    Deutsche Grammophon is one of the most renowned and iconic record labels in the music industry. Founded in 1898 in Hanover, Germany, the label has a long and illustrious history in classical music recording and distribution. It has played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting the works of some of the world's greatest classical composers and performers.
    The company's name, "Deutsche Grammophon," translates to "German Gramophone" in English, reflecting its origins in the early days of recorded music. Initially, the label focused on producing gramophone records, which were an innovative technology at the time, allowing music to be stored and replayed for a wider audience.
    Throughout its history, Deutsche Grammophon has been associated with numerous musical legends, including conductors like Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Claudio Abbado, as well as exceptional performers like pianists Vladimir Horowitz and Martha Argerich, violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, and cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, among others.
    The label has been a pioneer in classical music recording technology and formats. It embraced advancements in audio quality, from vinyl records to compact discs (CDs) and later digital streaming platforms. Deutsche Grammophon has consistently maintained a high standard of audio fidelity, ensuring that listeners could experience the full richness and nuance of classical compositions.
    Over the years, Deutsche Grammophon has released countless landmark recordings that have become classics in their own right. Their extensive catalog includes masterpieces from composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, and many others. These recordings have not only captured the essence of classical music but have also introduced it to a wider global audience.
    Beyond classical music, Deutsche Grammophon has occasionally ventured into other genres, collaborating with popular artists and exploring crossover projects. However, it has always remained committed to its core mission of promoting classical music and preserving the legacy of great musicians.
    The iconic yellow label with the "DG" logo has become synonymous with excellence in classical recordings. For many music enthusiasts, purchasing a Deutsche Grammophon album is a mark of quality and a guarantee of exceptional performances and sound engineering.
    In recent years, with the rise of digital music platforms and changing consumer habits, Deutsche Grammophon has adapted to the digital age while maintaining its commitment to musical excellence. The label continues to sign and promote talented young artists, ensuring that the tradition of classical music thrives in the contemporary world.
    In conclusion, Deutsche Grammophon stands as a beacon of classical music excellence and heritage. Its dedication to preserving the works of legendary composers and showcasing the talent of exceptional performers has cemented its place as one of the most prestigious and respected labels in the history of recorded music.

    I'm a fan 'n collector o' Archiv Produktion recordings, an offshoot o' the Deutsche Grammophon label which features vintage instrumentation. I recently purchased their 50-CD limited edition box set o' analogue stereo recordings 1959-1981 which includes a wide variety classical masterpieces. A marvelous collection.

    Very nice review. Imo Decca and RCA had superior engineering at least from "58 through mid-70's. Deutsche mono recordings '51 - "60 are superb!

    Just came across your channel today and really enjoyed your video. I haven't bought vinyl since about 1985, but I do own 6,700+ CDs and about 400 or so are von Karajan. So I was pleased to hear you speak so well of him as he is my favorite as well.
    I visit Germany every few years (just returned from 5 weeks there) and in 2017, I was in Berlin. Our host, who was born and raised in Berlin was driving us around showing us where she grew up. As we went through one intersection, I looked to my right and there was a traffic sign for Dahlem, home of Jesus Christus Kirche, where, as you probably know, von Karajan did most of his recording with the Berliner Philharmonic. To this day, I kick myself for not asking my host to take us to the church. I know it's rarely open, but I would have liked to have stood outside it.
    Anyway, thanks again for a wonderful video.

    Hey Nadine, nice video, my favorite out of your finds was the Dennis Coffee album. You found a nice minty original, that is awesome. I found a used copy a few months ago at my local shop here in NYC. My cover is a little used but the vinyl plays really good. That album is a great funky dance album, all his early albums are a must have. I got my Gil Scott-Heron - Pieces Of A Man album, it’s pretty good but I would not call this mastering a triple A recording. I do think this is probably the best you will get for this album. The sound stage is very straight forward, not much separation between the speakers. For a 45 speed, I was expecting a little more. It’s pressed by GZ, very quite pressing. BGP records. UK pressing.

