  • In W. T. Block's latest book, "Chronicles of a Historian's Pen," there is a chapter titled "Two Elderly Women" who found a new niche in old age.
Laura Ingalls Wilder spent much of her life in a covered wagon, moving with family to Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri and South Dakota. Wilder was age 65 when in 1932 her daughter Rose suggested that Laura write her memoirs for her descendants. Over the next eleven years, those "memoirs" were enlarged until they numbered eight books, now translated into more than 40 languages. Her books were the basis of the television series "Little House on the Prairie."
