  • The Color Computer 2 is on the bench again today for episode 2 in my #SepTandy series.
We'll look at the progress that's been made so far and then move it along with the CPU upgrade to the Hitachi 68C09EP. Next, we'll upgrade the RAM from 16k to 64k. And finally, we'll test our results.
Based on how long it took me to record this, I honestly expected this video to be much longer, so I cut it short without doing the last mod I wanted to get done today. We'll save that for next time.
    Hope you enjoy the video!
    Thank you for watching

Excellent video! Never call yourself bad names because of a mistake as we all make them. But you found it and fixed it. Great job. Thanks for sharing

I think it was deserved. Not for the mistake itself, but because I had literally just said not to do the thing I did. Thank you, though, and thanks for watching!

Great progress on your Color Computer 2 restoration. Hopefully the weather plays nice this weekend and you can retrobright your other CoCo 2 case.

Very nice, am amazed the coco has a much smaller board footprint than the dragon for almost the same machine

It's a revised board for the 2. The original Coco had a much larger footprint. Thanks for watching!

It turns out on the Coco 1 the entire RF modulator is an off-the-shelf Radio Shack part #UM 1285-8.

Yes it is and the 1372 lived on the motherboard instead of in the RF can.

@@YARC-1981 probably a sneaky engineer "decreasing" the motherboard chip count by hiding it in the modulator.🤬 Not cool.

Could have been a lot worse without the sockets! Imagine the giant sigh after realizing you'd soldered the 4164 in the wrong way around.

I can imagine trying to shoot myself through the head with the moo gun if I did that. 😆

Thankfully I don't remember Tandy ever putting the RAM's in the Coco line as unsocketed. The CPU and some other chips, unfortunately, were soldered directly in on later Coco 2's (and all Coco 3's).
