Hi GEM. First time watching and looking forward to more. I’ve never quite seen Reddy picking at leftover scraps like that before. She must have been hungry and or missed the feeder.
A trifle but it wasn't Bucky in the beginning but Larry. Also a very high ranking male in the troop as a son of Lancy (head of the second highest ranking family) and brother to Lowry who I think was the alpha male in the troop at the time this was filmed. Today he and Bucky share that responsibility. 🤓🇸🇪
Thanks for sharing your observations, GEM!🐒 As always, much appreciate to learn more about their lives and behaviour! I must say though, I have been thinking that monkeys showing hair loss is (mostly) bc of excessive grooming, esp if high ranking!? But maybe it is due to age or hormonal issues! 🇸🇪
Overgrooming - totally possible. Age and hormones - yes. As mid to late stages of pregnancy are associated with more hairs in the shedding phase, grooming (or overgrooming/excessive grooming? - assume you mean have more grooming) could increase the removal of hairs in this stage & hair thinning & bald patches become obvious. Add in the seasonal change of shedding the winter coat, and many of the females look somewhat shabby with obvious hair loss for a few months after their infants are born, until new growth fills in. Combined with other causes of hair loss, temporary or permanent, such as age (Bossy is older), she is pregnant, parity (at least 15 children), it's summer, nutritional (avoid the white bread & cakes, forage more), or conditions we don't know about including autoimmune disorders, skin conditions such as bacterial or parasitic infections, allergens, hair pulling by self (not likely due to location on back) or others (not observed, for Bossy - may be limited as usually higher rank pull hair of lower ranking). The question of the interaction of rank and amount of time receiving grooming, it is possible that more grooming could accelerate the removal of hairs in the shedding process, and thus make hair loss appear greater. With higher rank spending more time grooming, it may appear that hair loss is greater with higher rank.
@taraleemoore, your comment was rude, uncalled for and wrong. This hostess knows her stuff and I enjoy her videos just as much as Mr. A M’s (Mr. AM to you!) 🤨
Thank you for this informative video!❤
Thoroughly enjoyed this GEM. Thank you.
Siempre me pregunto por sus alopecias. Incluso en monas adultas jovenes se les nota. ❤
Really enjoy your videos and the education about their habits. Would love to see more videos.