    I am more or DGG CD person but think I will seek out some of these having heard the mainly good reviews. However, for those just getting into classical and DGG specifically I highly recommend searching out Joost van der Net's history of mastering and cutting at DGG. It is extremely informative; especially on why DGG pressings often lack the character and dynamic range of other labels. Hence why so few DGG LPs make the audiophile lists. His comments about the quality of the cuts of the grooved URHEBER pressings from the perod from 1969-72 seems to be borne out by my experience. The string sound is richer and fuller. Plus the vinyl quality is better. They are also cheaper compared to the somewhat dry sounding (in my opinion) but more collectible Tulip/Alle Herstellers.

    Thanks for the video Nadine. Just to let you know to most classical lovers the biggest, hottest “The Original Source” release, out of 7 by now, is the 2 Brahms piano concertos by Gilels/Jochum/Berliner. World authority level of interpretation and performance of two of the greatest piano concertos ever written. Like the Verdi Requiem you reviewed, only 2000 copies made. Please don’t miss it.

      End of side 3-playing is great, sound is TERRIBLE. Unfortunately I can’t get replacement because sold out. And I have received two copies now of the Verdi and they have all the same serious flaws. For me this series is severely compromised in pressing quality. The good parts are great, but two out of 7 titles have serious issues

      Ich war total überrascht die Qualität hat mich umgehauen. Gerade Karajan war auf die Reinheit seiner Aufnahmen bedacht. Daher waren die damals schon sehr sehr gut. Das sie das so toppen können, Respekt.

  • @Konspiration100
    @Konspiration100 Рік тому +1

    Noch ein Punkt, der Hype für Vinyl macht das Musikhörenn einfach teuer, viele können sich halt die teilweise 3-4 Mal so teuren LPs und die tolle Lp Waschanlage nicht leisten. Als ich anfing Vinyl zu kaufen war ich damals froh mir eine Schallplatte pro Monat kaufen zu können, für mehr reichte das Taschengeld nicht und es hat einige Zeit gedauert bis mein eMusikbibliothek auch nur im Entferntesten mit meinen Hörgewohnheiten schritthalten konnte. Das mag heute besser seinb, aber als Bürgergeldemppföänger Student oder Niedriglohnjobber ist Vinyl im Grunde genommen keine Alternative zur günstigeren Cds oder Streaming.

    Tolles Video, vielen Dank. Kurze Frage ich habe in der Sammlung meines Vaters die gleiche Aufnahme von 1972 von Karajan gefunden, allerdings mit einem neuen Release als „Deutsche Grammophon Präsent“. Hast Du eine Idee wann die Serie rauskam und was die Intention von der Deutschen Grammophon war? Wurden dafür die Originalbänder noch einmal neu auf eine Masterfolie geschnitten?

    • @Souldisco
      @Souldisco  11 місяців тому +1

      Hallo Reiner, vielen Dank für dein tolles Feedback, kann es sein das du folgende LP hast: Kelly's And Deutsche Grammophon Present Herbert Von Karajan And The Berlin Philharmonic . Dabei handelt es sich um keine Serie von DG, sondern um eine Promo Aktion für Kelly's Stereo Mart (ein kanadisches Platten- und Stereo-Geschäft im Franchise-Betrieb, aktiv von 1972 bis 1995). Ohne den deathwax zu kennen, kann ich mir gut vorstellen, dass die gleichen stamper wie 1972 verwendet wurden.

    Erfrischend neutral. Meiner Beobachtung und Interpretation hat die Säkularisierung im Westen dazu geführt das viele Menschen scheinbar eine Ersatzreligion suchen und haben sie z.B. im Thema Hifi gefunden. Wie oft höre ich mittlerweile Glaubenskreuzritter für den einzig akzeptablen analogen Klang. Jedem kann doch gefallen was ihm gefällt, aber es ist nun mal so das Digital im Zweifelsfall Analog überlegen ist rein von den technischen Daten, das ist Fakt und nicht Glaube. Es gibt natürlich tolle Analogaufnahmen und miese digitale aber dem Digitalen grundsätzlich die gleiche Qualität abzusprechen ist einfach falsch. Wenn ich eine High Res Aufnahme von z.B. ECM höre bedaure ich vielleicht dass es nicht mehr der wunderbare Bebop der 60er als Musik it seinen damaligen Grössen derMusik ist, aber eine gute ECM Aufnahme stellt meiner Meinung nach so ziemlich jede Rudi van Gerldern Analogaufnahme in den Schatten.
