??
@Lesinotto Yes, you can use either one but the setup is a different process. I will do a video using my Mac some day...
Would this work with timecoded turntables. The turntables does have a usb port to go into my comnputer so?
last night at my friend's bar in orlando i was using the cdj350s, and i was only getting sound out of one channel. also i the crossfader was not being recognize in vdj7 pro. what is the best way to set up this system. we are using the djm 800, and two cdj 350s. i used the usb cables on two of my usb ports. now they both were recognize in the program, but like i said only sound in one channel? anything i can do for next time to prevent this?
